"Common Sense" was a pamphlet that explained in plain language the reasons for seeking Independence. Paine argued that there was nothing to fear and much to gain from independence. These ideas made sense to Americans and began to spread from colony to colony, and the American colonies declared they were free and independent.

How was the Continental Army formed?
During the Battle of Bunker Hill, the Second Continental Congress was meeting in Philadelphia. The delegates felt a sense of unity since Massachusetts was already at war. Congress took control of the forces outside of Boston and created the Continental Army with George Washington as commander-in-chief.
Why did the American colonies have a hard time deciding to separate from Britain/gain Independence?
No other colony had ever separated from its parent country. Americans feared they might be seized by other nations without Britain's protection. They feared cutting all ties to the King, because loyalty to the King gave them feeling of safety/belonging.

Why was the British victory at Bunker Hill "too dearly bought?"
This Battle of Bunker Hill occurred in June 1775, when the Patriots put cannon's on Breed's Hill instead of Bunker Hill because it was closer to Boston. When the British troops advanced up the hill, Patriots could easily identify them by fancy uniform, and fired upon them causing them to retreat several times. The British eventually captured Bunker and Breed hill but lost many soldiers and officers so this was a costly victory for them because of the huge loss of lives.
