What can the core be made of?

Air or Iron

What is the turns ratio?

Compares the number of Windings (turns) of P:S

What are the phase dots?

Illustrates the polarity between the two Windings

What is always equal between P:S?

Power

What are Transformers used for?

They are used to transfer energy from one circuit to another using electromagnetic induction.

What does it mean to step up voltage?

To increase

What is the Primary Winding connected to?

To the voltage source

What is the Current ratio?

Compares amperage of P:S and is the opposite of the turns &a voltage ratio.

What is the Voltage ratio?

Compares voltage of P:S and is proportional to the turns ratio

What are the types of Transformers?

Multi-Secondary, Center-Tap, Autotransformer, Current Transformer

What is the phase relationship between the two Windings?

Normally 180 degrees out of phase

What is an Autotransformer?

One Winding that acts as a primary and secondary Winding. Can be fixed or variable.

What is a Center Tap Transformer?

One primary Winding and One secondary Winding. However the secondary is divided into two equal outputs. Can be stepped up or down

What is a Multi Secondary Transformer?

One primary Winding and multiple secondary Windings, used to supply different output voltages from one source. Can be stepped up or down

What is the Secondary Winding connected to?

The load unit

What does it mean to step down voltage?

To decrease

What's another term for mutual Induction?

Transformer Action

What are the types of ratios between the primary and secondary Winding? (P:S)

Turns ratios, Voltage ratios, Currents ratios.

What makes a transformer?

Two inductors placed in Parallel to each other, a primary winding and a secondary winding?

What is a Current Transformer?

Used to monitor Generator output. Generator output acts as primary output, while the Coil surrounding the lead acts as secondary Winding.

What is Mutual Induction?

Varying voltage/Current in the primary causes a voltage to be induced into the secondary.
