● Lydia Moss Bradley's 6 children and husband all had untimely deaths ● She then took over their fortune, which was uncommon at the time. She was one of the first women to sit on a national bank board, and invested money in farms which would ultimately become Morton, Illinois. ● She devoted herself to creating an institution for young people to be able to get an education that would include a combination of Liberal Arts with Practical Knowledge into a curriculum. ● She asked Dr. William Rainey Harper (President of the University of Chicago) to be Bradley's founding president in 1897 ● Her statue was erected in 1997 for Bradley's Centennial ● Students dress up Lydia to promote activities and campus pride

● The Garrett Center is the home of The Office of Diversity & Inclusion, and is a resource for racially diverse and international students to help them succeed at Bradley ● Support services are offered as well as numerous student organizations such as Muslim Student Association, NAACP, BSA, ALAS, Asian Amerian Alliance, and Common Ground ● The Garrett Multicultural Center recognizes and represents the legacy of Bradley's first African-American professor, Dr. Romeo B. Garrett ● What's in the Garrett Center? o Computer Lab with 6 computers and a printer for students to utilize o Conference Room with Student access by reservation o Student lounge with TV o Microwave and Refrigerator o Multicultural resource library with over 100 books for students to check out Renovations Include... o Exterior - replacing the front sidewalk, sandblasting the brick, adding signage and replacing the doors. o Interior - the plans are to digitize the front foyer, add a monitor, and to update the auditorium space with new lighting, carpet, and paint.

University Hall

● The room is divided so that if one roommate is up late studying, it remains dark in the beds so that the other roommate may sleep. ● Laundry facilities on the lower level ● Hilltop Studios- recording studio ● Lydia's Lounge o Comedians, Concerts, and Games o Bradley orchestra practices here

Hartmann Center

● Theater performance center and art gallery ● Meyer Jacobs Theater and smaller experimental lab stages ● 4-5 annual main-stage productions ● Productions are open to all majors ● New Faces: program to all those new to theater, production every fall Fun Fact-Eric Peterson, theater major graduate has played the lead on Broadway in "School of Rock" and was "Shrek" in the national touring musical.

Academic Success Center (Library 3rd Floor)

● Unlimited hours of tutoring, tutoring available for most 100 and 200 level classes (mostly for STEM) ● Tutoring by students who have taken the same class and received an A or B, undergo training and approval of department and professor ● Study skills classes and seminars offered ● Topics included in this seminar are... o Time management, textbook reading, note taking, classroom etiquette, exam prep, scholastic motivation, and course organization ● Special services for students with learning disabilities ● Supplemental Instruction (SI) is offered for STEM classes. A tutor will attend class, take notes and host review sessions for students to focus on collaborative learning. Fun Fact- During Finals, there are midnight munchies provided by the library staff! Student Access Services- • provides services for students with any disabilities Writing Center- • Provides writing help and development for all majors

Bradley Hall

● Where most classes for college of Liberal Arts and Sciences are housed ● Home of more than 50 majors within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (including the majors that do most of their work in Olin Hall) ● All students will have a general education or BCC class here (such as English or Math) ● Classrooms are digitally compatible allowing professors to use all media tools in the classroom ● Invite families to take a look in the classrooms ● If the doors to Neumiller are open, then allow your families to take a peek and use this as an opportunity to discuss how out of the almost 1,500 classes Bradley offers, only 8 are held in this lecture hall...if not open, then there is no need to discuss ● Unique things to mention: o Psychology Labs- Students can be paid to participate (Alcohol Lab for students 21+) o Foreign language round table- Allows foreign language students to practice regular conversation
