Your client is receiving individual therapy from another therapist and wants couples counseling from you. When you ask the client to sign a release, she refuses, saying that you don't need to talk to her other therapist. How to do you proceed?

I would explain to the client that code of ethics regarding consultation with all other providers involved. I would insist on releasing even if the disclosure is limited, such as phone call with no documentation. If the client still resists signing the release, then I could withhold treatment, unless the client alleges ethical violations by the other therapist.

At your clinic, you are referred clients directly from child protection services. Their treatment, the nature and purpose of the proposed treatment, the probability of treatment success, the risks and benefits of treatment, treatment alternatives, and the prognosis if treatment is not given

A pregnant client is drinking alcohol on a daily basis. How should you handle this information in the best interest of the client?

Therapists are exempt in reporting alcohol and marijuana use if they are providing prenatal psychological support through pregnancy.
