(3) The Judge continually evaluates his athletes instead of instructing them. (4) With Coach Finkle you are never sure what she will say. (5) Coach Glib is the most talkative person you ever met, gives instructions constantly during practice. (6) Coach Stone never shows emotion. (7) The Professor is unable to explain anything at a level understandable to his players. (8) Coach Skinner just doesn't seem to understand how the principles of reinforcement work.

Name/describe the 3 "dimensions" of communication

(1) communication includes not only sending messages but also receiving them. EX> Generally coaches are known much more for their oratorical skills than for their listening skills. (2) communication consists of verbal and nonverbal messages. EX> Gestures of hostility, facial expressions of joy, movements of intimidation, and acts of kindness. (3) communication has two parts: content and emotion. EX> Content is the substance of the message, and emotion is how you feel about it. Content is expressed verbally, emotion nonverbally.

What are the components of team culture and how does a coach develop and nurture team culture?

is the way things are done on a team-its the social architecture that nurtures the team psyche. a healthy team culture creates a climate for success.

How can you become more self-aware?

by knowing who you are before you can help your athletes know who they are. When you are at peace with yourself, you can help your athletes to be at peace with themselves.

Why is character education an essential duty of coaches?

coaches have an influence on their players. they remind players that they could work harder, encouraged your talents, demanded that you behave responsibly, and treat you with respect while insisting that you be respectful.

How does the communication style of a cooperative style coach differ from the communication style of a command or submissive style coach?

communication style coach communicate in a straightforward, positive, and confident way and allow and encourage others to do the same. command style coaches communicate in an aggressive way by ordering athletes to do whatever he or she wants. submissive style coaches seldom express their own viewpoints and will tend to express agreement.

is about who we are and what we stand for. Character is what you are in the dark.

is good character when participating in sports. its about respect for opponents, officials, teammates, coaches, and especially for the game itself.

playing sport. establishing routines and rewarding good character.

to help make difficult decisions, to reach a goal, and coach more successfully.

you need to consider not only your objectives for coaching and those of your sport program but also what you personally want from coaching.
