-trayvon martins final night began with a conveniance store run, a quick trip for candy & something to drink. it ended in a confrontation with a neighborhood watch volunteer, a shot fired, the 17 year old dead on the street -it might have been expected to end there the violent deaths of black teenagers have rarely drawn even fleeting attention -but the killing of this baby faced hooding wearing unarmed youth at the hands of a stranger still reverbrates 10 years later in protest, in patisanship, in racial reckoning reactionary response, in social justice & social media -"it was the thing that broke everyday, all at the same time," said nailah summers polite, co director of dream defenders & organization founded in florida during the protests following martins death -were the trayvon martin generation, we are the people who were moved into actions because of it -it happened on feb 26, 2012 martin was visiting his father in a gated community in sandford florida a suberb of orlando. walking on the way back from the store. he was eyes by george zimmerman then 28, a member of the communits neighborhood watch -the initial police report said zimmerman called authorities to report a suspicious person, a guy who, he said, looks like hes up to no good when zimmerman said he was following the man, a dispatcher said, we dont need you to do that. but armed with a gun, zimmerman got out of his car -in the confrontation that followed, zimmerman would tell authorities, martin attacked him, forcing him to use his gun to save himself. zimerman was allowed to go free -from the start martins parents, sybrina fulton & tracy martin, were outraged. they questioned zimmermans account. had their son had been profiled as suspicious merely because he was black? zimmermans family was adament that their son & brother, who identified as hispanic was not racist -as media attention picked up in early march, others joined in, first locally & then far beyond -for many black people, the idea that trayvon had been profiled because of his race hit a nerve, echoing their own expierences in all walks of life. in his death they saw their own vulnerabilities -it felt like, oh wow i cant walk down the street, even in the realm of my everyday like normal happenings that could have been easily been me, said jonel edwards, another co director of dream defenders -it was espcially jarring in 2012, when the occupant of the white house was barack obama, the countries first black president. his election had some insiting that america had turned a real corner in its troubled racial story; even make skeptics thought there had been progress - & yet martin was dead. the united states had elected a black president & had a black attorney general, & they are still killing us & not even arresting the killer we all saw our kids were still vulnerable said the rev al sharpton, who early on met with martins family & their attorney ben crump as they worked to draw more attention to his death -for many years police killings of black people like amadou diallo in 1999, seam bell in 2006 & ramarly graham, just weeks before martins death had caused outrage. but zimmerman was not law enforcement said jenner furst co-director of the documentary rest in power the trayvon martin story -this person did not have a badge he said this person had not been trained how to operate a firearm in the case of an emergency & not been trained in conflict management, had no skills for determining who is & who isnt the risk -said sharpton i think the fact that it wasent a real police officer made it even more egregious that authorities didnt take action. here is a wanna be security guard theres no reason for relectance here -as word spread of martins death many looking to speak out turned to the digitial space. social media had already shown its potential as a platform for protest, & now the trend went into hyperdive -kevin cunningham then a 31 year old graduate of howard unitiversities law school who was working as a social media consultant for a muslim organization, had been intrigued by the power of social media since he saw the role it played in the 2011 egyptian revolution, he posted a petition on change.org calling for zimmermans prosecution, & it soon had about 10,000 signatures -that number increased expotentially when he turned the petition over to martins parents, who made a personal plea for support for zimmermans prosecution. celebrities on social media encouraged people to sign. in the end, more than 2.2 million people signed on to the peition -it was the right place & time as far as that adoption of social media & just sort of the right eregious case that was able to touch peoples hearts cunningham said detactors were many. social media brought together multitudes for protests like the million hoodie march, as well as countless celebrities & everyday folk who posted images of themselves wearing hoodings with the hashtag, i am trayvon martin -among them: lebron james, then playing with the miami heat, who posted an image of him & his teammates wearing hoodies, their heads bowed -obama himself was drawn into the furor, framing it in terms no other president could -i can only imagine what these parents are going through & when i think about this boy, i think about my own kids obama said -if i had a son hed look like trayvon six weeks after the shooting, zimmerman was charged with second degree murder he would be acquited the next year. but the fermet unleashed by trayvon martins death did not stop -the verdict inspired a facebook post written by alicia garza, a hashtag created by patrisse cullors & a social media startegy superheaded by ayo tometi & the result was black lives matter, a movement to combat racism & racial violence against black communities -& many of the same demonstartors increased by martins kiling took to the streets to protest the death of micheal brown 18 & unarmed, killed by a police officer in ferguson missouri in august 2014, just weeks after eric garner, also unarmed, was killed by police in new york city -the moment of trayvon martin really opened our eyes, said edwards of dream defenders, adding there was much more of a general consciousness that had started in 2012 that then erupted in 2014 -then the 2020 death of george floyd, killed by minneapolis police, brought out a wide range of people around the country & the world -when the george floyd tradgedy happened we all saw that played out with trayvon film director furst said & so many people said never again this cannot happen that way again -but that public anger also inspried a reaction. there have been those who took expectation to obamas words of affinity to martin & saw the protests as anti police chaos & disorder -others acknowledge that martins death & its aftermath changed the country, but question whether the change was even remotely suffcient -sharpton, while dissapointed that there has not been more federal legislation put into place said a cultural change has happened -he pointed to the case of ahmaud arbery, the 25 year old black man chased & killed in 2020 by three white men who saw him running in their georgia neighborhood. the shooter in that case also claimed self defense, but an almost entirely white jury found them all guilty -i think trayvon shifted the culture where people started looking at things a little differently & nothing to me personifies that more than arbery sharpton said these two young men, i think are the two pillars where we are on race

10 free keyword research tools (that arent google keyword planner)
1) google trends: google trends visualizes the relative search popularity of a keyword over time. for example, if we look at the term "costumes" for the past five years, we see that popularity spikes every october. this is because of halloween but how is this useful for keyword research? for starters, it can help you plan your content calender. lets assume you sell costumes online. publishing or republishing a list of the "10 scariest halloween costumes for 20XX" each september when apple launches a new iphone of you run a tech blog, it would make sense to update and republish any related posts every september. going neyond content calenders, trends can also help avoid targeting the wrong keywords take a look at these two: apple watch series 3 (KD 26) (120K) volume, and apple watch series 5 (KD 51) (25 K) volume. if you could only create content for one of these keywords, which would you choose? itd be the one with the highest search volume right? not as fast, because search volumes are averages taken across many months or years. if we check data for the past 12 months only in google trends, we see that searchers for "apple watch series 5" recently overtook those for "apple watch series 3" so if you were running an ecommerce store and had to prioritize one of these keywords, it would almost certainly be "apple watch series 5" after all, searchers for the series 3 are only going to decrease as time goes on 2) keyword generator: keyword generator finds up to 150 ideas for any seed keyword. for example, if we search for "bitcoinn" we get one hundred keyword ideas containing that word along with their estimated monthly search volumes. for the first ten keywords on each list, we also show the keyword difficulty (KD) score. this is a number between 0-100 that estimates ranking difficulty generally speaking, the higher it is, the more backlinks youll need to rank. sidenote: keyword difficulty (KD) dosent take anything else into account besides backlinks. its important to take content quality, search intent, and website authority into account when assessing ranking difficulty. learn more in this post. note that search volumes and KD scores are relative to the chosen country, which is the united states by default if your looking to rank elsewhere, just choose from one of the 170+ countries from the dropdown. you can also use the keyword generator to find keyword ideas for Bing, Youtube, and Amazon. just switch engine at the top of the page. sidenote, keyword generator is not the only free SEO tool by Ahrefs you can find more tools here 3) keyword sheeter: keyword sheeter pulls thousands of autocomplete suggestions from google. to get started, enter one or more seed keywords & click "sheet keywords". if you want to generate a lot of keyword ideas first, this is the tool for you. it pulls around 1,000 ideas per minute and you can export the results for free in one click. the only downside is keyword sheeter is that its quite basic. it dosent show search volumes or trends data, and it dosent group keywords as keyword planner does. but it does have one other notable feature: positive & negetive filters. the easiest way to explain how this words is to show an example. so lets add "how" to the positive filter. now it only shows queries that contain the world "how" informational keywords that might make for good blog posts. the negetive filter does the opposite & excluded queries containing certain words. this is useful for eliminating anything irrelevant. for example, if you run a tech blog & scrape results for "apple" then you probabley only want to see keywords relating to apple to company, not the fruit. so you could excuse keywords like "pie", "crumble", "fruit", and "cider". keyword explorer dosent just pull more keyword ideas. it also shows SEO metrics like monthly search volume and keyword difficulty (KD) 4) answer the public: answer the public finds questions, prepositions, comparisons, alphabeticals, & related searchers. confused? lets tackle each of these one by one. well start by entering a "seed" keyword lets stick with "protein powder" the first thing youll see are questions. these are search queries containing who, what, why, where, how, which, when, are, and is examples: what protein powder tastes best? how protein powder is made, are protein powders fattening?, when does protein powder expire? youll see a visulaization by default, but you can switch to a regular list. next up, we have propositions for can, is, near, without, with, and to. there are search queries that fit the seed preposition ----format examples: protein powder versus meat, protein powder or chicken breast, protein powder like quest and finally, we have alphabeticals & relates. alphabeticals are google autocomplete suggesstions. & related well who knows? in my expierence, the number of suggestions in the related category is almost always -20 i have mo clue how it derives those keywords. but it does kick back a few gems from time to time. but where does ATP get its data from? as far as were aware, that would be google keyword planner & google autosuggest. sidenote: all data is exportable, to CSV. no need to register or log in. looking for more question-type suggestions? answer the public gives 160 question-type queries for the phrase "cat". if we plug the same seed into ahrefs keywords explorer, we get 626,728 keywords thats 3,000x times more. of course were flexing our big data muscles here. for most people, answer the public has more than enough keyword suggesstions. but when your site grows bigger, theres always keywords explorer. 5) keyword surfer: keyword surfer is a free chrome extension that shows estimated global & monthly search volumes for any query typed into google. sidenote: keyword surfer works much the same way as another popular extension called keyword everywhere. this tool used to be free but recently switched to a paid model. keywords surfers developers have promised to keep this tool "100% free forever". right now, keyword surfer shows local search volume estimates for 19 countries. these include the united states, the united kingdom, canada, brazil, france, & germany. theres also an option to turn search volumes on or off. that said these arent true global search volumes. its the total sum of searchers from the 19 countries currently in their database. beyond this, the extension also adds search volume estimates to the autocomplete results: and shows 10 "similar" keywords in the search results: the only downside is that theres no way to get search volumed to bulk. that said bulk research isnt the aim of this extension. its more for assessing queries as your browse the web 6) keyworddit: keyworditt is a unique tool that pulls keyword ideas from reddit. enter a subreddit, and itll mine the titles & comments of threads to find up to 500 keywords. this toll is a fantastic starting point if you know little or nothing about a niche. for example, if you want to start a blog about paleo dieting but know nothing about the topic this tell you that paleo dietars care about things like: low carb meals, slow cooker recipes, grass-fed produce, etc. it also tells you what kind of language they use to describe such things. beyond ideas, the tool pulls estimated us monthly search volumes for each keyword. that helps give you some idea about the popularity of each subtopic. to learn more about a keyword, hit the "content" link to pull up the threads in google that the keywords were derived from. want to find content ideas fast? paste interesting keywords from keyworddit into keyword sheeter & ahrefs keywords explorer. for example, if we paste "red yeast rice" into keyword sheeter, we see ideas like: red yeast rice benefits, does reed yeast rice lower your chloresteral, does red yeast rice thin your blood, can red yeast rice make you tired, how much red yeast rice should you take a day. these may be good ideas for individual blog posts, or even for a "complete" guide 7) google search console: google search console helps you track your websites performance in organic search. this means it shoes a lot of data about the keywords that you already rank for. for example, take a look at the "search results" report from our account. it shows the keywords that have sent the most traffic to the ahrefs blog over the past three months. lets toggle the "average position" and "average CTR" columns. these show each keywords average ranking position and click-through rate. you can get alot of useful insights from this report. for instance lets say that your getting a lot of traffic from a keyword despite ranking in position 3-10. you may want to focus on ranking a higher for that instead of targeting new keywords. if your CTR from low to high. this often uncovers keywords that youre ranking for but never targeted. if any of these have with a new page. for example, we rank in position 8 for "most searched person on google". the page that ranks for this keyword is our list of the top 100 google searchers. this is only a sem-relevant result for this keyword. we may rank higher with a blog post about the most googled people not things 8) questiondb: questiondb finds the questions people are asking about a specific topic. it pulls these from a database of 48M questions are sorted by popularity, but you can also sort by topic. this is a super useful feature because it also groups questions together, for instance, lets search for "protein powder" and sort by topic. all questions about vegan protein powder are now grouped together. some goes for those about keto protein powders: this is useful when writing blog posts, as it helps you understand which questions to answer. speaking of answers if you check the box to "show source link" a clickable link appears next to each question. this takes you to the threat itself. if you browse the comments, you can find answers fast, which speeds up content research. all questions are exportable to CSV at the touch of a button. 9) bulk keyword generator: bulk keyword generator is a keyword research tool for local seo. it generates keywords based on industry tape. to start, follow step 1 choose a business type from the dropdown. you will then see a list of keywords relevant to the services or products you offer. for example, lets see "Plumber" as the business type. we see queries like hot water installation, gas installation, drain cleaning, and drain relining. now, most businesses that offer these services will mention so on their website. but many fail to create or optimize individual pages for these service-type queries. to illustrate, take a look at this plumbing companies homepage; it states that they offer drain reclining services, yet they dont have a page about this service. as a result, there outranked by those that do. in step 2, the tool that appends the chosen services with locations (London) however, this isnt particularly useful because it dosent reflect the way people actually search. for instance, most londoners wouldent search for "drain reclining services in london" theyd search for "drain relining" or "drain relining services". google serves local results either way, & the latter is quicker. this is also why theres often little or no volume for such terms in tools like ahrefs keywords explorer. so heres a smarter idea: copy a handful of service-type keywords from the tool that apply to your business: paste a list into google keywords from the tool that apply to your business; paste a raw list into google keyword planner; set the location to a relevant city or area. for example, lets type "drain relining" into keyword planner & set the location to nottingham. there are 10-100 monthly searches. 10) google: google is perhaps the most powerful keyword research tool on the planet. theres the autocomplete feature for generating an almost infinite number of keyword ideas. but thats only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to using goole for keyword research. for starters, take notice of the "people also ask" box that shows up for some searchers. people also ask: what is the best protein powder? what does protein powder do? are protein shakes bad for you? what is the best protein powder for weight loss? these are questions that google knows searchers are asking and what to know the answers to. and heres a quick trick: click on any of these questions, and google will load more. people will ask: what is the best protein powder? what does protein powder do? are protein shakes bad for you? what is the best protein powder for weight loss? do protein shakes help you loose belly fat? can i lost weight by drinking protein shakes? is protwin powder bad for your kidneys? does protein powder make you gain weight? does protein make you fart? is it bad to drink protein shakes everyday? is it bad to drink 2 protein shakes a day? how many protein shakes a day? should you take protein everyday? should i drink protein on rest days? keep doing this, & you can generate an almost infinite list of questions people are asking. but googles use as a keyword research tool dosent end there. lets say that theres a keyword you want to rank for. there are alot of factors at play when it comes to SEO, but one thing is certain: if you want to rank, then your content needs to allign with search intent. in other words, dont try to rank a gym homepage for query like "how to lose weight"? people who perform that search arent in buying mode. there in learning mode. google is your best friemd when it comes to understanding search intent. just look at the search results & the presence of SERP features. for example, imagine that were an email marketing tool & want to rank for "email marketing" looking at the search results for the query we notice two things: first theres a featured snippet. this is almost a sign of informational intent. searchers are in learning mode & want to see blog posts & guides, not product pages. second there are quite a few beginners guides. that tells us that most searchers are email marketing nobs who want to learn the absolute basics of email marketing. so thats what we should create if we want to rank for this keyword. now, if we search for something totally different like "dress" we see the opposite: all the results are ecommerce product or category pages, & google even shows shopping ads this tell us the searcher is in buying mode. bottom line? dont overlook google as a keyword research tool. keyword research is about more than just finding keywords. its about understanding who is searching for them and what they want to see.

-after months of contention between elon musk & twitter executives over his bid to own the company, the tesla founder was officially given control on friday. but as the new leader emerged at the helm, the platform was a massive spike in hate speech a new study found -researchers from montclair state university found that the 12 hours immediately following musks ascension to ownership saw a much more hostile enviroment on twitter. the team looked at tweets fiilledd with vulgar & hostile rhetoric aimed at people based on their race, religion, ethnicity & orientation such as the n-word k-word, & f-word to find out just how bad it got -& what they found was an immediate, visible, & measurable spike -in the week leading up to musks acquisition, researchers said there were no more than 84 hostile tweets an hour on the platform. but from midnight on october 28 the day musk took ownership to noon the next day, there were 4,778 hate filed tweets. that accounts for more than 398 tweets an hour, about 4.7 times higher than the seven day average leading up to that day. the potential reach for those tweets was more than 3 million, researchers found -researchers also said there was an increase in negetive sentiment, with more than 67% of the tweets sent after musks takeover having a negetive tone -in sum, the content & tone of twitter posts became measurably more oriented towards hate speech on the day elon musk became ceo of the company with significant reach attained for this hate content the study says -yoel roth, twitters head of safety & security has also confirmed an increase in hate speech. on monday he tweeted that the company as seen a surge in hateful conduct & removed more than 1,500 accounts. a graph he shared a total impression of tweets with at least on slur shows that the increase kicked off on friday very shortly after the musk acquisition was announced. it appeared to spike between saturday & sunday -roth described the surge as a short term trolling campaign with many of the accounts they removed stremming then repeated bad actors on saturday he said is an example that more than 50,000 tweets that used a particular slur were issued by just 300 accounts, most of which were inauthentic -these issues arent new & the people targeted by hateful conduct arent numbers of data points. were going to continue investing in policy & technology to make things better, he tweeted -while monclair researchers made it clear that the acquisition saw an immediate increase in hostile language on the platform, what remains murky is what specifically caused it. musk has long said that this ownership of twitter would come with fewer restrictions, but researchers said its speculative to know whether his potential policy changed would have caused the spike -its possible however that based on his sentiments users resorted to the language its possible, because they assumed they would no longer be banned or suspended from the platform. its also possible that having an unmoderated platform was potentially a source of excitement, researchers said -musk has not explicity said what he will be tolerated on the platform since the surge began, although he has retweeted ruths statements about the surge. on friday musk said that twitter will form a content moderation council with widely diverse viewpoints & that no major content decisions would be made before that council can convene -twitter will not allow anyone who had deplatformed for violating twitter rules back on platform until we have a clear process for doing so, which will take at least a few more weeks musk said tuesday night. twitters content moderation council will include representaties will widely divergent views which will certianly include the civil rights community & groups who face hate fueled violence

-cheerconnections is the name of the fun & interactive platform i have created for athletes specifically at the high school & college level. they can share their expierences based on their specific sport & connect with others when sharing their sports as the platform creator. i am personally hoping to form connections with others i have been an athlete for most of my life participating in cheerleading. although, it is fun for me to be a cheerleader, what many people may not be aware of is the mental & physical demands that come with cheering & the tool it may take on your health. athletes are constantly told to be strong & push through the pain they may endure as they arent percieved by others in weak & vulnerable. however, by pushing themselves to the limits & perservering through the pain, athletes can cause permanent damage to their bodies -personally as a cheerleader for many years, i have expierenced long lasting physical & emotional damage. i have a finger on my hand that is permantely crooked from a cheer injury. i also have siatoca from injuring my back at cheer. i often expierence anxiety & a sense of insecurity worrying if i am good enough or as good as my teammate. these feelings developed from my coaches in the past threatening me that i will be dropped from the team if i dont bring in my very best performance to win a medal. i realize now as an adult that participation in sports is not all about winning -the reason i originally started participating in cheer was because my friends were involved & expressed to me how much happiness & fun energy it brought into their lives, enlightening me & persuading me to sign up & become a cheerleader. the moment that i decided to transition from the recreational league to a competitive team, i realized cheer was no longer fun but anxiety driven & stressful. i often felt alone expierencing these feelings, & thought perhaps i was the one being dramatic for frequently having these feelings when it came to the sport. many of my coaches were yelling at me for a reason. these were self-doubts running through my head. when i had a reality check & spoke to other athletes on my team, they spoke about how they felt the same way. they wished someone had come & talked to them earlier about their feelings. as they didnt feel so isolated in feeling that way. this is the purpose of the blog. to give athletes a safe space to talk about their feelings & connect with others from various ages, backgrounds, & sports so everyone can come together, relate to one another & most importantly establish those connections -my overall goal of the platform is to share my own personal story & have others relate to it & to one another so no one will ever have to feel alone again. oftentimes, athletes face discrimination regarding their race, gender, & overall cultural background & i want those individuals to come forward & share their personal expierences & what issues they are forced to deal with on a daily basis. there will be subsections to my blog emphasizing emotional & physical strains, on sports, sports through a pandemic, & LGBTQ in sports. athletes can respond to those subsections topics that they personally relate to or even create their own post that others can respond to. its all about sharing expierences & forming those personal connections. perhaps speaking about the struggles athletes go through & sharing their expierences will make those struggles more managable & help build resilience. if you want to make new friends & form connections then engage in this platform as it is designed to unite athletes in all sports & form those connections with others while embracing one another & building strong relationships

all about me
as you may want to get to know me, i am a twenty year old die hard cheerleader who has been performing the sport for as long as i can remember. along with cheer, i am an outgoing, friendly, bubbly spririt who enjoys being around others & embarking on new adventures. when i started my new adventure of becoming a cheerleader, it became my entire life. i have to put my blood, sweat & tears into this sport suffering from both mental & physical distress, but honestly it has been well worth it because it truely makes me happy. this sport may be draining, as i am expected to win every competition i compete in the best of my ability usually given zero breaks & am constantly worried about the chance of dissapointing my coaches & fellow teammates if i had an off day or had some fumbles. as i go into my next era of college it really was an eye opener for me as i can recall from my sophomore season cheering on the basketball team, it was about having dun as there was no competion & no judgements. that is something i have never expierenced before in a sport, even though the reason for getting involved in a sport is the fun one has for it & the passion that comes with it. ive realized i have lost that charisma & energy i began with when it came to cheer -i used to cheer back in elementary school & middle school & had a huge smile on my face & looked forward to going to basketball & football games to cheer on my schools team. once i started competing all of this changed for me & suddenly everything was taken to the next level i was a full time athlete whose world revolved around this sport. i was always an athlete but changed from the fun loving one to the overly competitive serious one. i went to cheer to win & be better than everyone else not to have fun. that is what i lost who i was as a cheerleader & a person in general. it was time to straighten out my large floppy bow & loosen up my high pony & find who i was & remember why i loved cheer so much & that it is important to spread this awareness & assist other athletes in the process of finding their passion for the sport & the reason why they began practicing the sport in the first place. that was the realization i had knowing it was about having fun with the sport & getting to meet new people while cheering on my fellow classmates, not competing & loving my heart that came with cheering -i want this blog to evoke change in individual athletes lives by easing their anxiety & stress revolving around sports based on the pressure that is put on them. what many spectators may not be aware of also is the discrimination based on gender, race, & overall cultural background what athletes endure through in their particular sports. this platform is designed to form connections with others & bring these issues to life while speaking on personal expierences they had had with their sports & find their heart that may be missing holding the passion of dedication athletes have to their sport. it is not just a sport for athletes its a lifestyle & it is my goal to relive stress & embrace different cultures while brining the nostalgia back of the overall fun favtor that comes with sports

its simple: free keyword tools are limited compared to paid tools. thats not to say that free tools dont have their uses. but the number of keyword ideas & data they give access to will always pale in comparison to paid tools. because of this, paid tools allow you to go way deeper & do more advanced marketing research. to illustrate, heres what happems if we go type "protein powder" into ahrefs keywords explorer: 123,000+ "phrase match" suggesstions from our database of 9.9 billion keywords. no free keyword tool runs on a database that large. we also show tons of data points, including estimated monthly search volume; keyword difficulty (KD, clicks CPC and everything is searchable, filterable & returned in seconds. sidenote: we add new keywords to our database & refresh search volumes each month. doing this with free keyword tools would be next to impossible. plus, to make any real decisions on the competitiveness of a keyword, you should analyze the top 10 ranking pages. to an extent, you can do that using google. but in keywords explorer, we show backlink data & traffic stats for each of the top 10 results. just scroll down to the SERP overview. strada education recieved responses from a group of about 4,000 undergraduate students from 244 different institutions between sept 10-25 with the help of college pulse, a research company, & nichole torpey-saboe, director of research for strada. the survey results reflect other recent & widespread assessments of the effect of the pandemic on students mental health. three fourths of respondents said stress or anxiety has been a challenge for them, and 58 percent said they have been struggling with "feeling lonely or isolated" during the fall semester, the survey report said -fourty-four percent of students named "stress, anxiety & loneliness" as their "biggest" challenge over other concerns, the report said. in comparision, 22 percent of respondents said "keeping up academically" was their biggest challange this semester, and 14 percent said paying for tutition, books & other costs has been their primary challenge during the fall semester. -jesse barba, senior director of external affairds for young imvincibles, a national group that advocates for the political & economic empowerment of youth, said the strada findings are "very consistent" with that organization has been hearing from students in its network around the country. barba said increased stress & anxiety is an expected result of more widespread reliance on online-only instruction, more students living in "toxic" home enviroments, or not having access to high-speed internet to learn effictively & being cut off from "key" college-provided resources such aa dorm room, meal plan & health care -when it comes to things outside of tuition---basic needs, housing insecurity, food insecurity--- we know that half of all college students have been affected by that even before COVID barba said. if you cant get a square meal in the morning, you are mire likely to fall behind your peers in the long run. then the pandemic hit & its even harder the strada survey also showed that finances were "much more of a conern" for black & latino students than for their white peers. torpey-saboe said. fifty-two percent of latino students & than for their white peers. torpey-saboe said. fifty-two percent of latino students & 48 percent of black students paying for tutition & other costs as a challenge they face this semester, versus only 36 percent of white students & 41 percent of students over all. only 11 percent of white students cited financial challanges as their "biggest" struggle, compared to 9 percent of latina students & 20 percent of black students who responded to the survey. -torpey-saboe also noted that latino students were more likely to delay their expected graduation data as a result of the pandemic than students of other races. while 18 percent of latino students said they would "definetly" or "likely" change their expected graduation date due to the impact of the pandemic, 12 percent of white students anticipated having to adjust their graduation date. -deborah santiago, CEO of excelencia in education, an advocacy group that aims to support latino students in higher education, said in an email that the data on latino students delaying their graduation are very concerning. the latino community has also been disproportionately harmed by the pandemic through widespread loss of employment and family income, santiago wrote, as a result, latina students may have have has to take on more financial responsibility, she wrote -"over the last few years, we have seen a significant acceleration in lations degree completion, she wrote. "the implications of the potential delay in competition as noted in this analysis is a slow down in the pace of completion & the lost momentum to close the equity gap in degree attainment nationally" -torpey-saboe said the 71 percent of students who said they were "much worse" and a "little worse" off academically due to online instruction during the fall semester was particularly suprising & disappointing. there was hope in higher ed circles that instructors who were not expierenced in teaching courses online & had to quickly shift to remote instruction when campuses across the country closed last spring would have built up their skills by the start of fall semester, she said. -"I was suprised at the levelk of negativity and pessimisim around online instruction" torpey-saboe said "everyone knew that it didnt go well in the spring, but there was more hope for the fall, that there was more time to prepare & adjust. we didnt explicity ask students to compare fall & spring. it could still be thats it better, but over all students feel that its worse for them than what there used to. -charlie digiogio, a senior at west virginia university who is studying theatrical design, said the shift to online reduced his ability to learn effectively. as part of digiogios particcum courses required for his major, he builds theater sets & worrks on sound and lighting for university productions. those activities were canceled for the spring & fall 2020 semesters & pushed to later dates. digiogio was in the middle of a hands on welding class when the campus closed in march. -"learning to weld through a computer is not exactly feasible" he said "at this moment, i should be able to weld for shows, but i am not certified to do that" -digiorgio said now that WVU shows, but I am not certified to do that" -digiorgio said now that WVU has reopened with a hybrid model of in-person & online classes, hes been "playing catch up" and meeting with the professir who taught the welding class just last semester to practice welding. even if he does learn the skills he needs to do professional set design, the entire theater industry has been hit hard by the pandemic and digiogio is unsure if hell have a career path after he graduates in fall 2021. he noted that the broadway league in new york city recently announced that it will postpone productions until may 2021. -"were in this spot as an industry where its like, oh crap" digiorgio said :its led to alot of self-doubt about, can i do this, what if my fiekd is not here in 10 years it does lead to a lot of negetive head space" -ben roux, a senior at missiouri state university who is scheduled to graduate in may 2021, with a comouter science degree, considers himself lucky to have secured a job in software development for next year. roux applied to about 100 software related jobs in wide range of locations & industries and was only invited to participate in two interviews -roux worries if he'll keep that job if the economy worsens. the recent loss of his part time job on campus that paid for groceries, gas, & other expenses has also amounted to added stress during the semester, he said -"a lot of stuff is up in the air roux said. "we dont know what spring 2021 is going to be like.... i personalky like to make plans for the future and it feels like a little of that has been taken away" -barbs of young invincibles, compared what current students are facing to what college graduates expierenced during the great recession of 2008-9 over all he is not optimistic about current students economic futures & noted that there will be likely be dicrepancies between students of color & white students in their ability to bounce back financially -"i hate to be stark, but im fearful that we will have a lost generation" he said we know that boomers were defined by the vietnam war, millenials, by 911 and the great recession and gen z will be defined by the pandemic. there repeating the same story that we want through as millennials. im not excited to see the trend continue in a negative direction

-hello fellow athletes & spectators out there! along with my blog you will find this post on instagram which you can follow to a direct link to my blog to connect with others who may be commenting on this post. instagram is a great visual outlet for this particular post as i want my viewers to see first hand the struggles athletes are faced with. i hope you can sit on the bench to chat with me on my blog & form some connections with others on the sidelines! sports are suppossed to evoke happiness & joy bringing fellow athletes & spectators together. all bonding over something they love however, what we dont always realize is the emotional & physical turmoil sports can take on athletes physical & mental health -i have been a cheerleader for as long as i can remember. i began my journey as a school & recreational cheerleader & then began to cheer at a competitive level. this is when cheer went downhill for me. the sport i had always known & loved & suddenly was no longer enjoyable but became stressful & all about winning. the reason i started cheering was the positive energy it brought into my life. as time went on, i realized it wasent fun to get constantly yelled at by my coaches to do better or to toughen up & push through my injuries that have left me with permanent damage -i was often threatened by my coaches that my position would be taken away from me if i did not step it up. this left me feeling insecure & defeated. i am now a college cheerleader, which is a club sport at the school i attend & it brings me that nostalgic feeling that i used to expierence before becoming a competitive cheerleader. however, some high school & college athletes face a huge amount of stress & pressure from their families & coaches to be the very best they can be even if their best is not good enough. it was a moment where i couldent take it anymore, the former USC mens basketball star said during a panal discussion on college athlete mental health. i couldent hide behind my shield anymore. i just came out & expressed it, hoping someone could relate & make me feel better. we reach our breaking point & cant take the constant belittling & unrealistically high expectations that emotionally & physically cause us pain. participation in sports should be a part of ones life but not define ones life & goals. it is meant to be fun, enjoyable, & bring positive energy into an athletes life.
LGBTQ in sports
-i will share this via wattpadd which is a social media site that encourages users to share their own stories, just like i want my viewers to do if they can personally relate to this topic or know of someone who does. this is their chance to tell their story & share it in a safe space with no judgements -within the LGBTQ community there are lots of judgements, backlash, ridicule & making fun of these individuals for being comftorable with their own sexuality. this type of treatment happens everywhere but even more often in sports. going back to gender streotypes in sports, if an individual is a transgender & going into a sport that heavily involves one gender or another. the individual may feel excluded & isolated from everyone else. recently, states around the u.s. have been banning female transgenders to individuals who were born males & later became a female from participating in girls sports at public schools "nine states have enacted laws that bar or limit transgender women & girls from participatng in female sports & south dakots governer signed a similar executive order. some of the bans have been halted by courts in ongoing litigation - as in school districts & even on college campuses, specific sports have a gender label on them like womens, volleyball compared to mens volleyball, womens soccer versus mens soccer & womens tennis versus mens tennis are just a few of the examples that i can come up with off the top of my head. there are some sports however that are gender inclusive like golf, bowling, & cheerleading where players are not seperated by gender & can all perform together. as the community already suffers from difficulties of confidence in fear of being judged by others, this makes the situation even worse for specifically transgenders as it was hard to finally be accepted by themselves in their own skin & now they are prevented from participating in sports on a womens team because of it. simialar to the gay community as gay men who want to be involved in a male dominated sport like football, for example can face even more bullying as they are looked at as weak compared to others even if they are at the same skill level as everyone else. just because one is gay, that dosent reflect on their athletic performance -social media has taken this stigma to a whole new level as there are memes out there poking fun at gay individuals involved with sports with other men or women on their team & it is ultimately looked down upon & laughed at. that is why it is so hard for individuals to come out with their sexuality & come to terms of it, espcially if they are athletes because of the cruetly they are faced with if they do

(its okay if you dont include one this time) at least consider what work would work best 5) use contractions for an informal voice: we speak much less formally than we write, & contractions are part of the way in which we sound more controversial. so unlike more formal papers & reports, your social media posts can use contradictions (its instead of it is) 6) link to your sources: using hyperlinks within your posts/articles can serve as a way of citing your sources. they will show your user the origin of the information you are sharing 7) submit final published copy: you have written the three posts, go back & read them out loud. edit & edit again (remember the 7 steps of the writing process)

the dragonfly effects emphasizes building campaigns around one powerful, "sticky" story. people forget facts, but they never forget a great story 1) stories are about people: people connect with other people, so make sure you focus your story on the real-life charecters of your story. focus on the people involved: people are what serve as the audiences guide through the story, and what an audience will connect with 2) let your charecters speak for themselves: an important part of storytelling is making the story personable & relatable. when charecters speak to each other in a story, it lends immediacy urgency and authencity to the piece. use direct quotes & let charecters speak in indiosyncratic voices, lending credability to the dialogue 3) audiences bore easily: lets face it these days, our attention spans are strained and unless your keeping people interested, you are wasting your breath. so when telling a story get them engaged make them wonder "what happens next" or how this is getting to turn out? 4) stories stir up emotions: human beings are not inclined to think about things they dont care about. stories stir emotions not to be manipulative, not simply for melodramatic effect, but to break through the white noise of information that continuously inundated to deliver the message: this is worth your attention 5) strories dont tell: they show, "show dont tell" is the most fundamental maxim of storytelling & for good reason. your audience should see a picture, feel the conflict, and become more involved, with the story & just be receptacles for a long list of facts 6) stories have at least one "moment of truth" the best stories show us something about how we should treat ourselves, others, or the world around us. call it an "aha" moment that point when your story conveys a message that really makes your audience say, yes! thats a powerful idea 7) stories have a clear meaning: when the final line is spoken, your audience, should know exactly why they took this journey with you. in the end, this may be the most important rule of all. if your audience cant answer the question "what was the story all about" it wont matter if you followed rules through six
