two mesangial cells?

1.extra glomerular mesangial cells which are located at the vascular pole 2.intra glomerular mesangial cells which are located in the renal corpuscle.

function of the basal lamina?

The basal lamina restricts the movement of particles usually proteins, usually proteins >70,000 daltons, from moving into the urinary space

urinary pole?

continuous with the lumen of the proximal convoluted tubule.

functions of mesangial cells?

also thought to be contractile and play a role in controlling blood flow as well as providing structural support.

basal lamina?

composed of Lamina Rara Interna(adjacent to fenestrated capillary endothelium), lamina rara externa(adjacent to podocytes), lamina densa which is sandwiches between the two.

Bowman's capsule structure?

consists of an - inner visceral layer - in intimate contact with capillaries of glomerulus and its composed of modified cells called podocytes. -a parietal layer - which is composed of simple squamous epithelial cells.

glomerular filtrate?

enters the bowman's space through a complex filtration barrier composed of fenestrated capillary endothelium, a basal lamina and podocytes

tissue surrounding capillaries in corpuscle?

normal connective tissue which regularly surrounds capillaries is replaced by specialised Mesangial cells.

Main Structure

oval structure: comprises tuft of capillaries invaginated into cup like proximal end of nephron known as bowman's capsule.

the space between the two layers of the bowman's capsule?

space is called the urinary space or bowman's pace.

podocytes?

specialised for filtration and have fine finger like projection called pedicles. they extend and wrap around the capillary loops. inter digitation between the pedicles forms filtration slits which are covered by a filtration slit membrane.

vascular pole?

the area where the afferent and efferent arterioles enter and leave the renal corpuscle

intra-glomerular mesangial cells?

thought to be phagocytic and function to cleanse the basal lamina of accumulated material.
