Spiral fracture:

A spiral fracture is a bone fracture occurring when a rotating force is applied along the axis of a bone. The bone break is similar to twisting open a pillsbury doughboy twist container. It creates a spiral shape.

Closed or simple fracture:

A closed fracture is also called a simple fracture. In a closed fracture, the broken bone doesn't break your skin.

Comminuted fracture:

A comminuted fracture is a break or splinter of the bone into more than two fragments. It is splintered or crushed into multiple pieces.

Open or compound fracture:

An open fracture, also called a compound fracture, is a fracture in which there is an open wound or break in the skin near the site of the broken bone.

Compression fracture:

Broken bone produced when the bones are pressed together.

Oblique fracture:

The break is at a diagonal across the bone, creating two bone fragments with sharp points. When long bones are broken on an angle, they often separate into two parts that do not align and have rough, uneven edges. This fracture can make it difficult to put the bone back together.

Transverse fracture:

The break is straight across the bone at a right angle to the length of the bone.
