Peritoneum
What is the greater omentum?
4 layers of peritoneum greater curvature of stomach/proximal part of duodenum then folds up and attaches to anterior surface of transverse colon. role in immunity can migrate to infected viscera
What are the organs of the foregut?
Bill & Peggy on LSD Biliary Apparatus Pancreas Esophagus Gallbladder Liver Stomach Duodenum 1 and 2
what are the organs of the hindgut?
Descending Rats Descending colon Rectum Anus Posterior 1/3 of Transverse Colon Sigmoid colon
What is the omentum?
Double layer of peritoneum from stomach/proximal part of the duodenum to other organs.
What is mesentary?
Double layer of visceral peritoneum, connects retroperitoneal organs to the posterior body wall)
What are the two kinds of omentum?
Greater omentum Lesser omentum
Peritoneal Ligaments
Hepatogastric=stomach to liver Hepatoduodenal=liver to small intestine Gastrophrenic=stomach to diaphragm Splenorenal Gastrosplenic Hepatoduodenal
What is visceral peritoneum?
Invaginates and covers most abdominal organs.
what are the organs of the midgut?
JAILED CAT Jejunum Appendix Ileum Duodenum 2,3,4 Cecum Ascending colon Transverse colon proximal 2/3
What can present as back pain?
Kidneys and Pancreas
What is parietal peritoneum?
Lines the internal surface of the abdominal wall.
What is the peritoneal cavity?
Potential space between parietal and visceral peritoneum
What are the two types of retroperitoneal organs?
Primary: organs develop and remain outside parietal peritoneum. (esophagus, rectum, kidneys) last three of SAD PUCKER Secondary: initially intraperitoneal suspended by mesentary and through course of embryogenesis they went outside peritoneum, mesentary fuse with posterior abdominal wall. Peritoneum only covers the anterior surface of these organs. (ascending and descending colon)
What are the retroperitoneal organs?
SAD PUCKER Suprarenal (adrenal) glands Aorta/Inferior Vena Cava Duodenum (except for duodenum cap) Pancreas Uterus Colon Kidneys Esophagus Rectum lower middle 1/3
What is the innervation of visceral peritoneum?
Same nerve supple as viscera it covers so pain here is poorly localized only sensitive to stretch and chemical irritation
What is visceral peritoneum derived from?
Splanchnic mesoderm
What is the peritoneum and what are its two layers?
Transparent membrane lines the abdominal cavity. It's two layers are: Parietal Peritoneum and Visceral Peritoneum.
What does it mean when an organ is a intraperitoneal organ?
covered completely by visceral peritoneum
What in the foregut, midgut, and hindgut are what?
foregut: epigastric pain midgut:umbilical pain hindgut:pubic region
what is the lesser omentum?
lesser curvature of stomach/proximal part of duodenum to liver, contains hepatogastric ligament and hepatoduodenal ligament.
What is "the mesentary"
mesentary of small intestine, all other mesentary named for organ it connects to: sigmoid mesocolons, mesoappendix, transverse mesocolons
What does it mean when an organ is a retroperitoneal organ?
only covered by peritoneum on the anterior surface
What is the innervation of the parietal peritoneum?
receives somatic nerve supply like the region of abdominal wall that it lines, so pain is well localized.
What is parietal peritoneum derived from?
somatic mesoderm
What organs are intraperitoneal organs?
stomach liver spleen duodenum cap jejunum ileum cecum appendix transverse colon sigmoid colon rectum (upper 1/3)
