Important chief of the Sioux after Red Clouds War, refused to live on reservation, along with Crazy horse he connived about 7000 indians to leave the reservation
December 1875
Sioux ordered back to reservation - they didn't obey
June 1876
The attack began but US army were defeated at the Battle of Little Bighorn
Autumn 1876
US army attacked bands of the Sioux, reducing their numbers - Sioux began to run out of food and water

US army prepared an attack to force them back onto their reservation

a military leader who fought in the great sioux war. His troop were first to arrive at little Bighorn. he ignored advice and chose to attack the indians camp without waiting for reinforcements - his men were severely outnumbered and all killed in Battle of Little Bighorn
Battle of wounded knew
indians carried out Ghost Dance in reservation to ask spirits for help. The army moved in to arrest ring leaders - sitting bull as shot by a Sioux policeman. December 28 - scuffle broke out and the seventh cavalry opened fire killing 146 indians - marked the end of the indians resistance
4 July 1876
news of the defeat reached the East and 2500 new soldiers were sent West and two new forts were built
1875
over 1000 miners travelled there and broke Second Fort Laramie Treaty - government tried to buy back hills from the indians they refused the offer
Crazy Horse
warrior and leader of the Sioux who refused to return to the reservation, he attacked one of the column sent to return the Sioux to their reservation, led his warriors in the Battle of Little Bighorn
