The most popular and important weapon amongst the Vikings was the sword. Vikings swords were very ornate, sometimes gilded with precious metals. Many Vikings even named their swords. For example, King Magnus of Norway called his sword Leg-biter. So much emphasis was placed on swords because they were often a symbol of status. The more ornate and decorated the sword, the higher the Viking's status. To the Vikings, the swords were their most significant weapon.
