For each benefit period a Medicare Part A beneficiary will receive coverage for

90 days of hospital care However, there is a beginning deductible and Medicare only fully covers the first 60 days.

Meals, supplies, medical services, drugs taken as an impatient, a semi-private room, etc.

Medicare part A covers

inpatient care. So, hospital, skilled nursing facility, hospice, and home health care.

Medicare Part A coverage and cost-sharing amounts for SNF are:

• Day 1-20 are fully paid • Day 21-100 Medicare pays most, but there is a daily co-pay • Day 100+ Medicare pays nothing

Medicare Part A does NOT cover

• First 3 pints of blood • Private duty nursing • Non-medical services • Intermediate care • Custodial care

Medicare Part A covers skilled nursing facility care if:

• It is a Medicare-approved facility • The SNF stay begins immediately after a hospital stay of at least 3 days

Medicare Part A's home health care benefit does NOT cover:

• Meals, shopping, cleaning, or laundry

Medicare Part A's inpatient hospital coverage does NOT cover:

• Private duty nursing • The first 3 pints of blood • Room, phone, tv, or other non-medical services

Medicare Part A's home health care benefit covers:

• Visits (not round-the-clock care) by a home health aid to provide services such as part-time nursing care and physical, occupational, or speech therapy. • 80% of the cost of durable medical equipment such as hospital beds or wheelchairs
