-Helps orient eye & body movements to stimuli -Works w/ pons to control sleep & arousal

Cerebral Cortex- -Involved in complex behaviors and mental processing Corpus Callosum- -Bundle of neurons that connect the right & left hemispheres Limbic system- Hippocampus, amygdala, thalamus, & hypothalamus

Controls vital autonomic functions (heart rate, breathing & digestion)

Cerebellum

Coordinates muscle movement/balance; equilibrium

Reticular Formation

Network of finger-like neurons at the core of the medulla and pons that helps regulate attention and sleep

Resting Potential -

Neuron is prepared to activate if sufficiently stimulated

Pons

Relays info from higher brain regions to the cerebellum

Action Potential -

brief electro-chemical impulse by which info is sent along the axon of a neuron

Substantia Nigra-

involved in motor control and dopamine production
