As there has been an increase in immigration the progressive side wants to see them become more equal while conservatives want to see how to withhold the increase in the immigration
How could the US increase social capital?
Bringing people together in volunteer groups; create bonds with people who share the same beliefs; more deliberation where people or elected official get together and discuss public matters.
Is Liberalism or Conservatism more effective in today's world?
Conservatism could be more effective because it works to protect and preserve the foundation of our country, but liberalism could be more effective because it works to focus on everyone working together without judgement
How are Liberalism and Conservatism different?
Conservatism supports the social support groups in the beginning to get people off on the right foot and liberalism supports people long term. The meaning of liberty also differs between the two ideologies

Immigration allows other races, cultures, and beliefs to influence the American political system.

It can decrease social capital due to the differences between each culture so people aren't cooperating with others.
How does diversity increase social capital?
It can increase social capital because those with different backgrounds learn from each other and may share similar values.
Explain the effects of low social capital on our political system.
It makes us less cooperative and makes it harder to listen to each others views
Describe how technology affects social capital.
People focus less on each others' personal connections because simpler ways of communication are present

Liberalism's major beliefs are in change, social equality, and more government regulation with regards to the economy and social welfare. Conservatism's major beliefs are in supporting more of a traditional approach to society. They believe in smaller government (less gov't regulation) and are less prone to change.
Is ethnocentrism the same things as racism?
No; ethnocentrism makes you believe your ethnic group is superior. Racism is the belief that your race is superior to others

Organizational, External, Internal, and Personality

Research shows that race can often determine someone's SES
Explain the connection between trust and democracy.
The population must have trust in the government and have political efficacy so more people participate in the government and vote for issues

The population of the minorities is rising and therefore the democratic party will likely gain more votes

The populations of minorities are increasing, the population of white people is decreasing, and the population of black people is staying relatively stable

They are the backbone of the American Dream; people who come to America for the American Dream are in search of these characteristics
