Microsoft and Connected Consoles: Crash Course Games #10

8.5 gigabytes with the new format.
Halo: Combat Evolved
A 2001 military science fiction first-person shooter video game developed by Bungie and published by Microsoft Game Studios. Set in the twenty-sixth century, with the player assuming the role of the Master Chief, a cybernetically enhanced supersoldier. The Chief is accompanied by Cortana, an artificial intelligence. Players battle various aliens as they attempt to uncover the secrets of the eponymous Halo, a ring-shaped artificial world.
Fable
A role-playing video game where players control their character from a third person perspective. The main character, known as The Hero of Oakvale, can interact with people and objects as well as battle foes. The goal is to complete missions called quests that advance the game's plot, but it also features optional quests and allows players to pursue actions not directly tied to story completion.
Xbox
A video gaming brand created and owned by Microsoft. It was a faster, higher capacity machine than the previous consoles. But it was that integrated Ethernet port and the network that made it stand out.
Grand Theft Auto 3
It was one of the first 3D open worlds. You could follow the constructed missions, but you were also free to do whatever you wanted. You could just choose to steal cars and listen to the radio, or run away from the cops, beat up random citizens, just do whatever in the game. Don't do this stuff in real life.
PlayStation 2
The system itself was light-years ahead of its predecessor. It was a 128-bit system and stored its games on DVDs and CDs. It also had backwards compatibility, which meant that it could play the large library of existing software from the original console.
mini-DVD
a DVD disc which is 8 centimetres (3.15 in) in diameter
Nintendo DS
a dual-screen handheld game console
System Link
a form of offline multiplayer gaming on the Xbox and Xbox 360 gaming console over a LAN. A network switch and standard straight-through Ethernet cables may be used to link multiple consoles together, or two consoles can be connected directly.
US Professional League of Major League Gaming
a professional eSports organization that aims is to elevate computer and console game tournaments to viable competitive and spectator events
Super Smash Brothers Melee!
an unorthodox approach to the fighting game genre, with a counter that measures damage with increasing percentages, representing the knockback the character will experience, rather than a depleting health bar seen in most fighting games.
Fable now had real consequences, and the choices to help or hurt non-player characters in the game would be reflected in the on-screen character appearance,
and the non-player characters definitely remembered if you murdered someone in their town. They were less likely to help known thieves and killers.
Wii
introduced a remote controller, which can be used as a handheld pointing device and which detects movement in three dimensions.
Xbox Live
online multiplayer gaming and digital media delivery service created and operated by Microsoft
GameCube
the first Nintendo system to deliver its software on mini-DVDs rather than cartridges. It supported online gaming for a small number of games via the broadband or modem adapter and connects to the Game Boy Advance via the link cable, allowing players to access exclusive in-game features using the handheld as a second screen and controller.
