CHAPT 16 ISTM
Platform as a Service (PaaS)
- a Cloud provider supplies a computer platform (like Windows) through the Internet - develops applications & apps - framework they can build upon to develop or customize applications ex: Amazon's Elastic Beanstalk, Force.com, and Google's App Engine.
Businesses are thinking about...
public clouds (everyone can access - workday), private clouds (Gov, financial institutions), and Hybrid clouds (combos of both)
Hybrid Cloud
- combine public and private clouds - use the public cloud for high-volume, lower-security needs such as web-based email, and the private cloud (or other on-premises infrastructure) for sensitive, business-critical operations like financial reporting.
Software as a Service (SaaS)
- sometimes called " On-Demand" software is when the CSP installs and operates application software in the Cloud that the Cloud user can use. EX: SalesForce, Workday, Apache OpenOffice - is the largest cloud market
Cloud Service Provider (CSP)
A company that provides cloud computing services. ex: Google, Microsoft, or DropBox
internal hard drive
A hard drive that resides within the computer's system unit and that usually holds all permanently stored programs and data. good speed, storage, and file management but has to be backedup on a regular basis
How many rights are you giving away in TOS?
ALL of them
AWS
Amazon Web Services is the largest cloud computing service provider in the US Canvas under AWS
Cloud Drive Advantages
Automatic back up and access from any internet enabled computer
pay as you go model
Customers pay per hour, per week, per month, etc. for IaaS services
Storage as a Service (StaaS)
Storing or renting space from a CSP •provide storage much more cost-effectively than a business can itself. - expands the business bandwidth (ability to hold amounts of data) EX: Dropbox, GooglePhotos
CSP's, like Amazon, require their Cloud customers to agree with their
Terms of Service (TOS) before they are willing to let you port your data and information to their Cloud.
iDrives
The original name of the Cloud, off-site file storage
Apache's OpenOffice
an open-source business software suite that has a word processor "Writer" like Microsoft Word, a spreadsheet "Calc" like Excel, presentation software "Impress" like PowerPoint, a database "Base" like Access, and a graphics editor called "draw" its free!
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
delivers hardware networking capabilities, including the use of servers, networking, and storage, over the cloud using a pay-per-use revenue model They do everything EX: Microsoft Azure or Google Compute Engine Amazon Web Service !!
Data as a Service (DaaS)
facilitates the accessibility of business-critical data in a timely, secure, and affordable manner to compare to others - in Workday
Cloud Drive Disadvantages
not available without internet
Private Cloud
one in which the services and infrastructure are maintained on a private network EX: Government, financial institutions
Public clouds
owned and operated by third-party cloud service providers, which deliver their computing resources, like servers and storage, over the Internet. EX: Workday, Gmail
AWS outage is an example of
showing how broad the jobs of a cloud system is
Downdetector
tracks website outages - showed AWS user that it was the tech and not him in AWS outage example
The cloud
using computer resources like a hard drive or software that exists on another computer typically connected by the Internet
Does Amazon's TOS mean someone beside you can see the contents of your Cloud Drive?
yes
