Blue icebergs are very rare, and hard to spot. A blue iceberg forms when the tip of the iceberg is melted. Then the ice from under the water is overturned. The ice absorbed the blue color when it was under the water. Once it turned over, the blue ice is out in the open for everyone to see.

I think that the captain and crew were very cocky and didn't want to believe that the titanic could actually sink. After all they were working on the famous "unsinkable ship". So when the other ships warned them about an iceberg, they were so caught up in the ships fame, they didn't stop to consider that, maybe the titanic isn't perfect. I think another factor in it was, it was so dark, and they didn't have any good things to help them see better. Binoculars can only do so much when your in the dark. So when they finally got close enough to see the iceberg, it was too late to turn around.
