Section 11.3 Questions
2. B. What might be the result of an exceptionally hot spring on wing pigmentation in the western white butterfly?
It would cause the butterfly to be unable to fly because the heat would reach beyond the flying limit.
2. A. What is the relationship between the environment and phenotype?
Environmental conditions affect gene expression and influence genetically determined traits.
1. A. What does incomplete dominance mean? Give an example
Incomplete dominance means that an allele is neither dominant nor recessive. An example would be the alleles for the genes that decide the color trait of a Mirabilis plant.
1. B. Design an experiment to determine whether the pink flowers of petunia plants result from incomplete dominance
We should take a red petunia plant and a white petunia plant and have them crossbreed. After the offspring mature, we should check the results and if some are pink, then the color alleles are incompletely dominant.
