Psychology-Nervous System Resting Potential – Neuron is prepared to activate if sufficiently stimulated
What does the Midbrain do?
-Helps orient eye & body movements to stimuli -Works w/ pons to control sleep & arousal
3 major sections of the brain-
1.Hindbrain 2.Midbrain 3.Forebrain
What is in the forebrain?
Cerebral Cortex- -Involved in complex behaviors and mental processing Corpus Callosum- -Bundle of neurons that connect the right & left hemispheres Limbic system- Hippocampus, amygdala, thalamus, & hypothalamus
Medulla
Controls vital autonomic functions (heart rate, breathing & digestion)
Cerebellum
Coordinates muscle movement/balance; equilibrium
Reticular Formation
Network of finger-like neurons at the core of the medulla and pons that helps regulate attention and sleep
Resting Potential -
Neuron is prepared to activate if sufficiently stimulated
Pons
Relays info from higher brain regions to the cerebellum
Action Potential -
brief electro-chemical impulse by which info is sent along the axon of a neuron
Substantia Nigra-
involved in motor control and dopamine production
