What is a medium

A medium of a wave is the matter a wave travels through.

If you were to compare the wave of a dim light to a bright light how would the waves compare? Describe.

A wave's amplitude is related to the amount of energy it carries. For example, a bright light has a higher amplitude than a dim light. Waves that carry bright light carry more energy than a dark light. This can also be applied to sound waves for louder and softer sound.

Draw a wave and label its components.

A wavelength is the distance from 1 crest to the next crest. Wavelengths can differ from size. For example, electromagectic waves have large wavelengths and X-Rays have smaller wavelengths.

What are electromagnetic waves? How are they produced? How are they transmitted? Do they need a medium to be transported?

Electromagnetic waves are waves that do not need matter to be transported (to transport energy). They do not need a medium to travel.

How does matter move in a compressional wave?

In compressional waves, matter in medium moves forward and backward in the direction that the wave travels

What is amplitude? How does a change in amplitude affect the appearance of a wave?

The amplitude of a wave is a half of the distance measured from a waves trough to its crest. The more amplitude (which is equivalent to the particles of a medium squeezed closer together) the louder the wave or the lighter and darker.

How is the color or pitch of a wave determined? A high-pitched wave is represented by what color?

The color or pitch is determined by the rate a wave resonates at. A high pitched wave is represent by the color blue.

What is frequency? Please give a formula to calculate frequency when given wavelength.

The frequency of a wave is the amount of wavelengths that pass a given point in one second. Hertz.

What is the frequency of a wave?

The frequency of a wave is the number of wavelengths that pass a given point in one second.

What is a hertz and how do you measure it?

This happens because light travels much faster in air then sound does.

What is a transverse wave, and in what ways does it affect matter? Explain three kinds of transverse waves.

Transverse waves are waves that move up/down or back/forth to transmit energy through matter, and it makes the matter move with the wave.

How does energy get transferred?

Water molecules transport the energy in a water wave by colliding with the molecules around them, just as with a line of people passing a ball.

What is a wave?

Waves are are the up and down movement motion caused by the movement of energy passed through movement.

Do waves transfer energy? Do they use matter?

Waves use matter to carry and transfer energy.

What kinds of waves are sound waves?

a sound wave is a series of compressions and rarefractions that are created by vibrations
