Procedure

A detailed series of steps to follow when doing an experiment

Constant

A feature that does not change

Control

A standard to compare with the results in an experiment

Variable

Part of the experiment that you can change. It is independent, dependent, or constant

Predict

Reasoning what will happen , estimating what will happen in the future

Research

The collecting of information on a particular subject or topic

Data

The evidence gathered through observations and experiments. The facts you gather during the experiment.

The first step in the scientific method is to define and identify problems

Result

The outcome or conclusion of an experiment

The process scientists use to solve problems. The step by step procedure to follow when doing an experiment

Experiment

The scientific procedure followed to make a discovery, test a hypothesis or demonstrate a known fact

Hypothesis

The statement predicting the result of a controlled scientific experiment

Science

The study of a natural world usually through experiments and verification of facts

Dependent variable

The variable that depends on the other variable. It is effected by the independent variable

Independent variable

The variable that the experimenter changes to test the dependent variable. The one you deliberately change

Bias

To cause favoritism or influence experimental results

Measure

To determine the extent, quantity or dimensions, determine how large an object is or how much mass it has.

Analyze

To examine carefully and in detail; to identify, making a conclusion based on what your results were

Observation

To examine something to gain information based on size, shape, color, mass. You can see touch or feel the object

Formulate

To form an idea as a result of an analysis of data

Classify

To group information into categories

Infer

To make a conclusion based on reasoning and observation

Identify

To name or recognize something based on its properties

Compare

To notice similarities

Examine

To observe carefully and in detail

Journal

To record observations, research and other information

Replicate

To repeat research study or experiment to help conform or verify the results of your experiment

Record

To write down in permanent form for later reference
