The HP's team goals are to provide a single point of contact for providers and sales teams in order to expedite the hospital privilege process. They are responsible for pre-filling the HP application and follow up on missing documents and verifications.

In the United States, many states require CME for medical professionals to maintain their licenses

(FEDERATION OF STATE MEDICAL BOARDS) The Federation of State Medical Boards of the United States is a national non-profit organization that represents the 70 state medical and osteopathic boards of the United States and its territories and co-sponsors the United States Medical Licensing Examination.

NALTO

(NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LOCUM TENENS ORGANIZATIONS) National Association of Locum Tenens Organizations. NALTO's purpose is to provide a forum for companies providing locum tenens services to set industry standards and ethical guidelines which will provide the foundation of relationships between NALTO members and their clients.

PGY

(POST GRADUATE YEAR) Post-graduate year, refers to a North American numerical scheme denoting the progress of post-graduate dental, medicine, or pharmacy residents in their residency program. It is used to classify responsibility in most training programs and to determine salary. The grade of the resident is denoted with a numeral after the PGY designation, such as PGY-3 for a third year resident. PGY1 is generally referred to as the internship year.

(QUALITY ASSURANCE TEAM - WEATHERBY) The Quality Assurance team ensures that all of our provider's files are complete, accurate and meet our credentialing standards on an ongoing basis. Our vigorous quality assurance practices include evaluations from our clients and providers after each assignment, to ensure the highest level of quality and superior patient care.

SPECIALTY

A chosen discipline within the medical field. Typically used for providers and nurses.

SUB-SPECIALTY

A defined specialty within a given discipline that usually requires additional fellowship training. For example, Cardiology is a sub-specialty of Internal Medicine. The fellowship requires one or more years of training after graduating from a residency program.

FIFTH PATHWAY

A pathway that is an approved avenue to residency training at a U.S. hospital, which completes a medical student's education. Those entering this program leave the international medical school early and complete a final year of medical training in the United States, as of 2009 the Fifth Pathway has been discontinued and no longer supports eligibility to enter ACGMEaccredited graduate medical programs. The AMA will keep track of students who received a certificate of completing the program prior to its discontinuation.

FELLOWSHIP

A period of training, usually 1-3 years, which occurs after completion of a general or primary residency. Its goal is to qualify a provider as a sub specialist in an area of medical practice such as cardiology, hand surgery, etc.

BOARD CERTIFIED

A provider who has passed an examination prepared by a group of peers in his or her specialty. When the exam is passed, it certifies that the provider is qualified by that specialty to hold the designation of Diplomat. There are MD and DO Certifications. The exam can consist of both oral and written parts. Many hospitals require certification within a certain number of years to maintain admitting privileges.

DOUBLE BOARDED

A provider who has passed two examinations in either two distinct specialties or in one specialty and a sub-specialty.

ACTIVE LISTENING

A way of listening and responding to another person that improves mutual understanding.

CONSULTATIVE SELLING

Consultative Selling frequently works hand-in-hand with value-added selling, in which a salesperson presents customer-specific benefits related to their product or service. The consultative approach, when properly executed, yields a quantity of information about the prospect's wants and needs - which makes it easy for the salesperson to take the next step and present the perfect benefits for those wants and needs. The biggest advantage to the consultative selling approach is that it helps you to build rapport quickly while simultaneously positioning you as a resource for your prospects.

CREDENTIALING

Credentialing is the administrative process for validating the qualifications of professionals and assessing their background. Many health care institutions and provider networks conduct their own credentialing, generally through a credentialing committee. It may include granting and review of specific clinical privileges. The process is an objective evaluation of a person's current licensure, training or experience, competence, and ability to provide particular services or perform particular procedures.

DO

DOCTOR OF OSTEOPATHY-D.O.s practice a "whole person" approach to medicine. Instead of just treating specific symptoms or illnesses, they regard your body as an integrated whole. Osteopathic providers focus on preventive health care. D.O.'s have additional training in the musculoskeletal system and focus more on the whole person, as well as on preventive care. Some DOs also use osteopathic manipulative treatment, or OMT. This is a technique in which the doctor uses his or her hands to help diagnose the injury or illness. Manipulations may then be used to improve circulation and nervous system functioning, to help the body heal itself.

LICENSING TEAM (WEATHERBY)

If a provider is not licensed in a particular state, the Licensing team leverages existing relationships with the state licensing boards to expedite the licensing process prior to the assignment start date.

International Medical Graduate

J-1 VISA

Issued to foreign providers who are admitted to residency programs. Upon completion of residency and/or fellowship training, they must obtain an opportunity in a "J-1 area" and practice there for two years or more or return home. Opportunities for J-1's through recruiting agencies are rare.

MSS

Medical Staffing Services are coordinators who verify credentials and provide monitoring services for physicians and allied health professionals.

Nurse Practitioner (NP)

Nurse with Advance degree, certified for a special area or age of patient care, works in a variety of healthcare settings or independent practices to make health assessments and deliver primary care

Residency

OB/GYN residencies are 4 years. Each year the resident is allowed increasing responsibility and is allowed to attempt more difficult procedures and surgeries. Becoming a skilled surgeon takes practice, therefore residents often work long hours to learn surgery and care for extremely sick patients. Both general surgery and OB/GYN are known as the hardest residencies in terms of workload, due in part to the large number of patients, and also because of the surgical cases

ALLIED HEALTH

Pertaining to professional health-care providers who are not physicians, esp. medical assistants, technicians, and therapists, but not nurses. Also known as Allied Professionals.

INTERNAL CREDENTIALING TEAM (WEATHERBY)

Provider credentialing is the process of gathering information regarding a provider's qualifications for appointment to a medical staff. CHG credentialing determines if all qualifications are met in order for CHG to provide malpractice coverage. Credentialing involves verification/validation of information received from the physician as well as from others (people and institutions) with whom the physician has had contact

GRANDFATHERED

Refers to a healthcare professional who does not meet the current requirements of law or regulation but is excluded from meeting the new requirements because he/she has been practicing in a specialty or field prior to the establishment of the current requirements.

H1B VISA

The H-1B is a non-immigrant visa in the United States. It allows U.S. employers to temporarily employ foreign workers in specialty occupations. If a foreign worker in H-1B status quits or is dismissed from the sponsoring employer, the worker must either apply for and be granted a change of status to another non-immigrant status, find another employer (subject to application for adjustment of status and/or change of visa), or leave the United States. The regulations define a "specialty occupation". H-1B work-authorization is strictly limited to employment by the sponsoring employer. The duration of stay is three years, extendable to six.

INTERNSHIP

The old term used to describe the first year of postgraduate training following graduation from medical school. Providers participating in this training were formerly called interns but are now known as Postgraduate Year 1 (PGY-1) residents and the year is called the PGY-1 year. It is usually taken under the sponsorship of a single clinical department.

BOARD ELIGIBLE

The status of a provider who completed an approved residency training program; one that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

LOCUM TENENS

The term for part-time temporary coverage provided by a provider for another provider at a hospital or other health care provider.

Physician Assistant (PA)

Works under the supervision of physicians; takes medical histories, performs physcial exams, orders basic tests, makes preliminary diagnosis, treats minor injuries, prescribes treatments.
