Many do not check email as often though, and can let email "pile up" unless they are expecting information. How does this translate to the job, and what expectations might they consider at work? New technology, especially as it relates to information, also poses an increasingly important challenge for managers. Communication advances such as smartphones and other wireless communication networks have made it easier than ever for managers to communicate with one another. At the same time, these innovations have increased the pace of work for managers, cut into their time for thoughtful contemplation of decisions, and increased the amount of information they must process. As firms come to depend more and more on communication technologies, they also become more vulnerable.
