What is the heart of RTI?

It is important to understand that RtI does not require one specific type of response. It requires educators to integrate all the possible resources to minimize risk for the long-term negative consequences associated with poor learning or behavioral outcomes.

What does "multi-level instruction" mean?

Multi-level instruction consists of three tiers. Each tier correlates to the intensity of the supports offered to students.

Why is RTI useful?

RT maximizes learning for all students, and helps to more accurately identify students who have disabilities.

What is RTI?

RTI stands for Response to Intervention. RTI is a prevention program designed specifically to provide quick, early help to students who are having difficulty learning. It gives help before students are failing. The aim of RTI is to improve student success and reduce behavioral problems without the need to refer students to Special Education.

What are the Four Essential Components of RTI?

They are: 1. A school wide, multi-level instructional and behavioral system for preventing school failure 2. Screening 3. Progress monitoring 4. Data based decisions making for instruction, movement within the multilevel system, and disability identification (in accordance with state law)

What are the three tiers of intervention?

Tier 1: Is the student's general education classroom. Help is given in the form of research-based interventions to the class or individuals based on frequent assessment of the progress the group and individuals are making in meeting grade-level norms. Tier 2: Here students receive classroom instruction plus supplementary instruction. The supplementary instruction is provided by trained personnel. These students are frequently monitored to see if they no longer need Tier 2 services or if they may require Tier 3 services. Tier 3: These students need more intensive and more frequent interventions. They are having significant learning difficulties and have not been helped by Tier 2 interventions. Special-education instruction is provided to these students individually or in small groups by special-education teachers. They may be pulled out of the classroom or be moved to a special class.
