What are the three general types of plasma proteins?

1.)Serum albumin (non-specific protein carrier) 2.)Serum globulin (alpha carries bilirubin lipids steroids, beta carries iron and copper, gamma carries antibody molecules 3.)Fibrinogen (the inactive form of fibrin, which forms the framework of blood clots)

What is normal arterial pH?

7.35-7.45

What is colloid osmotic pressure?

AKA "Oncotic pressure"

RBC

Erythrocyte

Where are plasma proteins made?

In the liver. they contribute to colloid osmotic pressure. Especially Albumin

What is in interstitial fluid?

Interstitial fluid is similar to blood plasma. It has Water, salts, CO2, O2, hormones, sugars,

What causes edema?

Low oncotic pressure (low albumin) and High hydrostatic pressure

Osmotic pressure vs Oncotic pressure

Osmotic: refers to both proteins and solutes Oncotic: refers to mainly proteins

Hydrostatic pressure

The pressure in the capillaries that moves fluid from the capillaries to the interstitial fluid. It is greater at the artery side of the capillary.

Osmotic pressure or Oncotic pressure

The pressure that moves water into the capillaries due to the "high solute concentration" in the capillaries. It is greater at the vein side of the capillary.

What is hematology?

The study of blood

What determines hydrostatic pressure?

The volume of blood in the capillaries is proportional to hydrostatic pressure

How does hemoglobin aid in acid-base balance?

They carry CO2 waste from cells to the lungs for expiration

The combination of hydrostatic pressure and osmotic pressure...

creates the blood pressure within blood vessels
