The greatest common factor (GCF)

The largest factor that two or more numbers have in common. Set of numbers is the greatest number (other than 1) that each number in the set is divisible by without any remainders. For the numbers 4 and 8, the GCF is 4, since 4 goes into both 4 and 8.

Least common multiple (LCM)

The least number that is a common multiple of two or more numbers. Find the smallest common multiple of those numbers, which is the smallest number that can be divided by both numbers without a remainder. The LCM of 6 and 8 is 24, since 24 is the smallest n umber that is divisible by both 6 and 8. Write out all the multiples and look for the smallest number that is in both lists. 6: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30. 8: 8, 16, 24, 32. 24!
