The Pelvic Girdle
Greater sciatic notch
Large indentation below the posterior iliac spine located on the posterior side opposite the two spines.
Acetabulum
Located on the lateral side of the os coxa. The location is near where the three bones (ilium, ischium, and pubis) fuse together to form the os coxa. The acetabulum articulates with the head of the femur.
Sacroiliac Joint
On the medial, posterior side of the ilium of each os coxa, there is a rough region that will join to the lateral sides of the sacrum to form the sacroiliac joint. (Sacroiliac is the same as the sacrum ilium).
Ischium
Part of the fused os coxa. Located on the posterior inferior side. Articulates with the femur.
Ilium
Part of the os coxa that forms the hip. Its located on the superior portion of the three fused bones. Functions as the hip bone.
Ischial Tuberosity
Rough surface located on the posterior side of the os coxa. Its inferior to the ischial spine.
Ischial Spine
Sharp bump located on the posterior side of the os coxa. Its inferior to the greater sciatic notch and superior to the ischial tuberosity.
Pubic Tubercle
Sharp point, its located on the anterior superior portion of the pubis.
Iliac Fossa
Smooth depression under the iliac crest. It's located on the medial position of the ilium.
Pubic symphysis
The joint that connects the pubic tubercles from both os coxa together.
Obturator Foramen
This foramen is located inferior to the ilium and anterior to the ischium.
Iliac Crest
smooth ridge on the ilium. It's located on the superior portion of the ilium.
Pubis
Bone fused to form the os coxa. Its located on the anterior inferior side. It articulated with the femur.
Pelvic Girdle
Forms the hips and is the pivot for the legs and the vertebral column.
