1. How would you describe Napoleons Relationship with his parents?
Napoleon loved and respected his mother. He thought she was beautiful, strong willed and determined. He said all of his successes in life were because of here. His mother was pregnant 13 times and had 8 kids. He always resented his father for trying to be more French and fit in with Frances society. His father betrayed Corsica, to became an aristocrat and became a noble in the Palace of Versailles.

Napoleon was born in Corsica in 1769. He was one of 8 siblings in his family. His father assimilated to French

Napoleon's army, that didn't lose faith in him
Battle of Waterloo:
Napoleon's last battle, one of the most famous in history. 130,000 French, German, and English soldiers fought within a relatively small valley. The casualties were enormous with 50,00 killed and wounded.
Continental System:
Napoleon's plan in 1806 to blockade Britain by excluding her ships from ports on the mainland of Europe
4. What is nationalism and why is it such a powerful force?
Nationalism is the belief that one's country is the best country It is such a powerful force because people wanted to have their own countries with their own language, culture, ethnicity and religion. This made people fight against their leader and resulted in lots of wars.
Censorship:
News paper were told what they can write and what they couldn't. They were not allowed to criticize the Emperor in any way.
What are the lasting effects of the Napoleonic code?
One of Napoleon's great achievements was the Napoleonic code. It was a code of laws that brought together all of laws that French Society was governed by. It guaranteed the right of equality, the right to hold property, freedom of religion, and freedom to pursue work of one's choice. Many European countries still base their laws and courts on the code. They include the province of Quebec and Louisiana.

The 100 Days
After Napoleon's first exile of 10 months, he returned to Paris and began to rebuild his forces. He ruled France for approximately 100 days. During this time, he built a new army and fought in the Battle of Waterloo.

At the Congress of Vienna, the map of Europe was redrawn after the fall of Napoleon in 1814. Leaders and representatives from countries all over Europe came to the congress, hoping to claim land for their own country. After the congress all of the powers were all more or less "strong"

France's most important Caribbean slave colony was Haiti. Around 500,000 Haitians worked in the fields farming sugar, coffee, cocoa and cotton. Most of them died because the harsh work conditions. The Haitians were hopeful that the French revolution had changed the world and that would save them from their harsh work. When Napoleon came to power, he stated that he wanted to end slavery. Napoleon helped France with capturing many countries, but then Napoleon realized that Haiti was too valuable to lose so he reinstated the laws of slavery.

The Battle of Waterloo was considered such a significant battle because more than 130 00 soldiers were involved 50,000 of which were killed or wounded. The Battle of Waterloo marked the end of Napoleon's campaign/ reign over Europe.

The battle of Toulon greatly impacted Napoleon's reputation and was the start to his military career. At the time he was young and gained trust from the military.

The congress of Vienna affected Europe because during this time, the map of Europe was redrawn. France was allowed to retain her old borders but Britain took over many of its overseas colonies. Belgium and Holland were made into one kingdom and much of Italy was given back to Austria. Tsar Alexander promised that all the rulers of Europe would work to prevent war through "charity, peace, and love." Within a few years, Europe was once again torn by revolution.

What tactic did the Russians use to beat the French when they were invaded? Please explain how this strategy worked?
The name of the tactic is Scorched earth policy The Russians tactic was to draw in the french army. The french lived off the land they were invading so the Russians burnt their cities and crops so the French would have trouble surviving the winter. when Napoleon ordered his army for retreat the Russians used that to lure Napoleon's troops to far and attack them on either side. The long retreat from Moscow destroyed the Grande Armée.

The new government that replaced the rule of Robespierre. It was controlled by the middle class and gave most of the power to people with property. This group could vote and elect members to government. Napoleon Bonaparte stopped the directory and ruled after them as the Emperor of France.
