1. Credit Mobilier - Union Pacific Railroad was building the transcontinental railroad and bribed congressmen stock in the Credit Mobilier company. 2. Whiskey Ring - A group of whiskey distillers bribed government officials to defraud the government of the excise taxes on liquor. 3. Fisk and Gould - they tried to gain control of the gold market by buying gold and then selling it when prices rose. Plane half worked because Grant opened up the federal gold when learned of the scam.

Dismissed Edwin Stanton - tried to impeach him but found not guilty.

Describe some of the pros and cons of the sharecropping system.

Pros- helped provide people something to do and added a sense of contribution. Cons- was similar to slavery, was under contract and was almost impossible to save money and work out of sharecropping because of taxes.

The Radicals wanted to punish the south while Johnson wanted to get the country together as quick as possible.
