Chapter 30: Short Answer Questions
Describe the pulmonary and systemic circulation pathways.
Pulmonary occurs through heart and the lungs; systemic occurs between the heart and the rest of the body (except the lungs).
What structures make the heart an efficient pump?
The right and left atrium, and the right and left ventricles which have valves to control the flow of blood. The blood goes through the 1) right atrium to the 2) right ventricle to the 3) left atrium to the 4) left ventricle.
How would a high fever affect a person's heart and breathing rates?
To maintain homeostasis, the heart and breathing rates would increase to get rid of the excess heat.
Explain how leaky heart valves can damage the heart.
Leaky heart valves force the heart to work harder to push blood through the heart, over time this can result in an enlarged heart, shortness of breath, tiredness and a cough.
