An input device is anything that involves the person inputting some form of information or data into the computer. An output device is a device that outputs information/data to the user. An example of an input device is a keyboard. An example of an output device is speakers.

Devices like printers, webcams, scanners etc will all require their own drivers or software to function properly or so you can take advantage of all the features.
