Based on the video "How blockchain is changing money and business", list three disadvantages of using intermediaries such as banks.

1. Banks are centralized institutions and as such they are vulnerable to hacking. It seems that almost every month or so a new story breaks about how millions of people had their sensitive data exposed through breaches-most often the breaches are related to banks or other financial institutions. 2. Banks are bloated and sometimes lack the responsiveness that customers want. For example, my financial institution allows me to take pictures of my checks to deposit into an account of my preference, however it takes 2-3 days to see the funds transferred afterwards. The feature is convenient, but it is not fast. 3. The third and biggest disadvantage (in my opinion) that I wanted to focus on was the use of personal data that banks use. Don mentioned in the video that this is especially concerning because it removes our own personal choice to decide how that data is being used.

What are the three advantages of blockchain mentioned in the article " How blockchain will change organizations?"

1. Blockchains are distributed, which means they are much more impervious to hacking attempts because they lack a centralized data location. 2. Blockchains are public and accessible. This creates an environment of transparency and accountability. 3. Blockchains boast very tough security measures through heavy-duty data encryption.

List three forms of data localization mentioned in the article "Governing digital trade".

1. Data localization maintained within a country's borders and does not transfer outside of the country. 2. Data localization that allows for transfer across borders but maintains a copy domestically. 3. Data localization that requires consent of the data provider before being transferred overseas.

An advantage mentioned in the article was that the mid-band mmWave frequencies are good for large area coverage, being less prone to interference with walls, buildings, or things of similar fashion. Advantages for higher mmWave frequencies included increased speed and data transfer capabilities. Disadvantages included significant costs and time consumption to implement the use of the technology. And while the mid-band mmWaves are good for large area coverage, the speed and data capacity are more limited than that of the higher frequencies. Conversely, the higher frequencies have lower ranges.

After reading the article " A matter of trust", list two ways that can improve consumers' trust towards AVs.

One method mentioned in the article was giving the autonomous vehicles a voice. This makes sense to me, as many pieces of technology feature audio representatives now-smart speakers and smart phones come right to my mind. This kind of response is what people are used to. The article stated that it made passengers feel more comfortable riding in the cars. Another way to build trust is to be more transparent about what/how the car was sensing or processing. To quote part of the article from a Bertram Malle, "Understanding why the vehicle is doing what it is doing will be a critical factor in trust and acceptance.". As a consumer of products, this makes sense to me. I am more likely to trust a product or service if I first understand its purpose or function. I am less-likely to trust something that I am unfamiliar with.

Peak of inflated expectation

In the Ted talk, the speaker states that although automation is designed to replace jobs, the number of jobs in US is higher in 2016 than 125 years ago. Give at least one explanation for this phenomenon.

The speaker used an example with bank tellers. The automatic teller machine (ATM) was created as a means to replicate and replace the basic duties and obligations that tellers initially had at that time. This led to teller jobs being cut, however, banks saw significant increases in savings through the ATM's that allowed for them to open more branches, and more branches led to more tellers. The increased amount of tellers in turn found new skills, or improved existing ones such as customer relations which ultimately allowed for opportunities to further expand the banking and finance industries. Simply put, advances in technology lead to advances in human opportunities.

According to article "Governing digital trade", productivity remains low in developed and many developing economies despite digital innovation. Name two reasons for this phenomenon.

There were multiple reasons described. One issue that I believe has a huge impact is the amount of time it takes to establish the infrastructure that allows countries to utilize the benefits of data sharing and digital trade in the first place. There are many logistical components to figure out in regards to this, even in developed economies. A second issue is a hesitation or lack of adapting to the uptake of digital technology. It can be very costly to re-structure long standing or traditional business practices to reflect more modern/technical approaches.
