A quaker who wanted to establish a colony where all quakers would be safe, he called that colony Pennsylvania were he promised that people of all faiths would be treated equally.
Indentured Servants
Colonists who received free passage to North America in exchange for working without pay for about 5- 7 years.
George II
King who liked Oglethorpes idea because the Georgia colony would help keep the Spanish from moving north out of Florida.

One of the founders of Massachusetts (1620) who lead the pilgrams to that colony

Separatists who traveled for religious reasons.
New England Colonies
The New England region included the colonies of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. * settlers came to seek religous freedom * farming was diffucult (long winters and rocky wilderness) *the forests and the sea provided useful resources to fish, work on small farms, lumbering, fishing, shipbuilding, and trade.
Southern Colonies
The five Southern Colonies were Mary-land, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. *many wetlands and river that meged w/ sea *soil was good to grow cash crops * wealthy colonist built large plantations where enslaved africans and indentured servants worked on.
Middle Colonies
The four Middle Colonies were New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. * variety of landscape *The people who settled the Middle Colonies represented many cultures and religions. *Lumbering, shipbuilding, and other occupations
Thomas Hooker
a Puritan clergyman who didn't always agree with the laws and leadership in Massachusetts so he his family and about 100 other people set out west and formed the community of hartford that later joined together to form Conneticut.
Quakers
a Society of Friends who believed in a simple lifestyle and in treating all people equally.
Anne Hutchinson
a colonist who was kicked out of Massachusetts for preaching against the Puritans. She and her family followed Williams and established a settlement called Portsmouth. that eventually join together to form the colony rhode island.
Sabbath
a day that required everyone to attend church on Sundays that forbade people to work or play.
English Bill of Rights
a law or agreement that said the power to make laws and impose taxes belonged to the people's elected representatives in Parliament and to no one else.

a young minister who believed that all people should be able to worship in any way they chose so he fled south were the indians took care of him and then he bought land from them and established a settlement he called Providence that was welcomed people with different religious beliefs.

James Oglethorpe
inspired wealthy Englishmen to give money to help establish a colony (georgia) where the poor could build better lives instead of going to jail.
