How did Imam Hussain(as) and his son Imam Sajjad (as) explains the meaing of Samad?

Imam Hussain (as), in a tradition, has stated five meanings for 'Samad.' 1. Samad is a Lord Whose Lordship has attained its highest point or degree. 2. Samad is an Essence, and Being that continues or continues forever or is everlasting. 3. Samad is the Existence that has not a hollow inside. 4. Samad is the One Who takes no nourishment, food, or drinks. 5. Samad is One Who does not sleep.12 A tradition from Imam Sajjad (as) says: "Samad' is One Who has no partner and it is not difficult for Him to protect things, and nothing is hidden from Him".13 A tradition denotes that Basrah's citizens wrote a letter to Imam Hussain (as) and asked him the meaning of Samad. He replied: "In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful: then do not plunge in the vain talk about the Qur'an and do not dispute about it, and do not speak about it when you do not know (it). Verily, I heard from my grandfather, the Messenger of Allah, who said: 'the person who talks about the Qur'an without knowing (it), his abode will be in the fire.' Allah, Himself, has rendered 'Samad' to mean: 'He begets not, nor is He begotten,' 'And there is none like unto Him'... Yes, Allah is 'Samad' Who is not from anything and is not in anything or on anything; He is the Creator of everything, and all are from Him by His Power; what He has created to perish will perish at His Will, and what He has created to remain will remain in His Knowledge. 2.Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 3, p. 223. 13.Ibid. 14.Majma'-al-Bayan, vol. 10, p. 565

He it is Who created the heavens and the earth in six days [and period of time] and then rose over the Throne. He is All-Aware of what goes into the earth and what comes forth from it and what descends from the heaven and what ascends thereto. And He is with you wherever you may be. And Allah is the All-Seer of what you do. 57:5. His is the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth and to Allah return all things. 2:117. "Originator (is He) of the heavens and the earth; and when He decrees a matter to be, He only says to it ' Be' and it is." Describing in more detail the early moments of the universe, the Quran says the following: D-Surah Al-'Anbiya' - Verse 21:30. "Do not those who disbelieve see that the heavens and the earth were joined together before We clove them asunder, and We made from water every living thing? Will they not then believe?" Here, there have been stated a few signs of Allah in the system of the world of existence and its regular order, which is an emphasis on the previous discussions regarding the reasons of Monotheism. But the Quran does not stop there. It also describes the expansion of the universe: E-Surah al-Dhariyat - Verses 47-48 وَالسَّمَاء بَنَيْنَاهَا بِأيْدٍ وَإِنَّا لَمُوسِعُونَ وَالْأرْضَ فَرَشْنَاهَا فَنِعْمَ الْمَاهِدُونَ 47. With [indescribable] power did We construct the heaven. Indeed, We are Able to extend the vastness of space thereof. . It is mentioned in the Quran: F-Surah Al-'An'am, Verse 101. "(He is the) Divisor of the heavens and the earth! 82. "His command, when he intends anything, is only to say to it 'Be', so it is. "83. "So glory be to Him, in Whose hand is the domination of everything, and unto Whom you shall be returned." In the creation of existence, Allah needs neither a means nor any help, nor anyone who removes the barriers. The above verses prove that the universe had a beginning, that God was behind its creation, and all that God needs to do inorder to create is to say "Be," and it is. Could this be an explanation as to what triggered off the explosion that brought about the beginning of the universe? Imam Ali(as) expalined He had claimed that universe has been created from the water which has been regarded as the basic element. "It is through the strength of Allah's greatness and his delicate power of innovation that He made solid dry earth out of the water of fathomless, compact and dashing ocean. Then he made from it layers and separated them into seven skies after remaining joined together." (Ali, Peak Of Eloquence, 2004)

How did the Big Bang happen?

A Belgian priest named Georges Lemaître first suggested the big bang theory in the 1920s, when he theorized that the universe began from a single primordial atom. The universe began, scientists believe, with every speck of its energy jammed into a very tiny point. This extremely dense point exploded with unimaginable force, creating matter and propelling it outward to make the billions of galaxies of our vast universe. Astrophysicists dubbed this titanic explosion the Big Bang. In other words, The Big Bang theory states that around 12-15 billion years ago the universe came into existence from one single extremely hot and dense point, and that something triggered the explosion of this point that brought about the beginning of the universe. The universe, since then, has been expanding from this single point. It offers a comprehensive explanation for a broad range of observed phenomena, including the abundance of light elements, the cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation, and large-scale structure.

What does the term kufw-كُفُوًا mean in the fourth verse? 4. "And there is none like unto Him."

And there is none like unto Him." The term "kufw-كُفُوًا." Originally means 'equal from the point of position and rank'; then, it is used for any similarity. Considering this verse, Allah is free from all qualities or obstacles that creatures have and free from all defects and limitations. This is 'Unity of Attributes' that corresponds with 'Unity of Number.' Therefore, He is One in Essence, in attributes, and deeds; and He is unique in every aspect. Amir-al-Mo'mineen Ali (as) has said: "...no change can take place in Him and no lessening, diminishing, dwindling, decay and dissipation of His Mighty and Glory is possible, that He is not begotten(no parents) from anyone nor does He beget anyone(no children)... He has no peer and no equal. He can destroy things created by Himself in such a way that they will cease to exist and disappear into nothingness..."18 This is an interesting statement because it discusses the narrowest points of Unity. It warns us not to ascribe our qualities and attributes to Allah and thus not create our glorified image as a personal deity. Nahj-ul-Balagha, Sermon 186 (Arabic version).

Why did Aisha oppose Imam Ali(as)?

At the same time, Hazrat Aisha, the Prophet's(S) widow, became highly vocal against Imam Ali (as). She called for revenge for the assassination of Uthman. The Belief in the Oneness of Allah in Himself Allah, the Glorified, is One, Unique in Himself, not one of His creatures is like Him .Surah Ikhlas, No. 112, verse 4 "And there is none like unto Him".20 It is worth mentioning that the human intellect can only perceive that which has an image which Man invokes in his own mind. Allah, the Glorified, is far from being reducible to this, and that is why the mind cannot fathom His Essence. How could he perceive the Essence of the Great Creator, while the Qur'an presents this fact: 1.Surah Ra'd, No. 13, verse 13 "...yet these (are the men) who (dare to) dispute about Allah, with the strength of His power (supreme)!"21 2. The Belief in the Oneness of Allah in His Attributes تو حید صفات : He alone has the most glorious attributes. He has complete absoluteness in knowledge, power, will, wisdom, independence, etc. He is above all faults, and no one is like Him in His attributes. It is logical that the attributes follow the self, and so the qualities of the sun are different from that of the dust. Likewise, Allah's attributes are different from that of the creatures. This is the meaning of Allah's saying: .Surah A'raf, No. 7, verse 180 "The most beautiful names belong to Allah: So call on Him by them..."22, 3. The Belief in the Oneness of Allah in His Actions تو حید افعالی .It is a self-evident truth that actions are expressions of the self and of attributes. As the hand can by no means act like the mind, due to the natural difference between the two in essence and attributes, and as the wind cannot act like electrical current, so no one can act like Allah, the Glorified. 4. The Belief in the Oneness of Allah in Worship ۔توحید در عبادت : True belief in the Oneness of Allah is incomplete without worshipping Allah, faithfully. He is the Creator and the Owner of His creatures. He grants them His grace. He is, for such consideration, entitled to be worshipped. All divine messages have called Man to submit and yield to Allah alone. The Most Exalted says: Surah Ta-Ha, No. 10, Verse 14 "Verily, I am God (Allah): there is no god but I: So serve thou Me (only), and establish regular prayer for celebrating My praise"25. Surah Fatiha, No. 1, Verse 5 "Thee do we worship, and Thine aid we seek".26 20.Surah Ikhlas, No. 112, verse 4 21.Surah Ra'd, No. 13, verse 13 22.Surah A'raf, No. 7, verse 180 23.Surah Fatiha, No. 1, verse 2 24.Surah Saffat, No. 37, verse 180 25.Surah Ta-Ha, No. 10, Verse 14

What extend does science is beneficial in recogination of Allah(SWT)?

Empirical science can make us familiar with the works of God, but the inference of an Omniscient(knowing everything.) and Omnipotent(having unlimited power; able to do anything.) God of the Qur'an, as a result of studying a part of the nature, requires an intellectual exercise. The leap from the finite to the infinite requires intellection. The ways of proving God through the existence of order and guidance in the created world are very good but they are good up to the point that make us aware that this world ...is under the supervision of a designing force that governs it... What science can tell us at the most is that the designer of this world has had knowledge of the thing made, but can science [also] prove that: "He has knowledge of everything?" (57: 3).3

Who was Mu'awiya?

Mu'awiya was the son of Abu Sufiyan(one of the greatest enemies of Prophet Muhammad(S).In Mecca's conquest, he became Muslim, and he was among Tulaqa (freed ones who converted to Islam after the conquest of Mecca). Within a few years, Yazid-1, son of Abu Sufyan, died of a disease, and Umar appointed Mu'awiya in his brother's place as the Governor. In what context, this surah was revealed? When was this Surah revealed?

People asked Prophet Muhammad (S) to describe Allah (SWT) through the genealogy (family tree) of Allah. They believed that the deities that their idols represented had familial relationships with one another. Also, these people claimed to worship one God, but at the same time, they made idols and worshipped images of God. On the occasion of revealing of this Surah, a tradition from Imam Sadiq (as) says: 1-"A Jew asked the Holy Prophet (S) to describe the identity or to relate the genealogy(linage) of Allah. He remained silent and gave no answer for three days, then, the Messenger Angel brought (him) this Surah, and he (S) gave them their answer."1 2-Some other narrations denote that the Jew who asked this question was Abdullah bin Suriya, one of the known chiefs of the Jews. .3- Another narration says that 'Abdullah bin Salam asked this question from the Holy Prophet (S), in Mecca, and believed (in Islam). But, he kept his faith concealed. 4- Another narration says that the pagans of Mecca asked such a question.2 5-In some narrations, it is also said that the Christians of Najran asked the question. There is no contradiction in these narrations because the question may have been asked by all of them, separately, at different times. That's why this Surah is evidence of extraordinary importance, which answers other persons' questions from various groups. 1.Majma'-al-Bayan, vol. 10, p. 564. 2.Al-Mizan, vol. 20, p. 546.

What did Prophet Muhammad(S) say about the importance of Surah Ikhlas?

Reciting this once is the equivalent of finishing one-third of the Qur'an. It is narrated that the Holy Prophet (S) said : "Is there anyone of you unable to recite one-third of the Qur'an in one night"? One of his listeners asked: "O Messenger of Allah! Who can do that"? What is the meaning of the terms ratq and fataq in Surah Al-Anbiya verse 30? 30.

Surah Al-Anbiya verse 30 is about THE 'BIG BANG' theory: In the this verse, the Arabic words ratq and fataq are used. 1-The word ratq can be translated into "entity" "sewn to" "joined together" or "closed up". The meaning of these translations all circulate around something that is mixed and that has a separate and distinct existence. 2-The verb fataq in (fafataqnahuma) is translated into "We unstitched" "We clove them asunder" "We separated" or "We have opened them". 3-The heavens and the Earth were opened up (fafataqnahuma) from their state of being ratq. These meanings imply that something comes into being by an action of splitting or tearing apart. The sprouting of a seed from the soil is a good example of a similar illustration of the meaning of the verb fataq. 4-Disbelievers will 'see' this, i.e.: there will be observational evidence for this, and the verse's contents will be an argument(doubt) for belief in God and Islam. 5--Water is the source of all life. With the introduction of the Big Bang theory, it soon became clear to Muslim scholars that the details mentioned with regards to the theory go identically hand in hand with the description of the creation of the universe in verse 30 of chapter 20 of the Quran. The theory states that all the matter in the universe came into existence from one single extremely hot and dense point; that exploded and brought about the beginning of the universe, matches what is mentioned in the verse that the heaven and Earth (thus the universe) where once joined together, and then split apart. Once again, the only possible explanation is that Prophet Muhammad (S)had truly received divine revelation from God, The Creator and Originator of the universe. So far, so startling. This is a pretty perfect description of the Big Bang. The cosmos was indeed a closed-up mass, ie: a highly dense and tiny point which has opened up to produce the wider universe. Lastly, the Quran makes a very specific prophecy regarding this — that the observational evidence for this would be found by the disbelievers, ie: the non-Muslims. The verse ends by addressing this atheistic era: will you not believe? That is: will the modern western world not believe in God and Islam, when a beginning of the universe is now scientifically supported, and its discovery predicted by the Prophet of Islam(pbuh) 1400 years ago, in the depths of the Arabian desert.

The Hadith of the Golden Chain (Hadith al-Silsilah al-Dhahab (حدیث سلسلة الذهب‎) is a hadith narrated by the eighth Imam, Imam Ali Raza(as). The "chain" is a reference to the continuity of spiritual authority, which is passed down from Prophet Muhammad(S) to Imam Ali (as), through each of the Imams, to Imam Raza. (as) transmitters of Hadith, the Imams link subsequent generations to the teachings of Prophet Mohammad. (S) This shows that the Imams hold divine authority, and it does not diminish when passed to its successor. Also, this implies that the Knowledge and Hadith from these individuals are credible because it leads back to Prophet Muhammad (S). This transmission makes the Hadith of the Golden. The Hadith is important to Shia because it implies that, on the one hand, monotheism takes believers to "Allah's fortress," which is a safe shelter. On the other hand, the Imamah is a fundamental precondition of entering this shelter.

How does verse 3 of this Surah reject the faith ideology of Christians, Jews, and Pegan Arabs?

This verse rejects the idea of the Christians, the Jews, and the pagan Arabs, who declared that Allah had a child or is a father. It says: "He begets(no children) not, nor is He was begotten (no parents)." Different from this is the statement of those who believe in the Trinity; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Christians know 'Jesus' as the Son of God. The Jews believe 'Ezra' ('Uzair) was the Son of God: As mentioned in the Quran: Surah At-Tawbah - Verse 30. "And the Jews say: 'Uzair is the son of God'; and the Christians say: 'The Messiah is the son of God'. That is the utterance(saying) of their mouths, conforming with the saying of those who disbelieved before. May Allah destroy them; how they are turned away!" "The Jews call 'Uzair a son of God, and the Christians call Christ the Son of God. That is a saying from their mouth; (in this) they imitate what the Unbelievers of old used to say. The Arab pagans believed that angels were the daughters of Allah(SWT) Surah Al-'An'am, Verse 100. "And they set up the jinn associates with Allah, while He created them, and they falsely attributed to Him sons and daughters without knowledge, Glory is to Him, and highly Exalted is He above what they ascribe (to Him)." It is understood from some of the Islamic narrations that 'begets,' in verse under discussion, has a broader meaning. It negates any material and delicate things emerging from Him(SWT), or He(SWT), the Sacred Essence, emerging from any material and delicate thing. Similar to a living creature coming out from another one, or a plant from the earth, water from a spring, fruits from trees, nor the like, emitting delicate things from their sources, such as vision from the eye, hearing from the ears, smelling from the nose, tasting from the mouth, speech from the tongue, knowledge, and understanding from the heart (insight and soul), and particles of fire from stone..." 17 Allah has no parents and children; it is because He is aloof from the material's qualities. 17.Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol, 3, p. 224, and Majma'-al-Bayan, vol. 10, p. 566
