She struggles between her devotion to Mr. Peters and her desire to live as a swan with her sister. Or they may see the main conflict as internal for Mr. Peters, between his desire for Leita's companionship and his wish to see her happy.

What is the conflict?

Leta is crying and calling for her sister to wait for her. Infer that Rhea may be migrating for the winter.

External

Mr. Peters and Leita struggle to find happiness together. The main conflict is external, between Mr. Peters and Leita. They love each other but Leita is unhappy. Mr. Peters has to decide whether to turn her back into a swan or not. If not, she will remain unhappy as a human

This is where her sister lives

Why does Mr. Peters changes Leita back into a swan?

because the situation was hopeless and Leita would never be happy as a human.

malicious

evil; wicked

Why doesn't Mr. Peters use all three of his wishes at once because

he could only think of one wish. He puts the other 2 in a suitcase and pricked his tongue with a thorn, so wouldn't make rash wishes. He has an internal conflict because he remembered what another man had done by speaking rash words in anger (to his wife) and the sausage that was his first wish ended up on her nose. Mr. Peters pricked his tongue with a thorn to remind him not to make any rash wishes. He also put the other 2 wishes away in his case.

At the start of "The Third Wish," the only thing bothering Mr. Peters ( he is content and has almost everything he needs)

his is a little lonely and would like a companion.

Inference: "I have yet to hear of the human being who made any good use of his three wishes— they mostly end up worse off than they started." (old King)

old King is assuming that Mr. Peters will waste the three wishes.

Leita leaves a lot to go to the lake because?

she misses being a swan
