miniature model (scale model)

A small-scale model constructed for use during the filming process to stage special effects sequences and complex backgrounds.

matte painter

These artists draw/paint entire sets or extend portions of an existing set.

call sheet

a document sent out to the cast and crew that outlines where they need to be for the following shoot day. It outlines the daily shooting schedule for the day, informs the cast and crew of weather conditions, parking regulations, and all other pertinent details.

the act of paying for the use of something (as an apartment or house or car)

the first assembly (assembly cut)

the editor's first cut of the entire movie; the editor strings together all of the usable footage and organizes it into a chronological sequence that corresponds with the film's script; no music or effects are included. It can begin forming during principal photography. It is followed by a rough cut, in which the director's notes are added and the film is trimmed down further.

rough cut (rough edit)

the first version of a movie after preliminary editing; may include unfinished visual effects and a temporary musical score; may not contain all of the finer details, such as finished CGI. They are sometimes used during focus group screenings.

principal photography

the phase of film production in which the scenes are shot; the actors are on set and the cameras are rolling

colour grading

the process of altering or enhancing colours for effect in post-production

call time

the time the cast and crew need to be on the set, ready to work. The crew usually has an earlier ... than the actors because they need to get everything ready for shooting.
