Angle Relationships Vocabulary
Linear pair
A pair of adjacent angles whose sum equals 180 degrees.
Vertical angles
A pair of opposite congruent angles formed by intersecting lines
Exterior angle
In a triangle, the angle formed by one side of a triangle and the extension of another side.
Same side interior angles
The two angles that are inside (interior) the parallel lines and are on the same side of the transversal Are SUPPLEMENTARY (add up to 180 degrees).
Same side exterior angles
The two angles that are outside (exterior) the parallel lines and are on the same side of the transversal Are SUPPLEMENTARY (add up to 180 degrees).
Similar triangles
Triangles that have the same angle measures but different side lengths. Solve by setting up a proportion.
Supplementary angles
Two angles whose sum is 180 degrees
Complementary angles
Two angles whose sum is 90 degrees
Transversal
a line that intersects two or more lines
alternate interior angles
angles that lay inside the parallel lines and are on opposite sides of the transversal. They are congruent.
Parallel lines
lines in the same plane that never intersect
Remote interior angles
the two nonadjacent interior angles corresponding to each exterior angle of a triangle
Congruent angles
two angles that have the same measure
Corresponding angles
Angles in the relative location (same place) on different lines.
Alternate exterior Angles
Angles that lay outside the parallel lines and are on opposite sides of the transversal; They are congruent.
