Dura Mater (g)

A. A tough, translucent membrane that protects the brain and spinal cord. B. Outermost layer of the meninges.

Arachnoid Granulation (o)

A. The clusters of arachnoid villi, that project through the dura mater. B. Areas where CSF is dumped into venous blood.

Cerebrospinal Fluid (m)

Clear, watery fluid that circulates throughout the brain and spinal cord, that protects it from shock.

Subaponeurotic Connective Tissue (d)

Connective tissue below the Galea Aponeurotica.

Galea Aponeurotica (c)

Dense fibrous connective tissue that pulls the scalp forward and backward.

Bone (f)

Hard layer of material that makes up the skull.

Subcutaneous Connective Tissue (b)

Hypodermis, below skin of scalp.

Subarachnoind Space and Trabeculae (j)

Space between the pia mater and the arachnoid, includes spongy connective tissue elements.

Brain (l)

Telencephalon protected by the three layers of the meninges.

Longitudinal Fissure (n)

The deep groove that separates cerebral hemispheres.

Pia Mater (k)

The delicate innermost membrane enveloping the brain and spinal cord.

Falx Cerebri (r)

The double layer dura mater that is continuous all the way down the longitudinal fissure and separates the two cerebral hemispheres.

Meningeal Layer of Dura Mater (q)

The inner meningeal layer of the dura mater that is attached to the arachnoid membrane.

Arachnoid Membrane (i)

The middle layer of the three membranes (meninges) that surround the brain and spinal cord.

Periosteal Layer of Dura Mater (p)

The outer dura mater that is attached to the skull.
