It requires you to think for yourself when a large amount of information or opinions are presented. When one cannot think critically they are unable to make important decisions regarding their education or life.

There are many strategies for listening critically during a lecture. One big one is be ready for a message, if you are looking for a message you will be able to notice information the text does not explicitly cover, and you will be able to pay much closer attention to what is happening. Another is repeat information mentally, by making an effort to retain everything presented you are more likely to. Another big concept is keeping an open mind, you will be presented with a large amount of information, and you might not completely agree with everything but you should still be respectful and fully listen so you can continue to create your own viewpoints.
