Why is it important for us to understand these steps? Please describe the difficulties a person will face as they progress in the steps. (Adam/Eve, Achan, Moses, David)
It is important for us to understand these steps, so that we can know what will happen when it comes to the point in our career where we have to choose how we will handle these decisions. Once you get farther in each step of unethical behavior it gets harder to want to turn away as one further pleases their fleshly desire. Within the bible, there are many examples of this. Eve for example took the opportunity to eat the forbidden fruit, she rationalized her decision and even convinced Adam to sin as well. From here, both Adam and Eve were aware of their nakedness and cursed. These actions would go on to have long-standing consequences. Another example is in fact Achan as he saw the opportunity to take the goods that God had told them not to take, he coveted/rationalized his decision, he then took the items and finally hid them. Achan's decision cost the lives of over 30 Israelites and his family. It becomes much more difficult to turn from doing the wrong thing. Another example is when Rebecca where she helped deceive her husband and steal away her other son's birthright. She rationalized her unethical decision. (Moses, David)
