You should also compare notes with another student to see if they have anything that you did not catch in class or see something in a way you did not think of. Lastly, you should do any homework that was assigned.

There are many strategies for listening critically during a lecture. One big one is be ready for a message, if you are looking for a message you will be able to notice information the text does not explicitly cover, and you will be able to pay much closer attention to what is happening. Another is repeat information mentally, by making an effort to retain everything presented you are more likely to. Another big concept is keeping an open mind, you will be presented with a large amount of information, and you might not completely agree with everything but you should still be respectful and fully listen so you can continue to create your own viewpoints.
