What are the steps to a tornado forming?

1) Thunderstorms occur 2) cold air overtakes the warm air 3) Air between the cold & warm air begins to swirl 4) warm air pushes the swirling over 5) The swirling sucks warm air up 6) The funnel grows and stretches 7) When the funnel hits the ground it is a tornado. *Remember if funnel doesn't hit the ground it is NOT a tornado but just a funnel cloud

What are the difference between a tornado watch and a warning?

A tornado watch is when the is a possible chance for a tornado to form in the air. A tornado Warning is where there has been a spotted tornado ON THE GROUND.

What are the Different names for Hurricanes around the world and where are they from?

Cyclone- Near South Pacific and Indian Ocean Typhoon- Near Japan in the Pacific

What are some safety things you need to keep in your mind when a tornado is coming through?

DO NOT GET IN A ROOM WITH A WINDOW. you also might want to go under ground if you can don't have a basement you need to go to somewhere in your house where that room is surrounded by 4 or 3 walls to be safe.

How is a Hurricane Formed?

Hurricanes begin just as a tropical storm over warm moist waters of the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans near the Equator. As moisture evaporates it rises until enormous amounts of heated moist air are twisted high into the atmosphere.

What is a storm surge?

It is the most dangerous part of the Hurricane. As Hurricanes swirl around the storm, they push water into a mound at the storms center.

Supercell

Large Thunderstorm can produce large Tornadoes

What agency is responsible for tracking and forecasting Hurricanes?

National Hurricane Center(NHC) National Oceanic and Atmosphere Association(NOAA)

What are the agencies that forecast severe whether?

National Oceanic and Atmospheres Association(NOAA) National Weather Service(NWS) (Tornados) National Hurricane Center(NHC) (Hurricanes)

What agency is responsible for Tornados?

National Weather Services(NWS)

Waterspout

Over warm water, they will most likely die when they get on to land.

What are the 5 types of tornadoes?

Super cell, Waterspout, Landspout, Gustnado, and multiple Vortex.

How were Hurricanes named?

The are identified by the phonetic alphabet. It was made in 1979.

What causes the most danger during the Hurricane?

The storm Surge

How are Hurricanes rated?

They are rated by their wind speed and how ever much damage they have occurred.

Explain how Meteorologist forecast tornadoes. What instrument is used? What data is needed?

They use radars and computer stuff such as satellites.

Landspout

This is like a waterspout, but it is on land instead of on water. This tornado is NOT associated with Thunder Vortex.

Gustnado

This tornado is formed by gust of winds, and these tornados are always small.

Multiple Vortex

This tornado is not just one tornado, it is more that one spinning tube of air.

Describe the size, shape, wind speed, rotation, and color of a typical Tornado.

Tornado form from very tall thunderstorms clouds called cumulonimbus clouds. It has a violently rotating colume of air with circulation around it. The size of a tornado is typically 500 ft., but can be smaller or few feet or a few miles long. The shape of a tornado is a funnel or a big fat wedge. The wind speed can be anywhere from 65 to 250 mile per hour. The color of a tornado depends on what it is going over. For example, if it was going over dirt it would be brown.

Know how to classify the Fujita Scale. How are the ratings determined?

Wind Speed Miles Per Hour F0 >73 Light F1 73-112 moderate F2 113-157 considerable F3 158-206 severe F4 207-260 Devastating F5 261-318 Incredible *This scale is measured by how much damage is done after the Tornado has passed through
