The first is the disengagement theory where as individuals age they start to withdraw from society. The second is the activity theory which states that older individuals will not be happy until they are able to replace the roles that they had previously lost. The third is the continuity theory that states that older people have to make certain choices to maintain consistent and remain active in their elder years.
