How to identify or clarify values
-Generate a list of values, Rate the list of values, use indirect means(reflect on what you admire or what yourspend your time/money on), strive for person-organization fit, avoid materialistic values which don't satisfy
Benefits of confronting the shadow side
-breaks the hold on undesirable characteristics -provides a clear sense of self

Ambition (seeking culturally defined success) Avoidance due to doubts
why is a conversation about values possible?
Because somewhere we do have common grounds
Inner Life
Bring the whole person to work
Moral Identity (part of component #5 Creating a moral identity)
Define self in terms of ethical commitments and values (to betray ethical commitments is to betray the self)
Stories (Narratives)
Help us make sense of the world, promote desired behavior, we live up to the organizational stories we share with others. -The best stories are vivid(introduce characters we care about) and Vexing (place characters in difficult ethical situations)

There are universal values, we have a list of these values: respect, honesty, fairness, and compassion. When we have a values conflict, see if the conflicted value is close to the main common values
Why is workplace spirituality important?
Work tends to be objective, and we as humans are subjective. Work is also a big part of your life and community as which you participate in. Lastly, you want to be happy in that area

is embarrassing, socially unacceptable & dangerous. Things tend to come out worse if we are tired, stressed, etc. and we need to recognize this is who we are
