Nonprofit Characteristics
Charities, churches and temples, and most schools are nonprofit organizations Nonprofits must file incorporation documents with the state, and then apply for nonprofit status with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). This is called 501c3 status. The person who starts a nonprofit does not "own" it. The nonprofit is "owned" by the public at large, and it is run by a Board of Directors.
Donors
Donors also like to know they're money is going where they want so they like to see updates on the charity snd records as well.
What should they have
They should have a vision and mission statement just like regular businesses.
