What where Blain's two goals?
1).To create a customs union requiring all nations of the Western Hemisphere to reduce tariffs against each other and treat each other equally in trade. He hoped it would turn lateen americans away from european products. 2). To create a system for nations of the Western Hemisphere to work out disputes peacefully while also keeping europeans from modeling in american affairs. Latin american delegates rejected both ideas.
Define Protectorate.
A country that is technically independent but is actually under the control of another country.
Why was the US interested in Hawaii?
Americans found that sugarcane grew well in Hawaii and they exempted Hawaiian sugar from tariffs and they wanted the base of perl harbor.
Why did the U.S. look for new markets in the pacific?
As trade with Asia grew, the United States needed ports for its ships to refuel and resupply as they crossed the Pacific

Because Hawaii was in economic recession and they did not want to turn to Britain or France for help.

He was the Secretary of State and advocated Pan-Americanism.
How did the search for new oversea markets push the US to become a world power?
In order to find new markets the US had to find a place for their naval ships to rest and refuel. So as they built their navy they became a world power.
What was Fiske's Ideas linked to?
It's known away Anglo-Saxonism, with the idea of Manifest Destiny. These americans believed america was destined to expand overseas to spread its civilization to others.
