-trayvon martins final night began with a conveniance store run, a quick trip for candy & something to drink. it ended in a confrontation with a neighborhood watch volunteer, a shot fired, the 17 year old dead on the street -it might have been expected to end there the violent deaths of black teenagers have rarely drawn even fleeting attention -but the killing of this baby faced hooding wearing unarmed youth at the hands of a stranger still reverbrates 10 years later in protest, in patisanship, in racial reckoning reactionary response, in social justice & social media -"it was the thing that broke everyday, all at the same time," said nailah summers polite, co director of dream defenders & organization founded in florida during the protests following martins death -were the trayvon martin generation, we are the people who were moved into actions because of it -it happened on feb 26, 2012 martin was visiting his father in a gated community in sandford florida a suberb of orlando. walking on the way back from the store. he was eyes by george zimmerman then 28, a member of the communits neighborhood watch -the initial police report said zimmerman called authorities to report a suspicious person, a guy who, he said, looks like hes up to no good when zimmerman said he was following the man, a dispatcher said, we dont need you to do that. but armed with a gun, zimmerman got out of his car -in the confrontation that followed, zimmerman would tell authorities, martin attacked him, forcing him to use his gun to save himself. zimerman was allowed to go free -from the start martins parents, sybrina fulton & tracy martin, were outraged. they questioned zimmermans account. had their son had been profiled as suspicious merely because he was black? zimmermans family was adament that their son & brother, who identified as hispanic was not racist -as media attention picked up in early march, others joined in, first locally & then far beyond -for many black people, the idea that trayvon had been profiled because of his race hit a nerve, echoing their own expierences in all walks of life. in his death they saw their own vulnerabilities -it felt like, oh wow i cant walk down the street, even in the realm of my everyday like normal happenings that could have been easily been me, said jonel edwards, another co director of dream defenders -it was espcially jarring in 2012, when the occupant of the white house was barack obama, the countries first black president. his election had some insiting that america had turned a real corner in its troubled racial story; even make skeptics thought there had been progress - & yet martin was dead. the united states had elected a black president & had a black attorney general, & they are still killing us & not even arresting the killer we all saw our kids were still vulnerable said the rev al sharpton, who early on met with martins family & their attorney ben crump as they worked to draw more attention to his death -for many years police killings of black people like amadou diallo in 1999, seam bell in 2006 & ramarly graham, just weeks before martins death had caused outrage. but zimmerman was not law enforcement said jenner furst co-director of the documentary rest in power the trayvon martin story -this person did not have a badge he said this person had not been trained how to operate a firearm in the case of an emergency & not been trained in conflict management, had no skills for determining who is & who isnt the risk -said sharpton i think the fact that it wasent a real police officer made it even more egregious that authorities didnt take action. here is a wanna be security guard theres no reason for relectance here -as word spread of martins death many looking to speak out turned to the digitial space. social media had already shown its potential as a platform for protest, & now the trend went into hyperdive -kevin cunningham then a 31 year old graduate of howard unitiversities law school who was working as a social media consultant for a muslim organization, had been intrigued by the power of social media since he saw the role it played in the 2011 egyptian revolution, he posted a petition on change.org calling for zimmermans prosecution, & it soon had about 10,000 signatures -that number increased expotentially when he turned the petition over to martins parents, who made a personal plea for support for zimmermans prosecution. celebrities on social media encouraged people to sign. in the end, more than 2.2 million people signed on to the peition -it was the right place & time as far as that adoption of social media & just sort of the right eregious case that was able to touch peoples hearts cunningham said detactors were many. social media brought together multitudes for protests like the million hoodie march, as well as countless celebrities & everyday folk who posted images of themselves wearing hoodings with the hashtag, i am trayvon martin -among them: lebron james, then playing with the miami heat, who posted an image of him & his teammates wearing hoodies, their heads bowed -obama himself was drawn into the furor, framing it in terms no other president could -i can only imagine what these parents are going through & when i think about this boy, i think about my own kids obama said -if i had a son hed look like trayvon six weeks after the shooting, zimmerman was charged with second degree murder he would be acquited the next year. but the fermet unleashed by trayvon martins death did not stop -the verdict inspired a facebook post written by alicia garza, a hashtag created by patrisse cullors & a social media startegy superheaded by ayo tometi & the result was black lives matter, a movement to combat racism & racial violence against black communities -& many of the same demonstartors increased by martins kiling took to the streets to protest the death of micheal brown 18 & unarmed, killed by a police officer in ferguson missouri in august 2014, just weeks after eric garner, also unarmed, was killed by police in new york city -the moment of trayvon martin really opened our eyes, said edwards of dream defenders, adding there was much more of a general consciousness that had started in 2012 that then erupted in 2014 -then the 2020 death of george floyd, killed by minneapolis police, brought out a wide range of people around the country & the world -when the george floyd tradgedy happened we all saw that played out with trayvon film director furst said & so many people said never again this cannot happen that way again -but that public anger also inspried a reaction. there have been those who took expectation to obamas words of affinity to martin & saw the protests as anti police chaos & disorder -others acknowledge that martins death & its aftermath changed the country, but question whether the change was even remotely suffcient -sharpton, while dissapointed that there has not been more federal legislation put into place said a cultural change has happened -he pointed to the case of ahmaud arbery, the 25 year old black man chased & killed in 2020 by three white men who saw him running in their georgia neighborhood. the shooter in that case also claimed self defense, but an almost entirely white jury found them all guilty -i think trayvon shifted the culture where people started looking at things a little differently & nothing to me personifies that more than arbery sharpton said these two young men, i think are the two pillars where we are on race

twitter provides new insight into how it detects fake accounts

-twitter is now trying to use the media to negate another anticipated pushback from elon musks team, in regards to its claims that only 5% of its active users are fake -twitter held a briefing with reporters in which it gave more context as to how it policies fake & spam accounts, and removes such from the platform -as reported by reuters: "twitter removes more than 1 million spam accounts each day, executives told reporters in a briefing on thursday, prividing new insight into efforts to reduce harmful automated bots as billionaire elon musk has demanded more details from the social media company" -twitter has long reported that fake/spam accounts only make up 5% of its active users figures, but musk has loudly, and publicly, refuted this & has called for twitter to provide more evidence in order for the deal to progess

10 free keyword research tools (that arent google keyword planner)

1) google trends: google trends visualizes the relative search popularity of a keyword over time. for example, if we look at the term "costumes" for the past five years, we see that popularity spikes every october. this is because of halloween but how is this useful for keyword research? for starters, it can help you plan your content calender. lets assume you sell costumes online. publishing or republishing a list of the "10 scariest halloween costumes for 20XX" each september when apple launches a new iphone of you run a tech blog, it would make sense to update and republish any related posts every september. going neyond content calenders, trends can also help avoid targeting the wrong keywords take a look at these two: apple watch series 3 (KD 26) (120K) volume, and apple watch series 5 (KD 51) (25 K) volume. if you could only create content for one of these keywords, which would you choose? itd be the one with the highest search volume right? not as fast, because search volumes are averages taken across many months or years. if we check data for the past 12 months only in google trends, we see that searchers for "apple watch series 5" recently overtook those for "apple watch series 3" so if you were running an ecommerce store and had to prioritize one of these keywords, it would almost certainly be "apple watch series 5" after all, searchers for the series 3 are only going to decrease as time goes on 2) keyword generator: keyword generator finds up to 150 ideas for any seed keyword. for example, if we search for "bitcoinn" we get one hundred keyword ideas containing that word along with their estimated monthly search volumes. for the first ten keywords on each list, we also show the keyword difficulty (KD) score. this is a number between 0-100 that estimates ranking difficulty generally speaking, the higher it is, the more backlinks youll need to rank. sidenote: keyword difficulty (KD) dosent take anything else into account besides backlinks. its important to take content quality, search intent, and website authority into account when assessing ranking difficulty. learn more in this post. note that search volumes and KD scores are relative to the chosen country, which is the united states by default if your looking to rank elsewhere, just choose from one of the 170+ countries from the dropdown. you can also use the keyword generator to find keyword ideas for Bing, Youtube, and Amazon. just switch engine at the top of the page. sidenote, keyword generator is not the only free SEO tool by Ahrefs you can find more tools here 3) keyword sheeter: keyword sheeter pulls thousands of autocomplete suggestions from google. to get started, enter one or more seed keywords & click "sheet keywords". if you want to generate a lot of keyword ideas first, this is the tool for you. it pulls around 1,000 ideas per minute and you can export the results for free in one click. the only downside is keyword sheeter is that its quite basic. it dosent show search volumes or trends data, and it dosent group keywords as keyword planner does. but it does have one other notable feature: positive & negetive filters. the easiest way to explain how this words is to show an example. so lets add "how" to the positive filter. now it only shows queries that contain the world "how" informational keywords that might make for good blog posts. the negetive filter does the opposite & excluded queries containing certain words. this is useful for eliminating anything irrelevant. for example, if you run a tech blog & scrape results for "apple" then you probabley only want to see keywords relating to apple to company, not the fruit. so you could excuse keywords like "pie", "crumble", "fruit", and "cider". keyword explorer dosent just pull more keyword ideas. it also shows SEO metrics like monthly search volume and keyword difficulty (KD) 4) answer the public: answer the public finds questions, prepositions, comparisons, alphabeticals, & related searchers. confused? lets tackle each of these one by one. well start by entering a "seed" keyword lets stick with "protein powder" the first thing youll see are questions. these are search queries containing who, what, why, where, how, which, when, are, and is examples: what protein powder tastes best? how protein powder is made, are protein powders fattening?, when does protein powder expire? youll see a visulaization by default, but you can switch to a regular list. next up, we have propositions for can, is, near, without, with, and to. there are search queries that fit the seed preposition ----format examples: protein powder versus meat, protein powder or chicken breast, protein powder like quest and finally, we have alphabeticals & relates. alphabeticals are google autocomplete suggesstions. & related well who knows? in my expierence, the number of suggestions in the related category is almost always -20 i have mo clue how it derives those keywords. but it does kick back a few gems from time to time. but where does ATP get its data from? as far as were aware, that would be google keyword planner & google autosuggest. sidenote: all data is exportable, to CSV. no need to register or log in. looking for more question-type suggestions? answer the public gives 160 question-type queries for the phrase "cat". if we plug the same seed into ahrefs keywords explorer, we get 626,728 keywords thats 3,000x times more. of course were flexing our big data muscles here. for most people, answer the public has more than enough keyword suggesstions. but when your site grows bigger, theres always keywords explorer. 5) keyword surfer: keyword surfer is a free chrome extension that shows estimated global & monthly search volumes for any query typed into google. sidenote: keyword surfer works much the same way as another popular extension called keyword everywhere. this tool used to be free but recently switched to a paid model. keywords surfers developers have promised to keep this tool "100% free forever". right now, keyword surfer shows local search volume estimates for 19 countries. these include the united states, the united kingdom, canada, brazil, france, & germany. theres also an option to turn search volumes on or off. that said these arent true global search volumes. its the total sum of searchers from the 19 countries currently in their database. beyond this, the extension also adds search volume estimates to the autocomplete results: and shows 10 "similar" keywords in the search results: the only downside is that theres no way to get search volumed to bulk. that said bulk research isnt the aim of this extension. its more for assessing queries as your browse the web 6) keyworddit: keyworditt is a unique tool that pulls keyword ideas from reddit. enter a subreddit, and itll mine the titles & comments of threads to find up to 500 keywords. this toll is a fantastic starting point if you know little or nothing about a niche. for example, if you want to start a blog about paleo dieting but know nothing about the topic this tell you that paleo dietars care about things like: low carb meals, slow cooker recipes, grass-fed produce, etc. it also tells you what kind of language they use to describe such things. beyond ideas, the tool pulls estimated us monthly search volumes for each keyword. that helps give you some idea about the popularity of each subtopic. to learn more about a keyword, hit the "content" link to pull up the threads in google that the keywords were derived from. want to find content ideas fast? paste interesting keywords from keyworddit into keyword sheeter & ahrefs keywords explorer. for example, if we paste "red yeast rice" into keyword sheeter, we see ideas like: red yeast rice benefits, does reed yeast rice lower your chloresteral, does red yeast rice thin your blood, can red yeast rice make you tired, how much red yeast rice should you take a day. these may be good ideas for individual blog posts, or even for a "complete" guide 7) google search console: google search console helps you track your websites performance in organic search. this means it shoes a lot of data about the keywords that you already rank for. for example, take a look at the "search results" report from our account. it shows the keywords that have sent the most traffic to the ahrefs blog over the past three months. lets toggle the "average position" and "average CTR" columns. these show each keywords average ranking position and click-through rate. you can get alot of useful insights from this report. for instance lets say that your getting a lot of traffic from a keyword despite ranking in position 3-10. you may want to focus on ranking a higher for that instead of targeting new keywords. if your CTR from low to high. this often uncovers keywords that youre ranking for but never targeted. if any of these have with a new page. for example, we rank in position 8 for "most searched person on google". the page that ranks for this keyword is our list of the top 100 google searchers. this is only a sem-relevant result for this keyword. we may rank higher with a blog post about the most googled people not things 8) questiondb: questiondb finds the questions people are asking about a specific topic. it pulls these from a database of 48M questions are sorted by popularity, but you can also sort by topic. this is a super useful feature because it also groups questions together, for instance, lets search for "protein powder" and sort by topic. all questions about vegan protein powder are now grouped together. some goes for those about keto protein powders: this is useful when writing blog posts, as it helps you understand which questions to answer. speaking of answers if you check the box to "show source link" a clickable link appears next to each question. this takes you to the threat itself. if you browse the comments, you can find answers fast, which speeds up content research. all questions are exportable to CSV at the touch of a button. 9) bulk keyword generator: bulk keyword generator is a keyword research tool for local seo. it generates keywords based on industry tape. to start, follow step 1 choose a business type from the dropdown. you will then see a list of keywords relevant to the services or products you offer. for example, lets see "Plumber" as the business type. we see queries like hot water installation, gas installation, drain cleaning, and drain relining. now, most businesses that offer these services will mention so on their website. but many fail to create or optimize individual pages for these service-type queries. to illustrate, take a look at this plumbing companies homepage; it states that they offer drain reclining services, yet they dont have a page about this service. as a result, there outranked by those that do. in step 2, the tool that appends the chosen services with locations (London) however, this isnt particularly useful because it dosent reflect the way people actually search. for instance, most londoners wouldent search for "drain reclining services in london" theyd search for "drain relining" or "drain relining services". google serves local results either way, & the latter is quicker. this is also why theres often little or no volume for such terms in tools like ahrefs keywords explorer. so heres a smarter idea: copy a handful of service-type keywords from the tool that apply to your business: paste a list into google keywords from the tool that apply to your business; paste a raw list into google keyword planner; set the location to a relevant city or area. for example, lets type "drain relining" into keyword planner & set the location to nottingham. there are 10-100 monthly searches. 10) google: google is perhaps the most powerful keyword research tool on the planet. theres the autocomplete feature for generating an almost infinite number of keyword ideas. but thats only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to using goole for keyword research. for starters, take notice of the "people also ask" box that shows up for some searchers. people also ask: what is the best protein powder? what does protein powder do? are protein shakes bad for you? what is the best protein powder for weight loss? these are questions that google knows searchers are asking and what to know the answers to. and heres a quick trick: click on any of these questions, and google will load more. people will ask: what is the best protein powder? what does protein powder do? are protein shakes bad for you? what is the best protein powder for weight loss? do protein shakes help you loose belly fat? can i lost weight by drinking protein shakes? is protwin powder bad for your kidneys? does protein powder make you gain weight? does protein make you fart? is it bad to drink protein shakes everyday? is it bad to drink 2 protein shakes a day? how many protein shakes a day? should you take protein everyday? should i drink protein on rest days? keep doing this, & you can generate an almost infinite list of questions people are asking. but googles use as a keyword research tool dosent end there. lets say that theres a keyword you want to rank for. there are alot of factors at play when it comes to SEO, but one thing is certain: if you want to rank, then your content needs to allign with search intent. in other words, dont try to rank a gym homepage for query like "how to lose weight"? people who perform that search arent in buying mode. there in learning mode. google is your best friemd when it comes to understanding search intent. just look at the search results & the presence of SERP features. for example, imagine that were an email marketing tool & want to rank for "email marketing" looking at the search results for the query we notice two things: first theres a featured snippet. this is almost a sign of informational intent. searchers are in learning mode & want to see blog posts & guides, not product pages. second there are quite a few beginners guides. that tells us that most searchers are email marketing nobs who want to learn the absolute basics of email marketing. so thats what we should create if we want to rank for this keyword. now, if we search for something totally different like "dress" we see the opposite: all the results are ecommerce product or category pages, & google even shows shopping ads this tell us the searcher is in buying mode. bottom line? dont overlook google as a keyword research tool. keyword research is about more than just finding keywords. its about understanding who is searching for them and what they want to see.

twitter saw an immediate visible & measurable spike in hate speech after elon musk takeover researchers find

-after months of contention between elon musk & twitter executives over his bid to own the company, the tesla founder was officially given control on friday. but as the new leader emerged at the helm, the platform was a massive spike in hate speech a new study found -researchers from montclair state university found that the 12 hours immediately following musks ascension to ownership saw a much more hostile enviroment on twitter. the team looked at tweets fiilledd with vulgar & hostile rhetoric aimed at people based on their race, religion, ethnicity & orientation such as the n-word k-word, & f-word to find out just how bad it got -& what they found was an immediate, visible, & measurable spike -in the week leading up to musks acquisition, researchers said there were no more than 84 hostile tweets an hour on the platform. but from midnight on october 28 the day musk took ownership to noon the next day, there were 4,778 hate filed tweets. that accounts for more than 398 tweets an hour, about 4.7 times higher than the seven day average leading up to that day. the potential reach for those tweets was more than 3 million, researchers found -researchers also said there was an increase in negetive sentiment, with more than 67% of the tweets sent after musks takeover having a negetive tone -in sum, the content & tone of twitter posts became measurably more oriented towards hate speech on the day elon musk became ceo of the company with significant reach attained for this hate content the study says -yoel roth, twitters head of safety & security has also confirmed an increase in hate speech. on monday he tweeted that the company as seen a surge in hateful conduct & removed more than 1,500 accounts. a graph he shared a total impression of tweets with at least on slur shows that the increase kicked off on friday very shortly after the musk acquisition was announced. it appeared to spike between saturday & sunday -roth described the surge as a short term trolling campaign with many of the accounts they removed stremming then repeated bad actors on saturday he said is an example that more than 50,000 tweets that used a particular slur were issued by just 300 accounts, most of which were inauthentic -these issues arent new & the people targeted by hateful conduct arent numbers of data points. were going to continue investing in policy & technology to make things better, he tweeted -while monclair researchers made it clear that the acquisition saw an immediate increase in hostile language on the platform, what remains murky is what specifically caused it. musk has long said that this ownership of twitter would come with fewer restrictions, but researchers said its speculative to know whether his potential policy changed would have caused the spike -its possible however that based on his sentiments users resorted to the language its possible, because they assumed they would no longer be banned or suspended from the platform. its also possible that having an unmoderated platform was potentially a source of excitement, researchers said -musk has not explicity said what he will be tolerated on the platform since the surge began, although he has retweeted ruths statements about the surge. on friday musk said that twitter will form a content moderation council with widely diverse viewpoints & that no major content decisions would be made before that council can convene -twitter will not allow anyone who had deplatformed for violating twitter rules back on platform until we have a clear process for doing so, which will take at least a few more weeks musk said tuesday night. twitters content moderation council will include representaties will widely divergent views which will certianly include the civil rights community & groups who face hate fueled violence

intro to site

-cheerconnections is the name of the fun & interactive platform i have created for athletes specifically at the high school & college level. they can share their expierences based on their specific sport & connect with others when sharing their sports as the platform creator. i am personally hoping to form connections with others i have been an athlete for most of my life participating in cheerleading. although, it is fun for me to be a cheerleader, what many people may not be aware of is the mental & physical demands that come with cheering & the tool it may take on your health. athletes are constantly told to be strong & push through the pain they may endure as they arent percieved by others in weak & vulnerable. however, by pushing themselves to the limits & perservering through the pain, athletes can cause permanent damage to their bodies -personally as a cheerleader for many years, i have expierenced long lasting physical & emotional damage. i have a finger on my hand that is permantely crooked from a cheer injury. i also have siatoca from injuring my back at cheer. i often expierence anxiety & a sense of insecurity worrying if i am good enough or as good as my teammate. these feelings developed from my coaches in the past threatening me that i will be dropped from the team if i dont bring in my very best performance to win a medal. i realize now as an adult that participation in sports is not all about winning -the reason i originally started participating in cheer was because my friends were involved & expressed to me how much happiness & fun energy it brought into their lives, enlightening me & persuading me to sign up & become a cheerleader. the moment that i decided to transition from the recreational league to a competitive team, i realized cheer was no longer fun but anxiety driven & stressful. i often felt alone expierencing these feelings, & thought perhaps i was the one being dramatic for frequently having these feelings when it came to the sport. many of my coaches were yelling at me for a reason. these were self-doubts running through my head. when i had a reality check & spoke to other athletes on my team, they spoke about how they felt the same way. they wished someone had come & talked to them earlier about their feelings. as they didnt feel so isolated in feeling that way. this is the purpose of the blog. to give athletes a safe space to talk about their feelings & connect with others from various ages, backgrounds, & sports so everyone can come together, relate to one another & most importantly establish those connections -my overall goal of the platform is to share my own personal story & have others relate to it & to one another so no one will ever have to feel alone again. oftentimes, athletes face discrimination regarding their race, gender, & overall cultural background & i want those individuals to come forward & share their personal expierences & what issues they are forced to deal with on a daily basis. there will be subsections to my blog emphasizing emotional & physical strains, on sports, sports through a pandemic, & LGBTQ in sports. athletes can respond to those subsections topics that they personally relate to or even create their own post that others can respond to. its all about sharing expierences & forming those personal connections. perhaps speaking about the struggles athletes go through & sharing their expierences will make those struggles more managable & help build resilience. if you want to make new friends & form connections then engage in this platform as it is designed to unite athletes in all sports & form those connections with others while embracing one another & building strong relationships

-the shooting death in florida earlier this year of an unarmed african american teenager trayvon martin, by a white hispanic neighborhood crime watch volunteer, george zimmerman, sparked demonstrations across the united states, particularly within the black community. much of the attention the case has recieved has been driven by social media -across the united states, african americans mobilized in memory of 17 year old trayvon martin. & in protest over the fact that the man who shot him & intially avoided criminal charges -early on, african americans using social media kept the story alive, rather than the popular press -"the minute you get a message out there that has engagement that gets people imaginations fired up or gets their emotios or passions stoked, its going to go beyond your network because you may have your 130 facebook followers but each one of has 130 of their own so the message can spread like wildfire said micheal stricker, director of social media with the internet marketing firm webimax -during one week, more than a million people signed an online petition & numerous messages appeared on social media sites calling for the arrest of george zimmerman, the neighborhood crime watch volunteer who told police he shot martin in self defense -even on college campus, like howard university in washingtom, students used twitter, facebook & other social media outlets to communicate & even organize demonstrations -"it hit close to home for a lot of students here because they are not much older than trayvon martin martin when he was killed. so they (the students) wanted everybody to know about this story & how they felt it was simply an injustice to a young black man," said ingrid sturgia is an assistant professor of journalism at howard university. she says young african americans often use social media to draw attention to social causes. -i think it is one of the best tools today to help people get out the messages that they want to get out depending whether it is racial injustice or whather it is to support a cause," sturgis said -a pew research study says blacks use mobile phones & other devices to gain access to social media sites in larger numbers than americans overall -"these conversations have always happened, but they have been in the barber shop or they have been in the drug store or they have been on the street corner. i think what is happening now is social media allows us all to see that conversation & hot it has manifested in a more tangible way & it increases our awareness," said david johnson, a jouranlism professor at american university in washington -social media have been used to publicize our cases involving race & sturgia sees the trend continuing -today you dont dont have to be a part of an organization to get your voice out there. i think that social media is going to increase in the number of ways that people can get their message out & how much attention & whether or not you can make change & i think it is going to take a greater role in doing that," strugis said -other analysts predict social media among african americans will spile again when george zimmerman, the man accused of killing trayvon martim, goes on trial

7 social media content writing tips

1) do your research: if you want your audience to notice & engage with your social posts, you need to make highly relevant to your target group - the more relevant your posts are, the more success you will have but relevance, in general, is not enough. you need to take the time to truely understand your audience. start with the general demographic information and then go deeper -what needs, obstacles, or challenges do they have? pick a need or challenge that might be a high property for them right now, then develop content & social media posts which provide them with a solution -PRO TIP: to connect with your audience on an emotional level, share success stories from your previous satisfied customers. this will help success stories from your previous satisfied customers. this will help them envision their own success as a result of using your product or solution, and make them feel positive about you 2) speak their language: take your research further & learn what language your ideal clients to communicate their needs or challenges. use this language when writing your posts to ensure your content resonates with your audience. this will help to show them that you truly understand them and their challenges -for examples, a post you write on linkedin for senior level executives will read very different to post you write on facebook for new moms. not only do these two groups of people have different challenges & points of view, but their language the exact phrasing they use to speak about their needs and challenges differs significantly also 3) develop your voice: although you should write social media posts in the language of your target audience, the overall message should be written in your own voice -your voice (or your brand voice) refers to the personality & emotion infused into all your marketing activities & social interactions online, you create that voice with the language & tone you use when writing your content or interacting with your audience -this voice needs to be consistent throughout the content you create & the posts you share on social platforms, as well as any engagement you have on those networks -this consistency will help your audience connect with you emotionally, as well as build trust, & identify your social media posts as yours 4) be positive: this dosent mean every post needs to be happy, theres a huge difference between positive & happy. you want your audience to be excited, & inspired by your posts & that dosent always mean happy posts -in some of your posts, you may choose to share your opinion or take a stand on something important to you and your brand. but theres a difference taking a stand & attacking or critcizing others -alot of school year style bullying happens on social media. dont engage with it -whatever you do, avoid criticizing anyone (or any business) publicly. criticizing others is not only unprofessional but also dangerous, it can draw more negative people to your page, and can hurt any trust or credibility youve built with your existing followers 5) keep it short & simple: people value their time. if you want your audience to give you their attention, you need to show that you value their time also -great ways to do this include: making your content & posts easy to read by writing at an eighth grade reading level -using headings, bullets & lists where possible to make your content or posts easier to scan -keeping paragraphs to only two or three sentences -being as succinct as possible when writing on your topic 6) use images & videos: use images, graphics, & videos to tell a story where possible. visual content is more engaging & can often tell the story quicker & more succinctly than words alone. in fact, an image or video can often stand alone in social media posts while still conveying the full message to your audience -keep in mind that video, in particular, can better enable you to connect with your audience on a deeper level. people respond well to video, as it can humanize you & enable them to get to know you more intimately -most platforms have live video features, which can greatly benefit you. an unscripted live video can make you feel vulnerable but that vulnerability will give your video a level of authencity, which is often lacking in high-quality marketing videos. those slick marketing videos are more likely to be ignored than a live video featuring your authentic self -for best results, optimize each piece of visual content for the platform your posting it on to ensure your message is being shared & that you look professional 7) add a call to action: at the end of your content on social posts, consider prompting your audience with what youd like to take them to take next by including a call to action (CTA). without one, most people wont take any action after reading your content even if they enjoyed it & derived value from it -CTAs come in different forms & have different purposes. for example, you can motivate your audience to take action with these CTAs: -ask them to like or share your social media posts -ask a question they can answer in the comments -direct them to another piece of content -send them to a landing page -direct them to your website -get them to subscribe to your newsletter -ask them to connect with you on social media channels

the goal of the nonprofit video marketing campaign

according to the red cross, 1 in 12 teenagers in great britian engage in self harming behaviors. across the country, 110,000 self-harm cases were reported at accident and emergency departments. and 42% of surveyed youth said they had self-harmed or knew someone who had self-harmed. these numbers were enough to make the red cross sit up & take notice. but even more interesting. 80% of those teens surveye cross sit up & take notice. but even more interesting 80% of those teens surveyed in also indicated that they were interested learning first aid so they they could help someone in need. and thats the number that inspired the red cross into action. they decided that they wanted to make first aid relevant to these teens, & relevant in a way that would motivate them to learn enough to be helpful in an emergency situation. and so they began the process of creating a nonprofit video marketing campaign targeted at bristish youth

all about me

as you may want to get to know me, i am a twenty year old die hard cheerleader who has been performing the sport for as long as i can remember. along with cheer, i am an outgoing, friendly, bubbly spririt who enjoys being around others & embarking on new adventures. when i started my new adventure of becoming a cheerleader, it became my entire life. i have to put my blood, sweat & tears into this sport suffering from both mental & physical distress, but honestly it has been well worth it because it truely makes me happy. this sport may be draining, as i am expected to win every competition i compete in the best of my ability usually given zero breaks & am constantly worried about the chance of dissapointing my coaches & fellow teammates if i had an off day or had some fumbles. as i go into my next era of college it really was an eye opener for me as i can recall from my sophomore season cheering on the basketball team, it was about having dun as there was no competion & no judgements. that is something i have never expierenced before in a sport, even though the reason for getting involved in a sport is the fun one has for it & the passion that comes with it. ive realized i have lost that charisma & energy i began with when it came to cheer -i used to cheer back in elementary school & middle school & had a huge smile on my face & looked forward to going to basketball & football games to cheer on my schools team. once i started competing all of this changed for me & suddenly everything was taken to the next level i was a full time athlete whose world revolved around this sport. i was always an athlete but changed from the fun loving one to the overly competitive serious one. i went to cheer to win & be better than everyone else not to have fun. that is what i lost who i was as a cheerleader & a person in general. it was time to straighten out my large floppy bow & loosen up my high pony & find who i was & remember why i loved cheer so much & that it is important to spread this awareness & assist other athletes in the process of finding their passion for the sport & the reason why they began practicing the sport in the first place. that was the realization i had knowing it was about having fun with the sport & getting to meet new people while cheering on my fellow classmates, not competing & loving my heart that came with cheering -i want this blog to evoke change in individual athletes lives by easing their anxiety & stress revolving around sports based on the pressure that is put on them. what many spectators may not be aware of also is the discrimination based on gender, race, & overall cultural background what athletes endure through in their particular sports. this platform is designed to form connections with others & bring these issues to life while speaking on personal expierences they had had with their sports & find their heart that may be missing holding the passion of dedication athletes have to their sport. it is not just a sport for athletes its a lifestyle & it is my goal to relive stress & embrace different cultures while brining the nostalgia back of the overall fun favtor that comes with sports

Asking the right questions

checking for completeness. to determine if you need information ask the following questions: is the message current? are the latest statistics used? for example, a television news story on accidental deaths attributed to alcohol must have this years figures on reported cases, not figures from two years ago, or even last year. your audience wants to know how serious the situation is today. if those numbers arent available, you need to say so, and explain why. are any questions raised left unanswered? are all essential elements of the message present, including meaningful context? context is a key element in clear writing and communication. each message must be complete for example: a news release that says a company is privately held must define what privately held means

in a tweet for those who follow you on twitter, you might alert them to the longer story posted on the newspaper online set, the Twitter post would focus on new life for a familiar landmark & link to the complete article. in the online story, you could expand on the information in the tweet & add photos, a timeline, & reader comments. to write both the tweet & the story, you had to ask, "what will my audience want to know first"

free vs paid keyword tools: how do they compare

its simple: free keyword tools are limited compared to paid tools. thats not to say that free tools dont have their uses. but the number of keyword ideas & data they give access to will always pale in comparison to paid tools. because of this, paid tools allow you to go way deeper & do more advanced marketing research. to illustrate, heres what happems if we go type "protein powder" into ahrefs keywords explorer: 123,000+ "phrase match" suggesstions from our database of 9.9 billion keywords. no free keyword tool runs on a database that large. we also show tons of data points, including estimated monthly search volume; keyword difficulty (KD, clicks CPC and everything is searchable, filterable & returned in seconds. sidenote: we add new keywords to our database & refresh search volumes each month. doing this with free keyword tools would be next to impossible. plus, to make any real decisions on the competitiveness of a keyword, you should analyze the top 10 ranking pages. to an extent, you can do that using google. but in keywords explorer, we show backlink data & traffic stats for each of the top 10 results. just scroll down to the SERP overview. FYI: as far as were aware, no other keyword tool, free, or paid can do this. final thoughts: dont get me wrong, you can find some good keywords with free keyword tools. but doing so can be very time-consuming. and time is money. the reality is that spent mining google autocomplete for queries is time wasted. the same true is merging data from multiple free keyword tools in speadsheets. you should aim to use that time for more important stuff, like creating content or link building. furthermore, paid keyword tools--- like ahrefs keyword explorer run on huge amounts of data. that makes them much more effcient at finding low competition keywords. bottom line: free keyword tools are good when your standing out, but as you grow your site, youll need paid tools to keep up with the competition. did we miss any good keyword research tools? let me know in the comments or on twitter.

character count

the number of characters/letters and spaces within a post. the character count is what Twitter uses. for example, the phrase "three days" is only two words long, but it has ten characters (number of letters & spaces) and you want to keep that in mind when writing for microblogs like Twitter. you have up to 280 characters to use maximum in twitter, remember. don't mix up with word count; there is a big difference

a generation defined by the pandemic

- a new survey about student expierences during the fall semester and the coronavirus pandemic found that stress, anxiety & loneliness were their overriding concern. the data are representative of the real-life challanges and uncertainty that students say they face -uncertainty, instability and self doubt have been common themes in the lives of college students during 2020 as their education and career plans shift due to the coronavirus pandemic -these were the general feelings expressed about 450 college students & recent who responded to a small, open ended survey conducted by a pair of 2020 graduates, & reiterated on a larger scale in a new nationally representative survey of 4,000 undergraduates by the strada education network, a national organization focused on improving education & career pathways. the various responses show that heightened stress & anxiety whether about achieving academic success, finding future employment or paying for the next meal is currently dominating the student psyche. -Livia morris & her twin sister Julia Morris, who graduated in the spring from the university of california, davis gathered anecdotes through a qualitative survey in july about how students are faring during the pandemic. the survey started as a proposal for a spring stanford university fellowship program and morphed into an independent project. it offers an unfiltered picture of the personal struggles & collective amongst held by students & recent graduated whose college & career plans have been completely suspended by the pandemic. -the respondents frequently alluded to mental health challenges theyre experiencing. some students shared stories of dropping out of four year institutions to attend local community college or taking a year off because of their strong "aversion to online learning", julia morris said. recent graduates voiced worries about increased unemployment, the recession & the potential loss of job oppurtunities & wages in their respective industries, she said. -the sisters conducted the survey using a google form shared on various college & university reddit channels & published the responses in an article posted on medium, titled, "i feel that the future ive been working towards my whole life is gone now"----- what students have to say about the coronavirus -"the crushing uncertainty of the next few years---- & the pressure to succeed in spite of it----- can at times feel suffocating, & with no playbook to turn to, recent graduates & current students across the united states have been left feeling utterly disillusioned, livia morris wrote in the article. -although, the survey is not peer reviewed, and is a limited anecdotal snapshot of the realitities of students lives & futures, the findings align with the much broader set of data released thursday by strada education -stress, anxiety & loneliness were the top challenges most students identified they were dealing with during the fall semester, & those issues outweighed stressors such as struggling financially or managing academic workload, according to strada survey report. seventy-one percent of students surveyed also said "online instruction has negatively impacted their ability to learn" and 13 percent said they definetly or are likely to take longer to graduate due to the pandemic, the report said - strada education recieved responses from a group of about 4,000 undergraduate students from 244 different institutions between sept 10-25 with the help of college pulse, a research company, & nichole torpey-saboe, director of research for strada. the survey results reflect other recent & widespread assessments of the effect of the pandemic on students mental health. three fourths of respondents said stress or anxiety has been a challenge for them, and 58 percent said they have been struggling with "feeling lonely or isolated" during the fall semester, the survey report said -fourty-four percent of students named "stress, anxiety & loneliness" as their "biggest" challenge over other concerns, the report said. in comparision, 22 percent of respondents said "keeping up academically" was their biggest challange this semester, and 14 percent said paying for tutition, books & other costs has been their primary challenge during the fall semester. -jesse barba, senior director of external affairds for young imvincibles, a national group that advocates for the political & economic empowerment of youth, said the strada findings are "very consistent" with that organization has been hearing from students in its network around the country. barba said increased stress & anxiety is an expected result of more widespread reliance on online-only instruction, more students living in "toxic" home enviroments, or not having access to high-speed internet to learn effictively & being cut off from "key" college-provided resources such aa dorm room, meal plan & health care -when it comes to things outside of tuition---basic needs, housing insecurity, food insecurity--- we know that half of all college students have been affected by that even before COVID barba said. if you cant get a square meal in the morning, you are mire likely to fall behind your peers in the long run. then the pandemic hit & its even harder the strada survey also showed that finances were "much more of a conern" for black & latino students than for their white peers. torpey-saboe said. fifty-two percent of latino students & than for their white peers. torpey-saboe said. fifty-two percent of latino students & 48 percent of black students paying for tutition & other costs as a challenge they face this semester, versus only 36 percent of white students & 41 percent of students over all. only 11 percent of white students cited financial challanges as their "biggest" struggle, compared to 9 percent of latina students & 20 percent of black students who responded to the survey. -torpey-saboe also noted that latino students were more likely to delay their expected graduation data as a result of the pandemic than students of other races. while 18 percent of latino students said they would "definetly" or "likely" change their expected graduation date due to the impact of the pandemic, 12 percent of white students anticipated having to adjust their graduation date. -deborah santiago, CEO of excelencia in education, an advocacy group that aims to support latino students in higher education, said in an email that the data on latino students delaying their graduation are very concerning. the latino community has also been disproportionately harmed by the pandemic through widespread loss of employment and family income, santiago wrote, as a result, latina students may have have has to take on more financial responsibility, she wrote -"over the last few years, we have seen a significant acceleration in lations degree completion, she wrote. "the implications of the potential delay in competition as noted in this analysis is a slow down in the pace of completion & the lost momentum to close the equity gap in degree attainment nationally" -torpey-saboe said the 71 percent of students who said they were "much worse" and a "little worse" off academically due to online instruction during the fall semester was particularly suprising & disappointing. there was hope in higher ed circles that instructors who were not expierenced in teaching courses online & had to quickly shift to remote instruction when campuses across the country closed last spring would have built up their skills by the start of fall semester, she said. -"I was suprised at the levelk of negativity and pessimisim around online instruction" torpey-saboe said "everyone knew that it didnt go well in the spring, but there was more hope for the fall, that there was more time to prepare & adjust. we didnt explicity ask students to compare fall & spring. it could still be thats it better, but over all students feel that its worse for them than what there used to. -charlie digiogio, a senior at west virginia university who is studying theatrical design, said the shift to online reduced his ability to learn effectively. as part of digiogios particcum courses required for his major, he builds theater sets & worrks on sound and lighting for university productions. those activities were canceled for the spring & fall 2020 semesters & pushed to later dates. digiogio was in the middle of a hands on welding class when the campus closed in march. -"learning to weld through a computer is not exactly feasible" he said "at this moment, i should be able to weld for shows, but i am not certified to do that" -digiorgio said now that WVU shows, but I am not certified to do that" -digiorgio said now that WVU has reopened with a hybrid model of in-person & online classes, hes been "playing catch up" and meeting with the professir who taught the welding class just last semester to practice welding. even if he does learn the skills he needs to do professional set design, the entire theater industry has been hit hard by the pandemic and digiogio is unsure if hell have a career path after he graduates in fall 2021. he noted that the broadway league in new york city recently announced that it will postpone productions until may 2021. -"were in this spot as an industry where its like, oh crap" digiorgio said :its led to alot of self-doubt about, can i do this, what if my fiekd is not here in 10 years it does lead to a lot of negetive head space" -ben roux, a senior at missiouri state university who is scheduled to graduate in may 2021, with a comouter science degree, considers himself lucky to have secured a job in software development for next year. roux applied to about 100 software related jobs in wide range of locations & industries and was only invited to participate in two interviews -roux worries if he'll keep that job if the economy worsens. the recent loss of his part time job on campus that paid for groceries, gas, & other expenses has also amounted to added stress during the semester, he said -"a lot of stuff is up in the air roux said. "we dont know what spring 2021 is going to be like.... i personalky like to make plans for the future and it feels like a little of that has been taken away" -barbs of young invincibles, compared what current students are facing to what college graduates expierenced during the great recession of 2008-9 over all he is not optimistic about current students economic futures & noted that there will be likely be dicrepancies between students of color & white students in their ability to bounce back financially -"i hate to be stark, but im fearful that we will have a lost generation" he said we know that boomers were defined by the vietnam war, millenials, by 911 and the great recession and gen z will be defined by the pandemic. there repeating the same story that we want through as millennials. im not excited to see the trend continue in a negative direction

sports on genders

-this post will also be featured on facebook as users can watch the attached video & then be linked to my blog. viewers can also comment on other users feedback in the facebook page to post their thoughts rather than on the blog post -the sports would is still dominated by men & women athletes continue to recieve unfair treatment. we hear of sports legends like micheal jordan, peyton manning, tiger woods, serena williams & micheal phelps. these individuals all participate in various sports but all have one thing in common can you guess what it is? if you guessed steadfast dedication & physical strength & stamina in their designated sport then you are correct. all of these individiuals have become professional athletes because of thier talent & skills involved with their particular sport along with the grueling practices & long term commitment they have endured to be the best at their sport -serena williams, a professional american tennis player has built a legacy as a female icon & tennis superstar in a male dominated sport. she currently has a huge following, dedicating her entire life in the sport. serena wouldent be where she is today if she didnt go through the hardhsips of the sport "williams was severaly penalized in wimbledon tennis tournament for calling a judge theif over abad call when her male counterparts admitted to saying for worse with no repercussions" typically women arent always recognized for their athletic abilities as compared to me because there is a streotype that males are naturally athletic & stronger as compared to females. however, having serena williams story & how far she has come to beat all the odds competing in a gender inclusive sport. she has proved to be one of the best female tennis players of all time. williams is the active leader in grand slam singles titiles. she owns 23, including seven at the aulstralian open & wimbledon. she also owns 14 major doubles titles, two major mixed titiles & four olympic gold medals. her total of 23 is one short of all time held by margaret court - golf ia another male dominated sport with most people aware of tiger woode & his huge golf legacy. woods holds the record for the most PGA tour wins (83). however, there is a former professional female golfer, kathy whitworth who is considered to be one of the greatest players in womens professional golf, having won 88 LGPA your tournaments. although, she is considered to be the all time winngist player in gold history, she never recieved the same public recognition & notoriety as tiger woods because of gender inequality. female athletes not only face inequality with regard to oppurtunity & participation in sports & in some sports professional female athletes are making less money than their male counterparts -this youtube video features female athletes speaking out about the inequality that occurs in sports & we get to hear their own personal stories & thoughts. clearly female athletes are just as good as their male counterparts but expierence gender inequality with regard to oppurtunity, participation, & monetary compensation

editing for online & other platforms

"online editors sometimes need to tailor the language of the news for the online audience. people who read news online often are more interested in what is happening now, rather than what is delayed or expected. online readers might spend no more than a few seconds scanning a story before moving on. that means you must "hook" your reader somehow by sharing information that will cause him/her to pause long enough to read your text. that might be a snappy headline, a gripping image or direct quote, an eye-catching video feed etc. -this perusal places emphasis on brevity and action when working online, editors must remember that their headlines, short descriptions and key phrases might also function as live links . live links are key for sharing bonus information, sources related stories, a click takes the reader to the full story or to a photo essay. so in addition to bearing information, these words must move the reader easily to related stories -"and more information is shared on social networking sites such as facebook. editors should be aware of all the places their words will appear. in some cases, only a portion of the full text will appear. in some cases, only a small portion of the full text will appear to the audience. mobile devices such as smartphones present a smaller and shorter view of most messages. editors need to stay abreast a continuous changes in tools the audience uses and the effect of digital media on writing & style" -the length of the message/text should vary according to the social media used (you will see more in the "one message three ways" assignment later in the semester) as we know twitter, facebook, and linkedin use different lengths and formats

- a need for a community playground. as austin describes the app, was apparent before musks takeover. on most apps you have to be very singular & i think people are multifaceted & have many different things that bring them joy that they want to talk about austin said. there really wasent a place to have intentional, thoughtful conversations in which a person listens & responds on the internet, she said -most importantly austin wanted to create a platform where people of minority communities could thrive & just be. i think being a black person, a person of color, online usually is a tragic expierence. so we are rethinking how we can build a digital place that makes being online & being in your full identity affirming. during the apps initial user research, austin found that black participants expressed feeling like they needed to move defensively in online spaces. not in a verbal way, but in how they show who they are because they are worried that theyll be found by the white supermacists lurking in the corners & their expierence will be tainted. in 12 hours immediately after musks purchase of twitter, hate speech tweets were fied off in high numbers, with the use of the n-word spiking by nearly 500% on the platform. sexist & anti LGBTQ posts also increased -austin & her team took measures to ensure that somewhere good would be a safe space, including international early invite codes to lay a foundation of behavior of how people talk to the platform, a limit on how often users can post a voice note to ensure no one can go on a heated rant & an automatic removal policy when a harmful voice note is reported. we always take the side of the person who feels harm has occured & then we investigate but we dont let it kind of sit & fester & allow more people to feel harmed, which i think is a very specific choice as you get into how other platforms do it. twitter specifically said austin

musk looks to reassure advertisers ahead of twitter takeover, outlines elements of his plan

-as he prepared for the next stage of his twitter takeover, which looks set to be finalized this week, elon musk has released a new statement on his intentions for the platform, and the impact that it will have on advertisers, whobe been justifiably concerned about musks vision for the app -musk has said that he will look to remove ads from the platform entirely, which would reshape a lot of marketing approaches at many brands. but now, after visiting twitter hq, & with $44 billion about to be debited from his account, musk has changed his mind on this. musk is now saying that he actually wants to make twitter 'the most respected advertising platform in the world'

the message (chap 5)

-audiences are information seeking, so writers must let them know right away what is in the message -writers must alert audiences to important messages because they are juggling other responsibilities & competitors for their time/attention -messages should hook the audience, whether a 140 character microblog (twitter feed) pr a 2,500 word feature -"the hook must be set in the first few words, sentences, or paragraphs. the opening sentences are known as the lead of the message & attract, entertain, & inform audiences or drive them to a website for more information. this lead helps readers of listeners decide whether the message is compelling, entertaining or informative enough to warrant their full attention (johnson yupp pg 92) -"while a longer descriptive lead might work in the print edition of a newspaper, a shorter version with important elements that can also help index the storys content would appear on the online set. even with microblogs, such as twitter, the entire message serves as a lead to send readers to the entire story (so you might use a line in twitter, to kick or feed readers to your longer story on your own platform). writers today need to know how to write all types of leads (johnson yopp, 92)

listen up! audio posts & podcasts

-audio posts are an easy & creative way for your audience to hear your message in own voice. grab your phone or laptop & record your voice you can give your visitors a unique welcome to your author website & thank them for stopping by. then upload the recording to your "about me" page. podcasts have become one of the most popular forms of storytelling on the internet, so you might want to consider starting your own! just remember: if you read any of your work on a podcast, it could be considered previously published. learn more here

the bird is freed

-elon musk completed the acquisition of twitter for $44 billion on oct 27 a lot has happened since then as musk moves to overhaul the company, taking it private & firing top executives & handing half of twitters workers pink slips -before the billionaire seeled the deal on analysis of his 19,000 tweets showed his complicated relationship with twitter -these types of fast rollouts of products were particularly concerning to privacy staffers, some of whom quit thursday. they said they needed rull security reviews required under an order twitter entered with the federal trade comission earlier this year, following allegations that the company deceptively used phone numbers & other personal information for adverrising purposes -regualtors in europe, which has more stringent data protection rules than the united states were closely monitoring the rapid developments at twitter officials on monday DPC spokesman graham doyle told the post -the irish regulators plan to speak with twitter about the recent departure of the companies date protection officer, damien kieran. european union laws require companies to have a designated officer on staff & the irish regulators were not notified of the data protection officers departure before it was reported in the media, doyle the irish regulator also plans to press twitter officials about whether key decisions about the processing of e.u. -currently ireland acts as the lead data protection authority overseeing twitter in europe. but if the company is no longer making key decisions there a designation known as main establishment twitter may have to answer to individual regualators in all 27 eu member states, which would introduce a greater complicance burden of the company. the united kingdoms information comissioner office also issued a statement friday saying that it was continuing to monitor the situation with twitter it encouraged anyone with concerns to report then to the office -overnight, musk tweeted that the site hit in all time high of active users on thursday, he had tweeted a link to updated twitter rules & said that accounts engaged in parody must include parody in their name, not just in bio -while twitter blue is being paused, existing users will still have access to the subscription features, the internal twitter note said -in 1 example of abuse, an account with a blue check mark pretending to belong to arizona gubernatorial candiate kari lake tweeted i have won. i decided it so it is truth on thursday -but the account, with the hand @therealkarilake is not the candiates official account & the race for arizonas next governer remains too early to be called lake, the republican candidate is locked in a close race with democrat katie hobbs -users can click on a blue check mark & learn whether an account paid to be verfied or was part of twitters legacy program, but its otherwise difficult to distinguish, the post also found that there appeared to be a bug in the pop-ups that describe the blue check marks sometimes showing accounts as notable when they were instead paid -there appear to be other bugs with the new service the fake lake account was showing up with a blue check mark for some users but not others -the fake accounts for james, bush & eli lilly were suspended, but some impersonation accounts with blue check marks for other companies & prominent figures remained online as of friday morning -in addition, the company said in its internal note that it would add a grat official label to advertisers accounts -earlier this week, the company appeared to be rolling out that second label to indicate if accounts are official but quickly rolled it back -musk tweeted on wednesday he had killed it & a twitter executive clairifed that the comapny was focusing on using the badges for government & commericial entities instead of individuals -apart from it being an aesthetic nightmare when looking at the twitter feed it is is simply another way of creating a two class syetm, musk said during the twitter spaces on wednesday it wasent addressing the core problem of there are too many entities that would be considered official or have legacy blue check marks -the account impersonations would cause further rifts between brands who advertise on twitter & the company some stock prices of affected companies sank of friday, though it was unclear the drops were tied to the fake tweets -even real, official accounts took note of the chaos friday on twitter. the official account for washington states department of natural resources tweeted, update: the twitter wildfire is at 44 billion acres & 0% conatined

twitter calls around 50% of its staff as part of elon musks reformation plan

-elon musk held true to his word on staff cuts at twitter, with the company eliminating, reportedly around 50% of its entire workforce, as it works to rationalize the business -the twitter transition team informed staff that they would recieve an email today that would let them know whether they still have a job or not. and while there are no official numbers as yet, internal managers have pegged the cull at around 50% of staff, with many long-serving expierenced tweeps bidding farewell via tweet -news of the coming staff cull first broke at around 8pm ET wednesday, with leaked internal conversations & notes suggesting that twitters transition management team would be looking to cut around hald of the companies 7,500 roles in order to reduce costs, as part of a broader effort to return the company to profitability -musk repeatedly highlighted the potential of job cuts in his presentations to potential investment partners, as he sought funding for his twitter acquisition. one document that he showed to potential investors back in may. noted that musk would cut around 1,000 staff on day of his takeover at the app. musk did not also note that twitter would eventually look to bring in more staff once again, adding back over 2,700 employees by 2025, in line with platform growth -its a sad day for the app, espically for staff that have been busting their asses this week in a bid to impress their new owner, in the hopes of saving their jobs

elon musk launches hostile takeover bid for twitter

-following the revelation that musk had become twitters biggest individual shareholder earlier in the month, musk began polling his twitter followers on questions about how to 'fix' the platform -as per musk note to the SECL -"I invested in twitter as i believe in its potential to be the platform for free speech around the globe, and i believe free speech is a societal imperative for a functioning democracry. however, since making my investment i now realize the company will neither thrive nor serve this societal imperative in its current form" -musk was advised to stop tweeting critical commentary, as a pending twitter board member, which then lead to musk declining the offer to join the board entirely -musk is now outlining a vague plan to take twitter into private ownership, in order to reduce its reliance on shareholders and ad dollars, thereby enabling it to make truely independent decisions for the good of public debate -"i am offering to buy 100% of twitter of $54.20 per share in cash, a 54% premium over the day before i began investment in twitter and a 38% premium over the day before my investment was publicly announced. my offer is my best & final offer if it is not accepted, i would need to reconsider my position as a shareholder"

emotional & physical constraints on sports

-hello fellow athletes & spectators out there! along with my blog you will find this post on instagram which you can follow to a direct link to my blog to connect with others who may be commenting on this post. instagram is a great visual outlet for this particular post as i want my viewers to see first hand the struggles athletes are faced with. i hope you can sit on the bench to chat with me on my blog & form some connections with others on the sidelines! sports are suppossed to evoke happiness & joy bringing fellow athletes & spectators together. all bonding over something they love however, what we dont always realize is the emotional & physical turmoil sports can take on athletes physical & mental health -i have been a cheerleader for as long as i can remember. i began my journey as a school & recreational cheerleader & then began to cheer at a competitive level. this is when cheer went downhill for me. the sport i had always known & loved & suddenly was no longer enjoyable but became stressful & all about winning. the reason i started cheering was the positive energy it brought into my life. as time went on, i realized it wasent fun to get constantly yelled at by my coaches to do better or to toughen up & push through my injuries that have left me with permanent damage -i was often threatened by my coaches that my position would be taken away from me if i did not step it up. this left me feeling insecure & defeated. i am now a college cheerleader, which is a club sport at the school i attend & it brings me that nostalgic feeling that i used to expierence before becoming a competitive cheerleader. however, some high school & college athletes face a huge amount of stress & pressure from their families & coaches to be the very best they can be even if their best is not good enough. it was a moment where i couldent take it anymore, the former USC mens basketball star said during a panal discussion on college athlete mental health. i couldent hide behind my shield anymore. i just came out & expressed it, hoping someone could relate & make me feel better. we reach our breaking point & cant take the constant belittling & unrealistically high expectations that emotionally & physically cause us pain. participation in sports should be a part of ones life but not define ones life & goals. it is meant to be fun, enjoyable, & bring positive energy into an athletes life.

LGBTQ in sports

-i will share this via wattpadd which is a social media site that encourages users to share their own stories, just like i want my viewers to do if they can personally relate to this topic or know of someone who does. this is their chance to tell their story & share it in a safe space with no judgements -within the LGBTQ community there are lots of judgements, backlash, ridicule & making fun of these individuals for being comftorable with their own sexuality. this type of treatment happens everywhere but even more often in sports. going back to gender streotypes in sports, if an individual is a transgender & going into a sport that heavily involves one gender or another. the individual may feel excluded & isolated from everyone else. recently, states around the u.s. have been banning female transgenders to individuals who were born males & later became a female from participating in girls sports at public schools "nine states have enacted laws that bar or limit transgender women & girls from participatng in female sports & south dakots governer signed a similar executive order. some of the bans have been halted by courts in ongoing litigation - as in school districts & even on college campuses, specific sports have a gender label on them like womens, volleyball compared to mens volleyball, womens soccer versus mens soccer & womens tennis versus mens tennis are just a few of the examples that i can come up with off the top of my head. there are some sports however that are gender inclusive like golf, bowling, & cheerleading where players are not seperated by gender & can all perform together. as the community already suffers from difficulties of confidence in fear of being judged by others, this makes the situation even worse for specifically transgenders as it was hard to finally be accepted by themselves in their own skin & now they are prevented from participating in sports on a womens team because of it. simialar to the gay community as gay men who want to be involved in a male dominated sport like football, for example can face even more bullying as they are looked at as weak compared to others even if they are at the same skill level as everyone else. just because one is gay, that dosent reflect on their athletic performance -social media has taken this stigma to a whole new level as there are memes out there poking fun at gay individuals involved with sports with other men or women on their team & it is ultimately looked down upon & laughed at. that is why it is so hard for individuals to come out with their sexuality & come to terms of it, espcially if they are athletes because of the cruetly they are faced with if they do

uncovered communities

-in 2022, tiktok continued to bring together people from all over the world with common interests & curiosities. whether your interested in, whether its farmtok or careertok, you can find your own community & make authentic connections on tiktok. in the u.s. its no suprise that booktok continued to grow in popularity, but so did smaller communities like crocheters of tiktok & museumtok. here are some of this years favorite communities united states 1) booktok 2) cartok 3) filmtok/movietok 4) small business tiktok 5) sustainability tiktok 6) farm tok 7) national park tiktok 8) crocheters of tiktok 9) museumtok 10) woodstock

writters legal team acts to force musk into completing the acquistion deal

-in response to elon musks most recent decision to terminate his $44 billion takeover offer for the app, twitter has officially launched legal action to counter musks efforts -according to musk, twitter failed to provide him & his tea, with adequete data to prove its usage claims & other siginificant elements. but twitter has now responded saying that musk cant exit the deal, due to recent actions & public disclosures in which musk acted in violation of the original agreement

step 2: pick a domain name, & choose a web hosting

-in this step, your basically creating a home for your blog-giving it to a place to live on the internet -there are two mini steps to this: -1) pick a web hosting service: first things first you need to find "internet real estate" for your website. this requires choosing a web host. your host will provide the storage, bandwidth anf speed to keep your website alive & well, there are a number of hosting options out there, & they all essentially do the same thing. for the sake simplicity, were going to focus on one of the most well-known services: blue host, we recommended bluehost, because its straightforward & offers a great customer service, plus its pretty affordable. its basic package starts at $2.95 a month. this includes a single website, a free domain for a year & 50GB of website space. this should be plenty of space to get you off the ground & running; however, feel free take a look at its other options: if you want to get that premium $2.95 monthly rate, youll have to commit 36 months. in all, that comes out to less than $120 not bad for three years -if youre not quite ready to sign up & pay for hosting service, you can also start a blog for free through a platform like wordpress.com or blogger. once you can get the hang of it, you can retroactively sign up for hosting, which will allow you to better monetize your blog -once you make your selection, its time to choose your sites domain -2) choose your web site address: your domain name (or web address) is like your street address. it helps readers find your website -the sites domain name should reflect the content of your blog & be easy enough for people to remember- & spell correctly -but heres when it gets tricky: just like a street address, your domain name must be unique. if you want to see whether your drea domain name is available, use this domain name checker from blue host. -if the domain name you want isnt available, bluehost will offer similar alternatives. you can also change.com to .net for example, but remember people are using to typing .com deviating from the norm might throw them off -also, you can change your domain name later on; however its best for your bramd recognition to stick to one -once you secure your unique domain name, youll continue on, creating a bluehost account & paying for the hosting -bluehost will ask if you want to purchase a ton of add-ns to your package. we dont think any of these are absolutely necessary, but you might want to consider privacy protection. its less than $1 a month, and itll keep your contact information private. note, through savvy searchers will know how to check this information, and if its annonymous, it could hurt your credibility

musk reissues original twitter offer in bid to avoid court battle

-it looks like elon musk is going to take over twitter after all -fresh off of outlining his solution for the russia-ukraine crisis, via of course tweet, then complaining, once again, about how the platform is riddled with bots, the billionare has reportedly sent a letter to twitter management proposing that they avoid the coming courtroom battle over his attempt to pull out of his takeover deal, and that twitter accept his offer, at the original, agreed price of $54.20 per share -musk has reportedly offered to end all litigation and avoid a messy courtroom drama, by going back to his original plan, which would see musk become tweeter-in-chief, and end months of public back-and-forth between the two parties

twitter seeks first win in legal case against elon musk

-its now up to the court to decide whether musk can exit $44 billion deal with twitter -the most recent update shows delawares court of chancery ruling in twitters favor for an expedited trail in the musk acquisition case, with musk & co given just five days to present their argument as to why musk should be allowed to pull out of the deal -the case has been scheduled for october, although musks legal team had sought to extend the length of the trial, arguing that it needs more time to review the data required, and that twitter is seeking to obfuscate its figures on fake & spam accounts by expediting the timeline, which musks team says is the key reason for pulling out of the deal

what should you post

youtube celebrities: a new marketing tool?

-this nonprofit video marketing case study should be an example for other charitable organizations looking to make an impact. by using youtube celebrities rather than a-listers, the red cross was able to tap into these content creators own channels and their build in audiences. other videos would have has a much heftier promotional budget which would have significantly increased the cost of the campaign -in the united states, the obama administration used a similar tactic to promote the healthcare.gov website as the open enrollement deadlines drew near. they needed young people to sign up in order to make the model affordable across the board. and they tapped a variety of youtube celebrities to deliver the message to millenials.

musk cuts staff, de-lists twitter from the stock exchange on day 1 as chief

-so elon musk is now the 'chief twit' he says, with the billionaire taking ownership of the platform late thursday, and for now at least, appointing himself as interim CEO. whether he stays on as chief, or appoints somebody else to the role, remains to be seen, but thus far, it does appear as though musk plans to take a hands on role in re-alligning the app in his vision -musks first order of business was to fire several top execs. the loss of so mucj expierence will hurt the company, no doubt. but mask has an alternative view on what twitter should be, so they were unlikely to ever see eye-to-eye anyway. and the departing execs, will take home millions in payouts, which should soften the blow, before theyre re-appointed at another tech firm in similar roles -musks second key order of business is to take twitter private. thus, twitter will no lomger be a listed entity, and will no lomger have to provide performance updates. some details will still be available, but they wont be officially reported every quarter -delisting will also see the dissolution of twitters current board of directors, with musk to appoint a new board at some stage. who he appoints here could also point to his future plans, which, again, remain relatively vague, outside of a few key hints -to recap, musk has said, or at least implied, that his priorities will be: eliminating bots, expanding the rules around what users can say in the app (within the law), open sourcing feed algorithms, increasing paying subscribers

rethinking our relationship with social media

-somewhere good merges compassion with social media in a way that i havent really seen done before & really just illuminates how we can build community in a way that is productive & centered with love, said jasmine lewis a 20 year old college student in tuscaloosa alabama who joined the waitlist upon the apps launch. lewis is among the first 10 world builders on somewhere good & the creator of griot galaxy. what sets it apart from twitter & other social media platforms is that instead of just doom scrolling & going through whats happening in the world, the devastation & the gossip, & all the determinants of social media that really stray us away from harnessing that compasssion as human beings, somewhere good gravitates towards compassion & conversation that is profound she said -she mimics the sentiments of brianna patrice, creator of twenty nine thirty, a world focused on connecting the dots between sensuality, sexuality, healing & wellness anytime i get off instagram or twitter i feel worse than i did before i logged on, whereas somewhere good had the opposite effect. i leave a conversation feeling fed. patrice is not alone in that feeling. studies have found that social media use can lead to negetive mental health consequences like lower life satisfaction, social comparison, & poor self esteem. aditionally, research has linked social media use to sleep deprivation, anxiety & depression. as lewis said: stepping into this dynamic of where a lot of us are rethinking our relationship with social media platforms, we definetly need to embrace more platforms that are centered within solidarity instead of so much division & provoking us to be more thoughtful human beings

new insights highlight the best times to post on facebook & twitter in 2022

-these advice guides are always somewhat controversial, and yes, there are many factors and elements that can play into this data which would impact the performance relative to your own brand -but in general terms, they can help and this week, sprout social has published its latest insights, into the best times to post on facebook and twitter based on performance insights from sprouts 30k+ customer base -again, this is not perscriptive this is not to say that all brands, definetively, will see optional performance if they post all these times (worth nothing, too that the times listed at all CST, though they would be relative to your local time zone) but if you were looking to change up your posting process to improve performance, or maybe map out a more effective startegy, these times, based on current engagement trends, could be a good place to start -first off, facebook according to sprouts data, the best time to post your latest update to facebook is 3am, monday to friday -first off, at 3am theres likely a lot fewer people posting, which means less competition in the feed. that could mean that you get some early engagement which then helps to improve the reach of your post, and by say 9am, when more people are online, that early response could then help to ensure that your content is then shown to even more people -sprout also notes that the times are listed in CST, and 3am CST is also: 9am british standard time, 10am central european time, 6pm australian eastern standard time so because your looking at global engagement, you also need to factor in regional variability its not just people in your time zone that your reaching depending on sprouts user base, that could be a siginificant factor, so its worth also analyzing who your reaching, geographically within your facebook insights but as you can see in the chart, 3am monday to friday, sees better engagement, while tuesdays at 10am and noon also drives good response -sprout further notes that the worst day to post on facebook, in terms of engagement, is saturday with sunday not looking much better -worth factoring into your expierments -on twitter, sprouts engagement data suggets that the best time to post is 9am on monday, tuesday, wednesday, friday & saturday -it seems that people are more inclined to log into twitter at 9am in order to catch up with the news of the day except on thursdays, when everyones, i guess, looking forward to the weekend instead? -the data likey reflects the real time nature of the tweet feed, and how people use the app to keep up with the latest developments, which could be worth factoring into your planning -sprout says that the best days to post to twitter are tuesdays & wednesdays with sundays being the worst for tweet engagement -overall, the data provides some interesting pointers for your own expierements. but again, this is not prespective, there are many factors as noted that are relative to your audience, and how your community engages with your content -but it may get you thinking about your posting approach, which could highlight new oppurtunities -sprout has also published industry-specific breakdowns in full overviews of facebook & twitter engagement insights

sports through a pandemic

-this post will be shared via linked, to encourage users to post how the pandemic affected their lives & perhaps find other stories regarding the pandemic. i can also compare & contrast my story with others -recently, we have gone through a worldwide crisis. the corona-virus pandemic which rapidly was spreading from human to human contact. this caused citizens everywhere to quarentine for months on end, having to stay indoors & avoid people outside of their immediate family. everyday lives were changed with others suddenly became exclusively all online through various social media platforms & instamt messaging using smartphones. all in-person interactions ceased & people were left indoors having to put life as they knew it on pause & live in this new virtual reality world. in order to perform sports in person, team training is a neccessity for most of them & are a requirement -cheerleading is a sport that physically cannot be done virtually. the stunts in cheerleading require holding up other teammates which is something needed to be judged from watching the athletes perform in a gym or sports arena. the competition needed to be judged from watching the athletes perform in a gym or sports arena. new innovative ways enabled watching the athletes perform in a gym or sports arena. new innovative ways enabled athletes to continue to still perform their sports, like cheerleading practices being held on zoom for group stretch sessions. when quarentine restrictions were lifted, social gatherings were resumed with face coverings. cheerleaders would perform with their masks & send their competition routines to be judged at virtual competitions -not all sports however were still able to practice & perform as a team causing dedicated athletes mental distress. the mental constraint of the pandemic hit athletes hard between taking classes remotely, training individually & news of season cancellations. college athletes, specifically had the most difficulties "as in spring elevated rates of mental exhaustion, anxiety, hopelessness & feelings of being depressed were reported in the fall survey. mental health concerns remained highest among demographic subgroups typically displaying higher rated of mental distress (women, student athletes of color, those in the queer spectrum, those living alone or away from campus & those from campus & those reporting family economic hardship" -it was particular devastating for those student athletes attending a college/university to play a sport & not being able to participate. ultimately, depending on their grade, they may have lost out on up to four yers or collegiate sports participation that they will never be able to recover

-twitter in thursday night pressed pause on elon musks first major product launch a paid for blue checkmark after misinformation flooded the site -twitter rolled out twitter blue on wednesday, letting users who provided an apple id & a phoen number pay $7.99 a month to attain verification. previosuly, that badge was only available to people when the company had verified their identity, often public figures & brands -almost immediately users started taking advantage of the new tool. accounts were created impersonating politicans including president biden & celebrities as well as other notable people. several also surfaced purpoting to be brands, announcing fake news -twitter temporailrly disabled sign ups for the new service thursday night, according to a internal note viewed by the washington post to help address impersonation issues -but in several cases, the damage was already done & some fake accounts were still active as of friday -on friday afternoon sen edward j markey (d-mass) sent a letter to musk already several questions about the blue check mark subscription program. a washingtons post columinist set up ab account impersonating markey this week with the senators permission & paid for a blue check mark -apparently due to twitters lax vertification practies & apparent need for cash anyone could pay $8.00 & impersonate someone on your platform, markey wrote. selling the truth is dangerous & unacceptable -on wednesday, a fake account purpoting to be basketball star lebron james falsely tweeted that the athlete was requesting a trade. another fake account with a blue check mark pretending to be former president george w bush tweeted i miss kissing iraqis -& a post from a fake account pretending to be a pharmacuetical giant eli lilly was shared 3,000 times & remained online for several hours thursday afternoon. the tweet read; we are excited to announce insulin is free now on eli lilly spokesperson told the post on thursday they are in communication with twitter to address the issue -the decision to pause a signature new product under musk the worlds richest man who is also a twitter super user marks two weeks of chaos under the new ownership. musk who already counts himself as ceo of companies including tesla & space x has moved quickly to implement changes & had had to backtrack multiple times in recent days -last week, musk laid off roughly half of twitters 7,500 staff members, raising concerns about the companies ability to police misinformation & other harmful content on site. over the weekend, the company tried to hire some of them back -civil rights groups called on advertisers to suspent their campaigns on twitter, & many have. additionally a string of executives have left the company including & perhaps most notably the companies head of content moderation, who participated in a twitter spaces public meeting with musk & advertisers on wednesdsy -musk also ordered staffers to return to the office, reversing a policy at the tech company that all workers could remain remote & making more departures likely -during a meeting, with employees held shortly after the return to the office policy was announced a worker asked musk if the company had a specific focus for the next few months -we just defintely need to bring in more cash than we spend, musk answered, according to a transcript of the meeting published by the verge. if we dont do that & theres a massive negetive cash flow, then bankruptcy is not out of the question, that is a priority. we cant scale to 1 billion users & take massive losses along the way -twitter musk is musks first major product change. the intial rollout of the overhauled verification system was dialed back as musk expressed concern over its design -inside twitter, workers scrambled to address the problems unleased by the launch -twitter has a risk of evaluation process, however, because of the expedited timeline, & it didnt make key upgrades equipping the content moderation side to flag problems, according to three people familiar with the process, who spoke on the condition of annonymity to cadidy describe the matter -the risk of evaluation team was laid off, one of the people said leading to a frenzy of last minute defenses. following the launch, there were major bugs with tools that slowed down or prevented moderation -a key problem, the people said, was twitter internal staffs inability to immediately distinguish marks from those of official accounts that had been given them under the legacy verification system. that stemmed from a lack of compatibility between the new twitter blue system & twitters moderation tools, the people said

trayvon martin how social media became protest: beyonce, rihanna, diddy & amber rose weighed in throughout the case from martins death to zimmermans acquittal

-twitter was practically groaning saturday under the weight of a sea of protests from the likes of nicki minaj & miley cyrus after a florida jury found george zimmerman not guilty in the shooting death of trayvon martin last febuary. these tweets scattered with hashtags like #nojustice & #riptrayvonmartin, where just a small part of a massive social media protest between the 17 year old high school students shooting & zimmermans "not guilty" verdict -in febuary 2012, trayvon martin was found shot & killed, george zimmerman standing over his body holding a handgun. martin was unarmed, weilding only a bottle of iced tea & a bag of skittles. zimmerman said he shot martin in self defense & walked away from the scene. he was later arrested on april 11 & charged with second degree murder in the shooting after months of protests -these protests, to a large degree, were created online first with a petition posted to change.org by martins family. that petition made on march 8, saw support from the likes of janelle monae & mc hammer who both urged people to sign. the petition soon became the fastest growing campaign in the sites history, netting 250,000 sigantures in its first few days. it got 2,278,988 signatures total -the meantime, other soial protests started to bubble, starting with a million hoodies, a campaign & march headed up bu digital strategist daniel maree that also had ties to the change.org petition -the big impetus for million hoodies for me was reading about the taryvon martin case & noticing that there was no national news coverage of the story, noticing that there was national news coverage of the story, noticing that the police hadnt arrested george zimmerman & feeling that i have been in that situation before, maree told MTV News. i spent two years in gainesville, florida as a high schooler & i personally had expierences walking homw from school sometimes. i would get stopped by the police for no reason other than i was an african american in a predominantly white neighborhood -maree said that the hoodie piece of the story struck him espcially, citing expierences hes had in new york city as an adult where people have acted paranoid around him when he wears that article of clothing, i saw myself in trayvin martin, he said. i saw my little sister, i saw my cousin i saw my brother -a million hoodies was a two pronged attack: first culminating in a million hoodie piece of the story struck him espcially, citing expierences walking home from school sometimes. i would get stopped by the police for no reason other than i was an african american in a prediminately white neighborhood -maree said that the hoodie piece of the story him espically, citing expierencies hes had in new york city as an adult where people have acted paranoid around him when he wears that article of clothing. i saw myself in trayvon martin he said i saw my little sister i saw my cousin i saw my brother -a million hoodies was a two pronged attack: first culminating in a million hoodie march in new york on march 21, 2012 as well a series of other marches across the country & second online, where people were encouraged to post snaps & of themselves wearing hoodies. the call to action was embraced by the likes of diddy & nelly -the movement, often hashtagged #wearetrayvonmartin, quickly spread throughout the web with everyone from lebron james & the miami heat to new york lawmakers donning hoodies in support of martin -the spread of the meme was a domino effect, according to maree. "micheal skolnick, who is russel simmons political director, was instrumental in getting celebrities to support this cause he said he was the person who tweeted & talked to gabrielle union who then talked to dwayne wade, who then talked to lebron james, who then talked to the miami heat -president obama also made vague reference to the #wearetrayvonmartin meme during a white house press coference in late march 2012, saying: if i had a son, he would like trayvon & i think they are right to expect that all of us as americans are going to take this with the seriousness that it deserves & were going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened -although maree said that a number of things led to zimmermans arrest, he does arrest that million hoodies certianly played a critical role in getting zimmerman arrested citing pew research center research that shows social media attention to the case of climbing after protest efforts began -as the trial, which kicked off in june 2013 wound to a close, yet another movement was launched via avatars & twitter feeds, this time featuring hashtags like #blackout4trayvon & #justicefortrayvon. those using the #blackout hashtag close to share inky black photos on social networks, a trend that was taken up by rihanna, kevin hart, beyonce, ghostface kilah, diddy & amber rose

former twitter security chief access the company of misleading behavior around bots, data security & more

-twitters nightmare 2022 continues to get worse, with former security advisor peter zatko, also known as 'mudge' leveling a range of allegations against his former employer, including the suggestion that twitter executives decieved federal regulators, delibertely mislead the companies own board, and in a more immediately pressing element, lied about the presence of bots & spam on the service

as the future of twitter becomes uncertain, many users are going somewhere good, the design of having a conversation with someone on somewhere good internationally looks like a weaving path, which is made to incrite the feeling of taking a walk with someone on the internet

-upon elon musks purchase of twitter, several users are leaving the platform -somewhere good is a social media app focused on fostering community & cultivating connection -the platform was created as a safe space specifically for POC & queer communities & goes against media norms no profile, no feed, no likes, & no followers -under elon musks leadership, twitter one of the most popular social media platforms in america could look a lot of different in the coming weeks. a monthly subscription of $8 for verified accounts, an up tick in hate speech & the return of banned accounts are among several of the changes that already have & could occur under new guidelines. many users have shared their concerns online, while some celebrities, like sara bareilles & shonda rhimes, have already left the app. in the mindst of what some see as a chaotic storm, some social media users are finding calm on somewhere good. -somewhere good feels fresh & different from social media platforms. when you first breath, creating a whimsical & relaxing feeling upon entry. there are no likes, no followers, & no profiles beyond the very basic identifiers: name, pronouns, location & a photo. there also isnt a feed to scroll through. it was an intentional product & design decision to remove that from our platform, says annika hansteen-izora, head of design at somewhere good. we found that those numbers, which have become the standardized way of navigating the internet, dont lend themselves to supporting people in creating meaningful connections in their lives -launched in april for 1os with plans to expand to android soon, somewhere good is a voice note platform for community conversations the key word being community. the app consists of worlds, or essentially voice note chat rooms, where a new prompt is released daily. users can respond to these topics through recording voice notes -weve seen a huge uptick of notable people whove expressed not wanting to be on twitter anymore & wanting to be intentional about how they commune & connect with their community online. somewhere good has offered them a space for that said naj austin, founder & ceo of the platform. to date, the app has recieved over 10,000 downloads

Keys to good writing

-use short sentences -use short words -avoid wordiness -eliminate jargon -get to the point quickly

safety first

-user research respondents also reported being choosy about where they spend their time & preferring private spaces & private chats with friends are opposed to public spheres that arent very insulated or protected. most platforms think about safety last or definetly not first. we were thinking about it before we ever wrote a line of code or designed what the platform would even look like said austin. the app is also invite code protected, meaning users are likely to join by words of mouth. this is to ensure that were growing with intention & not just for scale, not just getting to a million users, but being thoughtful about who those users are austin said. nothing that there is an invite code clue on the app & somewhere good will provide the invite codes to anyone who asks -the most visited worlds within somewhere good include griot galaxy, where users indulge in conversations about the power of storytelling, dont get me ta lyin, which is comparable to the comedy series wild n out but for book discussion & invisibilia NPR a space where folks can discuss the hidden forces of life. anyone can create a world, & set the world to away whenever they want to spend time offline, when austin says is to allow users a break from their iphone. because there is no algorithm that pushes highly visted accounts of worlds to the top, no one is popular or unpopular on somewhere good no one takes the main stage. everyone can engage in conversation or worlds equally

lessons from HONY (so far)

-we are all human -we all have a story -we post fake relatities -he (brandon stanton) gives voices to people who might not usually have one -it appeals to visual learners and readers (we can visualize it)

evaluate a sites accuracy, ask yourself:

-who wrote the page and can you contact him or her? -what is the purpose of the document and why was it produced? -is this person qualified to write this document? you need to: -make sure author provides e-mail or a contact address/phone number -know the distinction between author and webmaster

before writing their lead, online writers should ask themselves a few questions chap 5 pg 116

-why valuable? is this story valuable to readers because of its immediacy or because of its in-depth & relatively timeless account of a subject in which people will be interested for some time to come? -what seo? what are the key search terms most likely to be used by people interested in my story?

purpose of lead "a lead needs to establish relevance for readers, such as college students" pg 96 chap 5

-writers whether for newspapers, websites, television stations, blogs or magazines have to structure their leads to suit their audiences" -it all comes down to the audience's automatic question, "how does this message affect me" the audience immediately looks for an explanation. sometimes stories or messages don't have the simple, personal component. then writers must look beyond the "what about me"

online writing the seo impact chap 5 pgs 114-115

-writers who work for online publications can increase the chances of their work being found on the internet by considering a technique called search engine optimization" -online writers, therefore, should make an effort to use in their leads keywords & phrases that potential readers, might use in a search"

consider your connections

-you can be selective -begin with your own contacts -review profiled before connecting -connect within groups -watch out for trolls -follow influencers and industry leaders

in crafting messages, writers focus on the point, the hook, the lead, & the copy (pg 94) chap 5

-you must know why you are writing, main point of message, to hook audience -content/message must have substance -identify the key benefit, the point -the point is crucial information that justifies creating a message in the first place: a bill is passed. middle-income residents will break on state income tax rates -the hook is an enticing opening phrase or sentence that draws audiences into a message. you might soon see more money in your paycheck -the lead is the opneing few sentences of a mesia message. typically, it contains the hook & the point. state residents who earn less than 75,000 a year will take home in their paychecks starting in January, thanks to a new law dramatically changes the state income tax rate applied to middle-income earners -the copy is the entire body of a media message, including a lead & all supporting information, such as new facts, background, quotes & statistics

your contact page

-your readers are going to want to reach out to you. maybe they have a question, or want to suggest a story idea or recruit you to write a guest post. make sure that easy on them by setting up a "contact me" page -include your email address and how to find you on social platforms. if you dont want to hand out your personal email address, you can create another one specifically for your blog -you can also install a contact from plugin. this allows readers out to reach out without nabbing your personal information. plus, all inquiries go staright in your primary email account, so you dont have to juggle multiples

track your analytics

-youre going to want to get a better understanding of whats working & what isnt working on your blog, so take a look at your numbers with a free analytics tool, such as google analytics -fill out some basic information about your website & google analytics will give you whats called a tracking code. paste this into your websites pages & posts & google will start tracking your visitors -we suggest paying attention to the source of traffic (social media, direct , google etc) the number of pageviews & the time spent on the page. if, for example, a page has a high number of views but folks arent sticking around, maybe your headline is working but your article is not -over time, this information can help you tailor content to your readers needs & interests

around the world

1) @ox_zung the stitch expert shares tricks that made us gasp 2) @rosalia rosalia shows us all how to slay 3) @lav_sings wows us with her #desitok singing skills 4) @roberttirwin the aussie controvationist rescuses a baby blue tongued lizard in the outback 5) @thammachad an iconic thai creator recieves an award in all their glory

creating engaging content

1) add an engaging title: when searching for articles/blogs online, users often only see a title and thats what they will click on in order to read further 2) consider SEO (search engine optimization): translation use keywords in title and body copy, whenever possible. keywords are the actual words or phrases that a person would use when searching for your content within search engines 3) make the content more attractive: you can underline words that you would hyperlink to additional information (company names, organizations, proper names, keyfacts/phrases) you can invite your follower to participate in the conversation via a comment at the end (have you worked in any of these fields? what was your expierence? you can include additional links to more information at the end 4) use shorter paragraphs: considered smaller "chunks" of copy to make it easier on the reader who may be scrolling through your blog copy on his/her their cell phone. consider adding subheads, short sub headings above paragraphs that cue readers in to whats next. they can also be useful in helping your reader to navigate through your blog 5) consider adding tags: ideally tags are a feature used in blogs that also help prospective readers/users to find your content; they may be keywords or general words (fitness, cooking, fashion) that you can add to compliment your copy 6) remember to use a more conversational tone with your social media followers. write as if you were sharing something with a friend instead of writing a research paper. this will help you to develop and cultivate your writers voice online

ten dragonfly insights

1) be personable & tell powerful stories: be relatable, authentic, and genuine and tell personal stories that connect with your audience. people forget facts, but they never forget a good story 2) use design thinking: dont get caught up in a traditional ways of problem solving: think outside the box & remember to always design your campaign with your audience in mind 3) iterate, iterate, iterate: "we have a strategic plan" said southwestern airlines CEO herb kellecher "its called doing things". always err on the side of action you will learn more actively doing than by getting stuck in the "idea phase" 4) use social media to your advantage: use social media platforms as away to communicate your message and reach your audience directly. unlike traditional media which targets users with a brand, social media is about having a conversation. (for some tips, check out our list for engaging people on facebook & twitter) 5) stay focused on your goal (focus + GET- use the dragonfly model): outline what your focused goal is & always work towards it. use the model-focus, grab attention, engage & take action- to follow through from having just a seed of an idea to a full-fledged cause 6) create a ripple effect: social networks are a powerful way to spread a message quickly and effciently. utilize emotional contagion and find "influencers in your networks. build your campaign in a way so that others can build on it as well" 7) ask for time, than money: research shows that people are more likely to donate money after you first ask for their time. be strategic about not only who you ask, but what you ask for. read more about the time-ask effect on your research page 8) engineer virality: create a clear, powerful message and make it easy to share. always ask yourself "if i recoeved this, would i be engaged and compelled to share it with others?" if not go back & start again until you come up with something truely sharable 9) isolate a "stinky" idea of a story that represents your cause: create STAR moments (something to always remember) an easy take away message for your cause that sticks in peoples minds 10) spread happiness: the dragonfly effect arose out of the idea that small acts can create big, positive changes in the world. prosocial actions make people's lives feel more meaningful, fulfilling, & happy so focus, grab attention, engage others & take action and start doing your part to spread more happiness

lessons from editing & layering exercise

1) focus on economy of words: you have a range for the charecter on word count, but try to keep your copy at the lower end of that range (remember the six word story?) 2) write to an audience your peers for example: have a specific person or group in mind when you write and "talk to them on a paper 3) you should give it a personal style & tone: relate the information in a way that is both entertaining & informative. write with personality 4) consider the visual element also: we know that communication across social media involves as much of a visual as as written expierence. what type of picture of video would go best with this post? (its okay if you dont include one this time) at least consider what work would work best 5) use contractions for an informal voice: we speak much less formally than we write, & contractions are part of the way in which we sound more controversial. so unlike more formal papers & reports, your social media posts can use contradictions (its instead of it is) 6) link to your sources: using hyperlinks within your posts/articles can serve as a way of citing your sources. they will show your user the origin of the information you are sharing 7) submit final published copy: you have written the three posts, go back & read them out loud. edit & edit again (remember the 7 steps of the writing process)

7 Stages of Writing Process

1) information gathering, immersion in the subject, using the 5 w's and 1 h (who? what? where? when? how? + how much?) -conduct interviews -begin library & online research -supplement with other sources (brochures, archives) -take careful notes & cite all sources for accuracy when information is needed/used 2) thinking & planning -begin studying notes & deciding upon angle/focus for story or content -continue filling in any gaps in research, answering additional questions -think about a plan of action once angle/focus is decided, such as where to begin 3) listing-bringing order/organization to info - compile a list of facts & ideas that will be important to communicating clearly to audience (key works/phrases, detailed outline, key points) in a way that works -begin to review & rank information (top three priority items) 4) writing the message as you would tell -begin with first & most important element to be communicated (see list stage 3) -use conversational speech/tone, as if sharing with a friend -make any updates needed and this results in first draft 5) rewriting 6) sharing -show a reader, get feedback 7) polishing -checking over mechanical elements (grammar, punctuation etc) -ensure accuracy & clarity such as proper spelling of names & places mentioned

expectations of web surfers

1) speed 2) visual logic: can quickly and easily figure out what the sites about, what it contains & who produced it 3) simple organizational navigation: well organized; infos presented in logical layers with ease of navigation 4) depth: has enough info. for visitors & access & use 5) news: features constantly new & updated info (garners return visits)

the three I's: think beyond the post

1) the impact: (to have a direct effect on) consider how your choices, in terms of coverage & reach, can have an effect on the smaller & larger community. Coverage is just what you choose to highlight or focus upon at any given time. Make sure that youve provided full context and looked at both sides. on a positive note, consider some of the case studies & we will review. humans of new york, for example chose to cover regular people and the result was extraordinary impact & even change (raising money for a school) reach is the number of people and lives you can impact via posts or larger campaigns. weve also seen that in the examples of sameer and vinay whos campaigns helped to improve the bone marrow registry, attracting tens of thousands of new donors 2) the (possible future effect or result) when your working for another company as an intern or employee, think in a different way about the content that you post. what could be the short and long term implications of the content once it posted? make sure that it is approved and consider whether it will reflect negatively upon the company or another entity across social meds. Just as importantly, ensure that it reflects well upon you as the poster (that also goes for private posts) for example, someone asks you to misrepresent a competitor. thats a moral dilemma. it will ultimately make you look bad. will it negatively affect your future career pursuits as well? it could 3) the innovation: (the introduction of something new) research, find and implement new technology when it comes to your platforms, social media options and posts. those simple steps can take you far

tiktok taught me

on tiktok, we all learned a thing or two this year, as our community discovered new recipies, beauty & wellness routines, along with some handy life hacks along the way. tiktok taught us ways to be inclusive of deaf culture, while also showing us how to best pose with our short kings. here are some of the popular trends & tutorials that taught us what we needed to know this year united states 1) @oursignedworld how to get attention of someone who is hard of hearing 2) @cookingwithlynja how to make three types of grilled cheese 3) @brunchwithbabs how to easily carve a pumpkin 4) @getaheadwithnick how to nap like a navy seal 5) @davidsuh how to pose with short kings 6) @charlesgross how to keep your lips moist with olive oil 7) @lizzardbird how to bind a book 8) gavinflo how to stop slicing golf balls on the golf course 9) @rob_skate4life how to do a varial on a skateboard 10) @tiasaundaa how to contour with powder around the world 1) @efritaasmr anyone up for a corn dog? 2) @oursignedworld a daughter learning how to get her deaf fathers attention warms our hearts 3) @shinanova learning how to communicate through inuit facial expressions with shina & her mom @kayuula 4) @satisfcapybaraying_pottery fitting a capybara into a ceramic mug 5) @mirendarosenberg lady tallow sparking the #tallowtok trend

how to tell a story (the dragonfly effect)

the dragonfly effects emphasizes building campaigns around one powerful, "sticky" story. people forget facts, but they never forget a great story 1) stories are about people: people connect with other people, so make sure you focus your story on the real-life charecters of your story. focus on the people involved: people are what serve as the audiences guide through the story, and what an audience will connect with 2) let your charecters speak for themselves: an important part of storytelling is making the story personable & relatable. when charecters speak to each other in a story, it lends immediacy urgency and authencity to the piece. use direct quotes & let charecters speak in indiosyncratic voices, lending credability to the dialogue 3) audiences bore easily: lets face it these days, our attention spans are strained and unless your keeping people interested, you are wasting your breath. so when telling a story get them engaged make them wonder "what happens next" or how this is getting to turn out? 4) stories stir up emotions: human beings are not inclined to think about things they dont care about. stories stir emotions not to be manipulative, not simply for melodramatic effect, but to break through the white noise of information that continuously inundated to deliver the message: this is worth your attention 5) strories dont tell: they show, "show dont tell" is the most fundamental maxim of storytelling & for good reason. your audience should see a picture, feel the conflict, and become more involved, with the story & just be receptacles for a long list of facts 6) stories have at least one "moment of truth" the best stories show us something about how we should treat ourselves, others, or the world around us. call it an "aha" moment that point when your story conveys a message that really makes your audience say, yes! thats a powerful idea 7) stories have a clear meaning: when the final line is spoken, your audience, should know exactly why they took this journey with you. in the end, this may be the most important rule of all. if your audience cant answer the question "what was the story all about" it wont matter if you followed rules through six

news elements (chap 5)

the elements that must appear in news stories who, what, when, where how & why. while those elements have been critical in news, the list is a basic starting point for any writer in determining what will go first. these news components can form a question: "who did what to whom, how, when, where, & why" every letter, news story, news release & most microblogs or advertisements will answer the question"
