Diffrence between primaries and caucusses

Primaries are elections held to select a party's candidate for the general elections; elections used to help get the number of candidates down to a smaller amount. Caucuses are associations of members of Congress based on party, interest, or social group, such as gender or race; basically just groups of members of Congress that form based on likes to help get bills passed.

how the election of the President / Vice President has changed since (1832-today)

The electoral college decides who will be president; they may or may not take into account who the people have preferred. The vice president is decided by the electoral college as well as the running mate for the president; the national convention announces who it is though.

What is the difference between nomination process and general elections?

The general election is a regularly scheduled election involving most districts in the nation or state, in which voters select officeholders; first tuesday of November during even-numbered years and every four years during the presidential election. The general election is held during the nomination process. The process contains many smaller elections to determine, first, who should be in the general elections, then, who will be in the primary elections. This process also contains the national convention(announce the vp before the primaries) and electoral college casting votes; congress will certify the election and announce the president and vice president.

Todays nomination process

The year of the election, January through July is primaries done in different states. The National Convention happens in August. The popular vote happens in November and then the electoral college casts their ballots and votes in December. January of the following year, Congress certifies the election and the president gives his oath to begin his term.

Voters actually just rule out a few candidates so that the general election will have a smaller list of the candidates that they actually want in office.
