Our responsibilities as a manufacturer
As an international energy provider and chemicals producer, Total is directly concerned by major global economic, human resources and environmental issues. Total is committed to tangible objectives as part of its corporate social responsibility process, whose procedures, practices and performance are clearly defined and disclosed.
Reforming technologies - Catalytic
Catalytic reforming is a chemical process used to convert petroleum refinery naphthas distilled from crude oil into high-octane liquid products called reformates, which are premium blending stocks for high-octane gasoline
1991
Changed the name of American Petrofina, Inc. to FINA, Inc.
1985
Changed the name of American Petrofina, Inc., to Fina Oil and Chemical Company.
Coking
Coking is a refinery unit operation that upgrades material called bottoms from the atmospheric or vacuum distillation column into higher-value products and, as the name implies, produces petroleum coke—a coal-like material.
FCCU
Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit - accepts chains of hydrocarbons and breaks them into smaller ones in a chemical process called cracking. This allows refineries to utilize their crude oil resources more efficiently, making more products such as gasoline for which there is a high demand.
Port Arthur Refinery History
It's nearly a century old, however the facility, processing equipment, and technology is significantly newer. With beginnings as an oil terminal in the early 1900s, refining operations have been at this site since 1936. Today's facilities have since been replaced and its equipment updated throughout.
1997
Joint venture with BASF to build world's largest naphtha steam cracker facility, further integrating Company's Downstream and Petrochemicals divisions.
