The French were late to settle because of the foreign wars so they started their expansion in 1608. Samuel de Champlain helped the French in the Ohio Valley and mostly settled in Canada, but Iroquois hampered their settlement in Ohio Valley. Unlike the British colonies New France grew at a slow rate and based most of their income on fur trading.

Explain how Britain's colonists became embroiled in the home country's wars with France.

The King William's and Queen Anne's War, even though in Europe, had the colonists involved. Even though colonists needed it, neither the British or French wanted to send troops to help the colonies. The colonists decided instead to use their efficient guerrilla war tactics and get help from surrounding Indian tribes.

Explain what caused the great contest for North America between Britain and France, and why Britain won.

They wanted dominance in colonial power and the resources that they had in North America, thus increasing their nation's wealth. Britain won because of their navy setup across the Atlantic which didn't allow the French to send military reinforcements and supplies.
